Discussion on the 'ilxors in their forties' thread was focused around the grief and misery that some posters were experiencing/had experienced during that decade. Sarahell opened up a sidebar convo on the 'no boys allowed' thread to interrogate whether there were any gender-centered implications to men's quad-decadal experiences of misery and grief. Some people thought this line of inquiry was in bad taste, to which Sarah responded by going back to the 'ilxors in their forties' thread with hat in hand to offer an apology and clear the air.

At some point during this discussion, Branwell with an N popped in to 'no boys' to offer their opinions. This is the part where things become a little hazy to me because to understand what happened would require reading Branwellian walls of text. But basically Branwell said some insensitive shit and then doubled down by being extremely rude to some of the posters on that thread. Several of the 'no boys allowed' posters expressed their displeasure with Branwell's stubborn refusal to back down.

The whole discussion capped off with Whiney G. Weingarten, a boy, popping into the no boys thread, unbidden; Sarahell offering a hilarious rejoinder; and then pplains delivering an amusing punchline at Whiney's expense. Whiney's and pplains's contributions have been stricken from the record to avoid setting a bad precedent.

Did I get all that right?

between yr 2nd and 3rd paragraphs, the discussion also moved to a dedicated clusterfucking thread in which one poster was frustrated that Branwell was bitching about said poster on twitter in response to the ILX aggravation, Branwell lied that they had not done anything of the sort and in fact NO U, and was countered with screenshots. the tempban happened almost immediately after that, and now meta is continuing.

To be more precise, there were a series of very despairing and distressing posts on the thread from an ILXor, who many people on here personally know and like (myself included), whose wife had died of cancer in the last year.

I feel like had Branwell just said "I didn't realize this was being discussed in another thread, nor was I trying to make light of it - I apologize, we can table this conversation for now", things would have been fine (lol that this EVER would happened but y'know).

but then coming out and trying to couch it as a "I won't back down against the patriarchy who is suppressing our speech" scenario and using words like "himpathy" in response to gyac's posts, suggesting the affected was receiving undue sympathy, and that the conversation should go on impeded, that's where shit got really fucked.

sarahell did the right thing, Branwell continued to step in it.

I think everyone's tolerance for unbridled narcissism is at something of an all time low at the moment.
