set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:43 (twelve years ago)

SUPER anal is keeping your measurements in an evernote doc so you always have them available on your phone, not that i know anyone who does that

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:44 (twelve years ago)

i kind of have an irrational thing against slim fit shirts, shit is gauche imo. proper tucking will sort most things fine

r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:46 (twelve years ago)

that's what i tell myself when i attempt to cram in this xl ralph lauren forest green corduroy button down i rly like anyway

r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:47 (twelve years ago)

a shirt thats just like vaguely the same size as ones torso i think is what most people are going for

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:48 (twelve years ago)

http://trendkin.com/blog/how-to-do-the-military-tuck/

unflattering photos but u get the drift

tailor can also have shirts darted if u really insist

idk i tend to buy 90% second-hand so maybe i'm just less demanding / go for a more classic silhouette

r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

obvs weve gone pretty far toward things being super tight and fitted and im sure things will swing back the other way, like steven alan is selling 'tradiational fit suits' as we speak, but i think generally just having something that is m/l the right shape reguardless of whether its tight or loose is not too much to ask, i mean the thing abt the military tuck is its designed for a uniform which by definition is not tailored

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 16:57 (twelve years ago)

is "every shirt that I've got based on neck size has been voluminous everywhere else" rly a common complaint then

r|t|c, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 17:06 (twelve years ago)

ya

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 17:08 (twelve years ago)

its getting better but for a while there my lord

lag∞n, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 17:08 (twelve years ago)

military tuck is fine if you're wearing a jacket and not taking it off--was fine at my wedding.

but in a biz cazh environment where your jacket comes off that pooling in the back still sucks. it's the voluminous mall shirt fit designed for large americans.

Jeff--just do Trunk Club, like all the other tech dudes in our fair city. I have a few friends who have gone from hack-a-thon t-shirts to looking sharp.

only dogg forgives (Eazy), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 18:44 (twelve years ago)

I've considered it, but so expensive.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 19:11 (twelve years ago)

obvs weve gone pretty far toward things being super tight and fitted and im sure things will swing back the other way

reading the military tuck how-to where theyre like 'obviously everyone understands that you should get well-tailored shirts that fit your body' was sort of lol since i feel like the thing rn is too have oversized, boxy tops that hang loose around the torso although obv if you work at like a law firm or w/e you arent showing up at work with an 80s ralph lauren pastel dress shirt two sizes too big hanging untucked but yknow

password1 (Lamp), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

all the boutiquey scandinavian shit i see these days feels and fits about a size too big

max, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 19:46 (twelve years ago)

i've def fallen into the oversize, baggy top and skinny bottoms thing without entirely intending to, i remember two or three summers ago i bought a bunch of ugly 90s boxy, pleated shorts from thrift shops and everyone made fun of me, even tho it was kind of a 'look' i never felt super comfortable with it but i dont mind with dress shirts or sweaters and particularly t-shirts. obv theres a comfort level there, esp in the summer, but i think its interesting how odd i thought i looked in the sort of shorts that would've been entirely unobjectionable in the 90s

password1 (Lamp), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 20:17 (twelve years ago)

It's amazing how much my confidence level shoots up when I have a nice fitting shirt. Like at least 47%.

Jeff, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 20:38 (twelve years ago)

Besides all that do we really want Jordan Peterson to disguise himself as a normal academic in the name of 'good taste'

If the guy's position is clothes should describe something about the wearer, i'm getting 'unhinged, possible sociopath, makes his living "thinking" but nobody asks to see the credentials' from Peterson's new look

the hat is great - didn't think a trucker hat could feel "good" and "substantial" when worn.

there's this party we go to every year, it's formal dress but also kind of not, lately I've been going in more and more ridiculous outfits

this year I decided what I want to wear - I want to wear that stupid black and white checkered shirt and white cowboy hat that Garth Brooks is wearing on The Chase album cover. one of the most iconic dumb looks of all time, I think.

but I can't find the shirt! surely it must exist somewhere? all I can find are shirts with the album cover on it, sometimes checkered in the same pattern, which is kind of funny. but not what I'm looking for. where might I find something like this???

frogbs, Friday, 3 February 2023 14:20 (three years ago)

Quick google search reveals it's a vintage Mo Betta western shirt. Search ebay/etsy/poshmark etc for Mo Betta i guess. Looks like they're all equally ridiculous even if you don't find the exact shirt.

Sometimes my wife and I have this conversation like, "do you want Chinese food" and the answer is like, "no, we had Chinese food last night" and then somebody is like, "you know Chinese people eat Chinese food every day."

I wonder how turtles feel about turtlenecks. Like, "dude I wear a turtleneck literally all the time."
