(literal) baseball dreams

I have a lot of sports dreams. Literally. Along with the "I have skipped this class all year and have a final tomorrow" dreams and the "I am naked at school/work which is vaguely bothersome" dreams (I am happily spared the "teeth crumbling/falling out" and "falling from a great height" dreams) I dream about playing sports. Occasionally I dream about playing basketball (usually in the dream I can dunk--there was a brief period in real life when I could, but that was a while ago), more often about hockey--I've dreamed about playing for the Penguins, Leafs, Canadiens and Rangers (who I hate)--but most often about baseball.

Usually it's about hitting. There's nothing quite like the feeling of hitting a baseball really well, and evidently my subconscious wants to recapture this feeling. When I dream of fielding, I'm usually playing third, which is a little strange because I played third infrequently in real life. Maybe because I was least comfortable there?

Last night I dreamt that I was playing third base (maybe for the Red Sox? it wasn't clear) and that Bernie Williams was advancing from second to third on a soft ground ball hit to me. I fielded it up on the grass and was trying to spin around to my right and dive back to the bag to tag him out as he slid into third. Which resulted, at 5:30 this morning, in me flinging myself out of bed onto the floor and freaking the shit out of my girlfriend.

I haven't told her about the time I dreamt I was making a big Dutch Rennert strikeout call and punched the wall next to my bed.

Anyone else have this happen? Is a baseball bat sometimes just a baseball bat?
