lets have a respectful discussion about these subtle fragrances
― deej, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 15:08 (sixteen years ago) link
i like subtle fragrances. i think the first one i ever bought for myself was Coty Sand and Sable in 7th grade. its subtlety is questionable, but i still think it smells pretty good once the alcohol-y smell evaporates. sort of like gardenia.

i haven't worn cologne since lol high school. kinda just fell out of the habit. if someone suggest a cheap brand they like i might pick up a bottle.
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 16:11 (sixteen years ago) link
bottle (?)
i don't know about cheap. i'm into jean paul gaultier's gaultier squared. i used to love calvin klein romance. i also really want to look into the burberrys.

is that not respectful ?
nah you can wear cologne respectfully
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 24 June 2008 16:22 (sixteen years ago) link
i am not a fan of cool water. other high school boy faves that i am not a fan of include drakkar noir and fahrenheit. they all smell like desperate teenaged boy to me.
if you are a man, you could do worse than smelling like sandalwood and soap.

guys should not wear too much gross smelling cologne
..for that matter, neither should women
― La Lechera, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link
I used to wear me a couple of dabs of sandalwood oil many years back. There are different varieties, but this particular one was incredible-smelling.
I wore cologne briefly in high school, and cannot picture myself ever doing that again, with the exception of occasionally applying some scent from a magazine advertisement, just for novelty's sake. (Do they even do that in magazines anymore, or has that practice died out b/c of people who are allergic or hypersensitive to smells?)
― dell, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:06 (sixteen years ago) link
in like 4th grade, i thought that TRiBE smelled really good

I'm partial to Hermès' Eau d'Orange Verte and sometimes Dior Homme.

Surmounter, where do you get Fragonard?
― Michael White, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:21 (sixteen years ago) link
online -- my boyfriend got me one of their samples, with a small bottle of 5 different scents. they were all so pretty and it lasted forever
― Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:25 (sixteen years ago) link
I used to love Clinique Happy! It's been a long time but I'm sure I'd still like it, but now I'm pretty much 100% Burberry Brit, all the time. It's so lovely.
― Finefinemusic, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:26 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah see i really likd the Brit when i was at sephora. but for summer, clinique happy would be great
― Surmounter, Tuesday, 24 June 2008 17:28 (sixteen years ago) link
if i had to wear one, i'd use comme des garcons man 2. its really really good, but my best (female) friend uses it already

Also, I have never waxed my eyebrows. I am monobrow and proud.
Also, I am defiantly heterosexual. "The man can't make me go down on other guys; fuck you GWB and big corporate fat cats, get off my ass!"

Lately I'm wearing Carolina Herrera 212, but my old standby is Chanel #19. Mr. Que's shaving cream smells awesome on him and is better than any cologne he could ever wear.

I also have a thirty year bottle of Givenchy perfume that my Grandma gave me (among other testers in charming ridiculous boxes and bottles) - it still smells good and hasn't burned me yet so I must assume it's safe to wear? The scent drives my boyfriend wild, it's fun to watch!

i'm currently wearing flower by kenzo, which i love because it's a soft kind of citrusy-chocolate. i used to love au blanc by bvlgari, but that shit is super expensive, i can't find it in a parfum (only a weak cologne spray, which is still like $75).
i really really like perfumes that lean more towards the unisex, soft citrusy scents.
― Rubyredd, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 00:32 (sixteen years ago) link
i want un jardin sur le nil, too. also the comme de garcons series 6 synthetic: tar.

lol, there is a beer in philly named "kenzo".... streets of kenny
also, "fleur de lehigh", good grief

i would dab fleur de lehigh on my pulse points

kenzo's main line is linens and high-end comfy home things i think
one of my favorite simpsons lines is when moe says "kids, i'm less of a bath guy and more of a cologne guy"

One of my coworkers gives himself an injudicious slap of cologne in our work lounge 1) after arriving in the morning 2) after eating lunch and 3) possibly other times that I don't catch. It is most noxious. People need to realize that some of us have a rather delicate sense of smell.

I haven't worn fragrance regularly in a while. When I do want a scent however, I really like OP Juice. It's cheap as hell, but it's actually a reasonable light, summery kinda thing.
My nose isn't that discerning, but what comes off most are cucumber and citrus, with a woody kinda base.
The bottle it comes in sucks much one though. I've bought it on three occasions and each time the level that you press to dispense the fragrance has broken off, so that I have to jerry-rig it.
― kingkongvsgodzilla, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 12:33 (sixteen years ago) link
My first signature scent was a mess of CK Contradiction, two dabs of sandalwood, and the Camel smoke.

I use bvlgari au thé blanc and every time I think of switching I end up far too dizzied by the selection: nothing else seems right, it's all too flowery or too blustery or too acid. So, even though it's pricey... every time one of my family travels via a duty free area I beg them to pick some up for me.
A couple of months ago I went to hug a friend's husband and found he was wearing it too: it was really weird to smell 'my' perfume on someone else's skin, like being stuck in an olfactory loop.
― c sharp major, Wednesday, 25 June 2008 17:24 (sixteen years ago) link
yeah perfume choosing is hard work. i would never have bought kenzo cuz it smells like shit on a swatch, but somehow smells completely different on my skin. a friend had some and we were goin out in a hurry so i just sprayed it on, and fell in love.
