wtf, CNN.com

^^^^^ what the hell is wrong with this country

HI DERE, Thursday, 1 May 2008 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

Hahaha, you beat me to linking to that thread. (Dan's question U+K)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 1 May 2008 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

i am not really a fan of the slip on van look but i do like those colors!

tehresa, Thursday, 1 May 2008 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

sara good luck on your test, too! here is some motivation: remember that paper i decided to phone in a while back? A!! so, i feel that we can all achieve good grades with minimal effort. you can dooo itt!!!

tehresa, Thursday, 1 May 2008 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa, thank you so much for the good luck! I feel like I need it on this area. When we start edging out of biology and into chemistry and physics, I am leaving my comfort zone.

I feel like saying I am not a fan of that type of shoe is piling on at this point. Sorry Nick!

re: the pelican in the tree story: ?????!!!!! Is it *that* slow a news day?

Sara R-C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

never underestimate the power of the pelican.

tehresa, Thursday, 1 May 2008 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

nick, that shoe is for wearing on a boat, a special hipster kind of boat, which I'm not sure if that makes the boat and its crew more or less douchey than average, but at any rate it seems out of character for a guy who got drunk and asked me for career advice, since I can't afford a boat either. nb mostly because I refuse to move the fuck away from DC and prefer expensive computers and loudspeakers to expensive means of getting about in the water. But I hope you understand my distaste for its leisurely affectations nonetheless. otoh, it's your fucking feet, fuck 'em.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 1 May 2008 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

How do you fuck your own feet (without wrenching your back)?

HI DERE, Thursday, 1 May 2008 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

self-abuse yoga

El Tomboto, Thursday, 1 May 2008 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

Dan, I'm surprised you haven't already imagined how that might work, and illuminated us ;-).

suzy, Thursday, 1 May 2008 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

suzy really does know Dan well.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

I have a great deal of respect for Tom's judgement (drunken or otherwise) and it seems to comport with the general itr consensus on those shoes. I am not really one for boats or hipsters so I shall therefore look elswhere for footwear that meets my needs. I thank you all.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 1 May 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

You should go shoe shopping with RR. I feel sure she would be the perfect shoe style consultant (because isn't that one of her jobs - selling shoes - right now)? Plus you could take Tom along for snarky commentary.

This would, of course, be easier if you were not all three on separate continents.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

i like those shoes but couldn't wear them myself because shit don't have any support. brown shoes forever. on another thread a poster made a good point the other day:

Vans seem to have a small anus built into the soles.

-- Savannah Smiles, Wednesday, April 23, 2008

jergïns, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

Sara's idea is Uh-mazing! I have already invited myself to RR's californian wedding so get Tombot to come along and it could happen. Although shoe-shopping would probably just feel like a waste of good drinking time.

I also think a Tombot one of these http://images.forbiddenplanet.com/image/detail/1129496d.jpg would be awesome.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

tempted to p hotoshop it to make it so. am i really that bored this evening?

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

Not to put too fine a point on it
Say I'm the only bee in your bonnet
Make a little anus in your sole.

remy bean, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

Obviously you could combine your drinking with your shoe shopping, although "shoe store hopping" does lack something when you suggest it as an activity...

lolol remy

Sara R-C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

unrelatedly: i watched 'golden compass' in 20 minutes last night, during the commercial breaks of top chef. what a crapper of a movie.

remy bean, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:31 (eighteen years ago)

It looked gorgeous but fell so completely flat.

HI DERE, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:35 (eighteen years ago)

every point in it seemed necessary (but joyless) in getting to the next point, which seemed necessary (but joyless) in getting to the next point, which ... ended the film.

It was really more a filmed adaptation than a movie in its own right, though - yeah - it looked really amazing.

remy bean, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, it was disappointing. It seemed like the movie was too dumbed down, tried too hard to not be offensive (for all the good it did them), and then the ending was just not right. (sorry, for the integrity of the story, that kid has to be separated from his daemon and die).

Sara R-C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

yes. also i found it incredibly difficult to follow the action in the endless battle against the inuit, where helpful force after helpful force appeared willy-nilly and without reasonable expectation and repeatedly saved lyra and the little funny-looking boy.

remy bean, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

I fucking hate Stewie

El Tomboto, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

hay guize it's gala time!

tehresa, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

i like those shoes

John Justen, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

plus to fans of japanese animation your feet would appear to be traveling much faster than you actually are

John Justen, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

gayla

jergïns, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

who is stewie?

John Justen, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:07 (eighteen years ago)

the fourth of Uncle Scrooge's nephews

remy bean, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

Ahem, Tom, the point was not Stewie (who i also am a hater of) but to have a portable device that makes El Tombot-esque jibes at the push of a button.

(stewie being the family guy character in the picture posted above)

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:10 (eighteen years ago)

ahhhhhh moderator no images foils me once again

HI DERE, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

I would be very entertained to see John wearing those shoes.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

I don't care, I hate stewie.
But go ahead, replace me with a noisy toy, see if I care.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

i'd be more entertained to see tom in that hat

remy bean, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

That sounds like the beginning of the perfect ITR fasion show.

HI DERE, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

remy bean, Thursday, 1 May 2008 20:48 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, I'm off to go eat and then take a test and then start all over with new information, even though my brain is full.

Good evenings, all!

Rubyredd, Thursday, 1 May 2008 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

it got sent to my parents' place so i asked my mum to take a photo of it. i have a somewhat weird relationship with my mother, who is a little crazy to say the least, but sometimes she completely surprises me, eg. this is the email she sent with the degree photos:
What neat feeling I had when I opened up the envelope and saw your certificate. It brought tears to my eyes. I know that you graduated but it isnt reality until I saw the certificate. I am so really really proud of my girl.

i'm pretty sure that's the first time my mum has ever said she's proud of me.

Rubyredd, Thursday, 1 May 2008 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

aww. that's so nice. and you are totally deserving of certificates and kind words. and maybe a back that is not broek.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 1 May 2008 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

Mom message = :-)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 1 May 2008 21:14 (eighteen years ago)
