WITH YOU BOTH ON THIS

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 03:44 (eighteen years ago)

I seriously need to start going back to school or doing something organized beyond the office because just work + home + work + home is not cutting it

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 03:46 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that seemed like a good idea to me when I decided to go back to school, too.

Right now I am questioning my own sanity for doing it, though.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 03:53 (eighteen years ago)

tom get a hobby or something, but school is, wow rough. esp after you've been out for years. all i dream about now is being able to go to work and come home and have my evenings again.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 03:55 (eighteen years ago)

We have to do this presentation, 15-20 minutes for TWO POINTS. My group's topic is "diabetes mellitus, type one." I was so punchy at class tonight that I suggested that perhaps, since "creativity" is one of the parameters for the grade, I should do a diabetes-related strip tease. (Seriously, for two points... why even bother?)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 03:58 (eighteen years ago)

i had something similar for the print culture class i did: we had these weekly group blog assignments where we had up to 20 pages of reading to do, plus research, and then a bunch of questions to answer, all for 1.5% of our final grade.

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, it would make somewhat more sense if it was in the context of a weekly assignment... but the whole thing just seems bizarre and disproportionate at this point. All I can think is that if I show them my stretch marks, they'll think twice about ever giving this assignment to another class!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 04:07 (eighteen years ago)

You will be my eternal hero if you actually do a diabetes strip tease.

HI DERE, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 04:20 (eighteen years ago)

diabetes strip tease

HI DERE, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 04:21 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha, you know the worst part is that in the car on the way home I was trying to figure out how to make a strip tease fit into the subject matter. I suspect this is the result of 3+ hours of lecture affecting me.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

tom get a hobby or something

Never hurts, that approach.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

k yeah nowhere near done w/ all this reading but can't keep eyes open.

sara, your diabeetus striptease is gonna be awesome.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

I'm no good at structuring my free time is the issue with hobbies

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:09 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, the problem w/ all that is that when you go to school it's not about structuring free time anymore. they own your soul. there is no free time. there is no win.

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:21 (eighteen years ago)

They even own your strip teases. It is very sad.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:36 (eighteen years ago)

there oughtta be a law!

tehresa, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:37 (eighteen years ago)

I would teach Tom to crochet, I think, as a hobby. Crocheting is nice because it is easy to do and easy to un-do. Also very warm if you are making a big blanket. AND it can be social (talking and stitching = very easy to combine).

Downside: might make you seem like a menopausal housewife.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:38 (eighteen years ago)

listen, I don't want another hobby, I want some more responsibility besides 1. trying not to get hit by vehicles 2. feeding a cat 3. showing up on time 5 days out of 7

mainly because unless somebody else is expecting more from me than that I'm a complete waste of space for way too much of the week
I think I just went from dealing with too little free time/me time to dealing with ALL OF IT AT ONCE so I'm still very much not used to it and can't get a grip

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:46 (eighteen years ago)

I get what you are saying - I am just feeling the weight of the other side of that equation so heavily that it is hard to think of a productive suggestion.

fwiw, I'm a lot happier being in school than not being in school. I like the brain stimulation and the social aspect, and even feeling annoyed with unreasonable assignments (because, as a group, our cohort is all in it together). I really worry that having an actual job will not be the same; it's been so long that I really don't remember!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:50 (eighteen years ago)

You shd get into road cycling, Tom :D

wilter, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:50 (eighteen years ago)

So I hereby endorse your application to medical school/law school/pet grooming school/whatever else.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

Or marathon running. (It seems to be a thing.)

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

Or become a professionally accredited accountant :D

wilter, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

:(

wilter, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:51 (eighteen years ago)

btw, nursing school is mostly women and maybe half of our class of 26 is single - I imagine this is true in other places as well. Just sayin' - you could meet new and interesting women AND learn to suction tracheostomies!

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:52 (eighteen years ago)

I think I'd rather run a marathon than become an accountant. And I don't enjoy running.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:53 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know how you found school the first time round, but tombot you seem like school would really suit you now - you'd probably have the self discipline to get a lot out of it. what kind of area would you be looking at getting into?

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:57 (eighteen years ago)

a second master's degree, this one in public policy
I have until november to apply for the spinrg semester so no worries, I just have to make it through the summer without losing my mind

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 05:58 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 06:18 (eighteen years ago)

I totally think you should, too, Tom.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 06:21 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 29 April 2008 07:19 (eighteen years ago)

oh I'm planning on going part time during the day before I have to go to work, I wouldn't even bring it up if my employer didn't provide a partial tuition reimbursement program
