The other night, I dreamt that Jason Schmidt was pitching (at this point, only in dreams...) BP to, and get this: SLEATER-KINNEY. Not Matt Kinney, SLEATER-. Poor Corin, didn't even get a swing off.

that's weird because last night i had a weird dream/memory (i'm not sure i was asleep yet) about playing little league. i was on the hill against the brewers (because they wore the blue and yellow hats, not sure who thought this was an appropriate team name for 11 year olds) and drilled this kid teddy andrews right between the shoulder blades. it was more of a memory because i really did drill teddy betwixt the 'blades witha a four seemer.

it's not surprising that i didn't dream of hitting because i was really lousy at the plate.

Matt Kinney pitches for the Brewers!

I can't post any because they're naughty.

When I was 9 years old and a very mediocre pitcher on my Little League team, I was temporarily comforted by a very vivid dream in which I saw my grown-up self pitching for the Kansas City Royals. I was really good in my dream. I was convinced this was a harbinger of great things to come.

Alas, in dreams begin responsibilities, and I shirked mine by refusing to do anything other than suck when I pitched in real life.

A recent one, fairly conventional: I'm in the press box, covering the Series, and Torre needs a pinch-hitter.

briania, Wednesday, 14 April 2004 19:13 (eighteen years ago) link

haha, just saw that Kerry's comment went unnoticed. Kerry's fantasy baseball dreams are coming true apparently, wtf?

I want to dream of playing baseball with Sleater-Kinney. Much better than dreaming that I'm in prison.

I can't recall any baseball dreams right now. I have golf dreams quite often though. Nothing special, just dreams about going out and playing a round of golf.

Ok -- I actually had one of these last night!! I dreamt that Mark Prior was back and healthy and kicking ass in his first start. He had like 15 Ks or something. And then I went and posted a boastful message on the bulletin board of my other fantasy league (I have Prior in that other league; took him with the 1st pick the *day before* they pushed back his likely appearance to mid-May or beyond.)

So yeah, a dream that involved not only baseball, but fantasy baseball and POSTING ON THE INTERNET about it. Yikes.

Fear not gygax! I dreamt that Sabean made some savvy moves last night! All is not lost!

I dreamed Prior hit an inside the park HR in his first game back! I vividly remember watching him round third on TV (oddly enough, the camera angle was one of those old-school top-of-the-stadium-behind-home-plate angles) and thinking he was going to suffer a horrible injury sliding into home. But the throw was off the mark (haha) and he slid in safely. I never have sports dreams, so you know this is portentous.

Did you ever have a dream because of a thread on ILX? Because not long after this thread, I had a baseball dream. I suddenly found myself in center field, not sure where I was or how I got there. I was just standing there kind of dazed. Then this huge guy came hurtling toward me - he was about eight feet tall and weighed 400 pounds. All of a sudden, I realized, "Holy shit! It's Carlos Lee!" And I ran the fuck away from him and hid in the Bullpen Sports Bar because he was so huge.

i had my first ever (to my knowledge) baseball dream last night. i think i was watching tv (or i saw the action from that tv camera angle anyway) and rich harden threw this WICKED curveball to strike some guy out.

that's all. my dreams always suck like that.

LOL @ mattbot's Mark Prior dream.

I am getting ready to leave for Dodger Stadium and I just realized I had an anxiety dream where a high pop-up foul was falling towards me. Everyone in the upper deck and mezzanine was screaming at me to catch the ball. Thankfully, it fell on someone else.

I don't like when the foul balls come at me. Too much pressure.

felicity your subconscious is very kind, that ball couldve crushed yr face if it were crueler

have fun at dodger stadium & say hi to alyssa for me

i know what you mean. i was at a game last year and a hard hit foul ball came at me in the stands - grazed the hand of a dude a few rows infront of me - went over my glove and nailed the pregnant lady behind me in the side. i felt really guilty - like if their kid has epilepsy it will be my fault.

Today I dreamed that last night, one of my fantasy guys went 4-for-5 inc. 3 homers, but I had him on the bench. In my dream I was thinking that if I woke up quick enough, I could go back to yesterday and put him in the day's lineup. But I kept falling asleep.

last night i dreamt that i was in a cactus league game playing third base for the diamondbacks (????). i basically made like five errors -- mostly throwing -- until kirk gibson told me to go play in the outfield instead. when i got out there, there were already three outfielders so i yelled to the dugout 'where do you want me to play?' and gibson yelled back 'i don't care!'

for some reason i never got to bat. i knew i was going to be cut after the game, but happily i woke up before that happened.

the dreams in which i am awesome are a lot better.

I don't remember ever having a baseball dream before in my life, but last night I dreamed Fredi was fired. No explanation, just "Braves Fire Manager" and then I woke up.

I had one last night, and don't remember the details. I was covering the Mets, and Wright was on Skype or something in the clubhouse. (I've never seen Skype used.)

btw the other night i dreamt a great number of impossible things: i was the kansas city royals' fifth outfielder. the royals were managed by joe maddon. and we were playing the yankees in the world series. (you'd think my subconscious would know better than to pit two al teams against each other, but perhaps it was playing a deeper game.)

we were down 3-1 in the series and 16-3 in game five when maddon pulled the third baseman and put me in as an actual fourth outfielder, along the left-field line. as a life-long infielder, i was basically praying that nothing was hit to me -- judging outfield flies is a different thing entirely. somehow, through no impetus of mine, the royals came back to win, 17-16, sending the series back to new york.

and that was it. i dreamed of salvaging a vague sense of honor in a game 5, not winning or anything. also, my subconscious seems to have a thing about superfluous outfielders.

dreamt that i was watching an episode of M*A*S*H and clayton kershaw was playing a wounded soldier. in the dream i was trying to do calculations about kershaw's age and M*A*S*H having ended 40 years ago, but to no avail

same night i dreamt that the ace of my high school team, left-hander d4vid j4g0dzynski, was coming on in relief for, i think, the padres. for some reason they let him bat in the bottom of the inning and he clubbed the first pitch off the netting on the right-field pole

mookieproof, Wednesday, 2 March 2022 23:06 (eight months ago) link

dreamt that i was playing in philadelphia -- for the cardinals, i think, or perhaps the mets. seventh inning and we were up by some ridiculous score like 30-3 and the phillies had committed double-digit errors

i was standing on second -- unclear how i got there; presumably one of the errors -- and the next batter was a dead-pull lefty so the phillies put on a massive shift with the third baseman playing almost up the middle

seeing no one covering or even near third, i instinctively took off and trotted in easily, at which point everyone went nuts about unwritten rules and did i have no respect for the game etc etc

woke up before i got a chance to get one of those chin guard extensions for my helmet for whenever i batted next
