tehresa, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

dead hickory tree still leaning against other living hickory tree despite inclement weather last night. with any luck we get a storm with a little more chutzpah this evening and it comes the rest of the way down so I can cut it up into chimney-size bits

El Tomboto, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

I watched Superbad! First half hour - kinda disappointing. As soon as the police arrive - omg most amazing film ever.

I had the exact opposite reaction to that film. The police scenes dragged the whole thing down for me.

dell, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

tehresa wins for best day's activity

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

but I also just saw an indigo bunting, a carolina chickadee, a buzzard, a big crow, and male and female goldfinches all with the space of thirty minutes, not to mention the hummingbirds and the wild turkeys that are always hanging around plus the clean-living country squirrels you only get in the woods

El Tomboto, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

and by big crow I mean fuckoff huge deep black whoa is that a crow sized crow

El Tomboto, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

and I forgot what cop cars and ambulances sound like

El Tomboto, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:25 (eighteen years ago)

I bet the indigo bunting was gorgeous! I've never seen one. ;_;

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

Honestly, I get excited if I catch sight of a cardinal or a bluejay.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:27 (eighteen years ago)

it's kiddie day at the fire station, and the crew just took the fire engine round the block, lights and sirens blaring.

does anyone else think that's odd?

lxy, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:32 (eighteen years ago)

it's maybe a little odd, but one of my most vivid memories from "nursery school"/preschool days is from when we visited the local fire station and got to wear plastic fire hats and see the funny pole that they slide down and stuff

dell, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

it was fun

dell, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, that seems a bit odd...

Here they let the kids hold the firehose as it douses the driveway of the fire engine house. Pretty fun for the kids.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

I had the worst best time at a birthday party last night. I have a reason for saying that.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

you found the marble in the oatmeal! xpost

John Justen, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:51 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, I'm so sorry - that's kind of shocking. What an evening. It is horrible to hear of the death of someone you knew - especially when you have lost touch.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 22:54 (eighteen years ago)

that is always the worst.
i learned that a girl from undergrad died because facebook home page told me that 8 of my friends had joined a memorial group for her. (we weren't friends, but i knew her. always a little shocking.)

tehresa, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

It makes me think of the night I got the call from a friend that the guy I dated my first year on college had died. I knew he had cancer and I knew it was terminal; I just didn't find time to call.

I really hope that doesn't make me sound cold-hearted.

Anyway, even if you know it's coming, it's still shocking.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

I really hope that doesn't make me sound cold-hearted.

No. I've been in parallel scenarios.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:12 (eighteen years ago)

me too :-\

tehresa, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:15 (eighteen years ago)

'morning itr. at work. sigh. bump.

Rubyredd, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

Okay, I'm not cold-hearted (yay?).

Also now sad because too many people die too young.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

RR - HELLO!

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

hello sara! i'm glad the thread title is still magic, since i failed in my duties last night.

Rubyredd, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

No worries, RR. It's MAGIC!

I will be bumping the thread tonight, but not too late since I have SCHOOL tomorrow all day again. So I have to get up at 6 am. ;_;

Anyway, everyone else should go have fun while I read this med surg chapter about genetics...

Sara R-C, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

a few years ago i was catching up with an old friend and referenced a mutual acquaintance of ours-- whereupon i got the "oh, uh...you didn't hear?" face. it turned out the guy had been struck by lightning and died within the past year.

and a year and a half ago i made a joking reference to some other person who I hadn't seen in forever while hanging out with another friend...and got the same face again. it turned out that this person had jumped off of the golden gate bridge.

the one person was in his 20's, the second person in his 30's, so yeah. that's too young to be leaving this world, i think. i'm sorry about your friend, ned. it goes without saying that it completely sucks and is heartbreaking to receive news like that

dell, Saturday, 19 April 2008 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to bump this thread and hope for happier news for all

Sara R-C, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

good work, thanks. looking for a brand new start.

dell, Sunday, 20 April 2008 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

Guess what, I'M STILL AT WORK

HI DERE, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:02 (eighteen years ago)

Rubyredd, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:23 (eighteen years ago)

HI-5, BUDDY

Rubyredd, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:24 (eighteen years ago)

suckers!!!!!!

El Tomboto, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:28 (eighteen years ago)

i'm with tom on this one.

tehresa, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:29 (eighteen years ago)

anyway "emonebriation" and all forms thereof, self-explanatory, as in:

"I was on the internet while I was emonebriated then the next morning I got up to log in and check my flight schedule and was all 'oh fuck me I did NOT turn into that dude who tries to get other people to feel sorry for him over the internet' and deleted my own birthday thread, I hope you don't mind"

El Tomboto, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:31 (eighteen years ago)

oh dude i bet it was awesome! i think i may have already mentioned this, but you are like the spiritual twin of the moderator for the other board me and jordan post to - he's 47 and cynical and grumpy and hilarious and awesome nice dude, but tough as fuck and doesn't put up with ANY shit and is pretty intimidating (even now, a year later, know him better, and am publishing one of his short stories - STILL a little scared of him).

ANYWAY. he got fucked one night - was sick with the flu, took some flu drugs, drank some whisky and got all sentimental - it was AWESOME. he left this super nice comment on jordan's book collecting blog about what a couple of cool ppl we are, and how he was 'honoured' to be referred to as a 'friend' in one of jordan's entries... i got such a shock when i read it! dude is not normally the sentimental type. but always knew it was there... which was the cool thing. so it's nice to see it out of the blue sometimes, altho i understand why you'd want to delete it.

Rubyredd, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:41 (eighteen years ago)

STOICISM DEMANDS CONSISTENCY

funny though how stoicism seems to tolerate a great deal of indignation and/or rage in the service of some imagined principle

El Tomboto, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:45 (eighteen years ago)

anyway I haven't worked this hard in years, it's great, my back and shoulders feel like oak dowels tonight

El Tomboto, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:48 (eighteen years ago)

Tom, I am glad you are enjoying what you are doing! Although "my backa nd shoulders feel like oak dowels" kind of screams GET A MASSAGE NOW to me.

Dan, I hope to hell you have gone home. RR - it must at least be a reasonable time to be at work in NZ?!

(also - HI DELL!)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:54 (eighteen years ago)

i've been here five hours (it's 4pm) and soon i go to the restaurant, probably till around 9.30-10pm

Rubyredd, Sunday, 20 April 2008 03:55 (eighteen years ago)

pops just went to bed while I cracked open another beer

dad: "Time for bed"
me: "I'm not going to church tomorrow, I'm not old enough"

ZING

El Tomboto, Sunday, 20 April 2008 04:01 (eighteen years ago)

i actually think a day of physical labor would be very invigorating right now, after 9 months of classes and offices and 3 hours on the train every day.

tehresa, Sunday, 20 April 2008 04:03 (eighteen years ago)

it totally is!!!

El Tomboto, Sunday, 20 April 2008 04:07 (eighteen years ago)

the flourescence is killing me!

tehresa, Sunday, 20 April 2008 04:08 (eighteen years ago)

today not as much fun as yesterday (pix soon hopefully) but I probably couldn't have done two straight days of lumberjacking at my age. seven years ago when they first built this house and demanded I clear them a vista from the back deck, different story. Now, oof.
