In my country of Norway, the premier clubs know that group’s of guys in the ages of 20-45 will definetly splash bundles of cash on matchdays, more so than families do. Beers are not allowed at the venues, so, before you go to the footballgame (soccer) you drink a lot at the pub, and get quite vulgar at the stands in the stadium. It’s impossible to avoid vulgarism from the stands that aims to reach the players or the referee, but they are mostly humouros. Aggressive swearing accurs, but it’s because men put on a footballface, and leave their metrosexualism at home before they enter the match. Pardon my English.

When I was in London, all the subway ads for stand-up comedians really drove home the difference between American comedy and British comedy. In America, when a comedian releases an hourlong standup special, it gets a real terse name like "Hilarious" or "Brainfarts" or if it's an alt-comic, something self-aware and still short like "Some Jokes." In Britain they all have these pointlessly long names like "I Would Be Right Tickled To Jump Out This Telly And Give You A Big Kiss On The Ol' Smackers, Mate"

Fraternization is "turning people into brothers" - conducting social relations with people who are actually unrelated and/or of a different class (especially those with whom one works) as though they were siblings, family members, personal friends or lovers.

In many institutional contexts (such as militaries, diplomatic corps, parliaments, prisons, schools, sports teams, and corporations) this kind of relation transgresses legal, moral or professional norms forbidding certain categories of social contact across socially or legally-defined classes. The term often therefore tends to connote impropriety, unprofessionalism or unethical behavior.

For example, "fraternization with the enemy" refers to associations with members of enemy groups and suggests a serious conflict of interest, if not the possibility of treason; while "fraternization with civilians" typically suggests transgression of norms forbidding non-civilians and civilians to form close nonprofessional relationships (e.g., romantically), and "fraternization of officers with enlisted personnel" or "seniors with their juniors" (the usual referent of 'fraternization' in a military context) describes associations which are implied to be irregular, unprofessional, improper or imprudent in ways that negatively affect the members and goals of the organization.

It is easy to become involved in an unprofessional relationship. It has happened here at our own base, as well as bases at deployed locations. Many times people have the mentality that it is okay for an officer and an enlisted member to be involved as long as no one finds out, or because they are in different squadrons or different chains of command.

That is not the case. To think that way not only brings your integrity into question, but it also degrades mission effectiveness.

Another question to ask is what happens when someone does find out? The consequences are definitely not worth the risk.

A professional military relationship is one that promotes an effective operation in the Air Force. All members of the Air Force are expected to maintain professional relationships both on and off duty. An unprofessional relationship degrades mission effectiveness, morale, good order and discipline and unit cohesion.

A relationship can be unprofessional both on and off duty when it produces the appearance of favoritism or the misuse of office and position for personal interests. Unprofessional relationships are discussed in detail in Air Force Instruction 36-2909, Professional and Unprofessional Relationships.

They can exist between officers, between enlisted members, between officers and enlisted members, and between military personnel and civilian employees or civilian contractor personnel.

An unprofessional relationship between an officer and an enlisted member is different and is recognized as fraternization under Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. This does not even take into consideration Air Education and Training Command specific limitations that apply.

The Manual for Courts-Martial states that not all relationships between an officer and enlisted member are considered fraternization.

Some factors to be considered include whether the conduct has compromised the chain of command, resulted in the appearance of partiality or otherwise undermined good order, discipline, authority or morale. Military custom recognizes that officers will not form personal relationships with enlisted members on terms of military equality, whether on or off-duty.

Officers are specifically prohibited from gambling with enlisted members, becoming indebted to an enlisted member and engaging in sexual relations or dating enlisted members. Additionally, officers can be punished under the UCMJ for fraternization; the maximum punishment includes dismissal, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and confinement for two years.

Although enlisted members cannot be punished under Article 134, they can be punished for being in an unprofessional relationship under Article 92.

Enlisted members may also engage in an unprofessional relationship by developing a personal relationship with their subordinates. This is unacceptable because it promotes the appearance of favoritism. Furthermore, the ability of senior members to influence assignments, promotion recommendations, awards and decorations can place the senior and junior member in vulnerable positions.

Supervisors need to know where to draw the line when it comes to socializing with their subordinates.

The mere fact that maintaining professional relationships may be more difficult under certain circumstances, such as being at a deployed location, does not relieve a member from their responsibility to maintain Air Force standards. All Air Force members, both active duty and civilians, must adhere to the standards and maintain professional relationships on and off duty to ensure good order and discipline in the work place - anything less is a violation of the Air Force core values.

Discussion is encouraged so that the student can engage actively in the philosophical examination of problems. Various fields of the arts and sciences raise philosophical questions which are often not given thorough attention in those particular disciplines. In the informed consideration of such questions, the student acquires a broader and deeper understanding of the major areas of intellectual endeavor. In this way, philosophical comprehension helps to unify a student’s education. Philosophic investigation also has an intrinsic interest and value.

According to everyday folk psychology, our deliberate goals and intentions, together with our character traits, explain much of our overt behavior. These ways of explaining behavior are pervasive. According to many social psychologists, they are also typically false. Instead, much human behavior is controlled by psychological processes prompted through external triggers that we do not recognize and over which we have little control. Once triggered, these processes shape our behavior in profound ways. Experiments demonstrating these effects are legion, suggesting that any number of elements can have determining sway on our behavior, whether it's a simple smile (which can make cooperation among players in strategic games more likely), or the chance finding of a dime in a payphone (which can temporarily increase the probability of the finder acting altruistically), or the presence of unappealing, half-eaten foodstuffs in an experimenter's room (which makes subjects behave moralistically when responding to unrelated experimental questions). Minor details can have major impact on our behavior, and our ignorance of this phenomenon should be of moral concern. This is the focus of my dissertation.

In particular, I argue that individuals can often agree or disagree on moral issues not because of the content of their respective beliefs, but rather because of their unawareness of (and thus inattentiveness to) the subtle impact of their immediate environments--and their own mannerisms--on moral reasoning and conduct. The effects can be considerable: How long we are willing to engage in dialogue; the degree to which we find accommodation to others acceptable; the creativity we deploy in finding mutually agreeable outcomes to problems; the significance we attach to any problems we may have--each of these crucial factors in moral deliberation can be affected profoundly by minor variations in our conduct and our situations. Take any social encounter: Even before we share our opinions and engage in serious discussion, we are already signaling various attitudes and even content-rich information about ourselves through cues arising from our facial expressions, posture, tone of voice, forms of address, and other seemingly minor details of our comportment. These cues automatically bias how others interpret our subsequent behavior, and thereby influence how our interactions with others enfold. Attending to such minor details may seem antiquated--even priggish--from a modern perspective. Yet the influence they exert should caution us against discounting their importance.

SEATTLE – Some members of the 12th Man ended up in jail over the weekend when Hoquiam Police decided to use last Saturday's playoff game as a way to round up some suspects.

Police figured a lot of people would be home watching the game on TV, so they decided to knock on the doors of those with outstanding warrants.

Twenty-three people were booked into jail. They also missed the end of the game.

Question:

"Technically, is there a difference between 'Dead End' and 'No Outlet'? I see each, although the newer signs seem to be 'No Outlet'. When is one wording used over the other?"

Answer:

Turns out there is a difference in road speak. Eric Widstrand, the Seattle Department of Transportation's city traffic engineer, explains:

"A 'Dead End' sign is used at the entrance of a single street that terminates in a dead end or a cul-de-sac. A 'No Outlet' sign is used at the entrance to a road network from which there is no other exit, for example, when a small neighborhood composed of several streets has only one entrance on to an arterial street."
