Nick Wooster is so dreamy

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 20:54 (thirteen years ago)

Like he is basically the epitome of what I want to be when I hit 40 or 50

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 20:55 (thirteen years ago)

why wait?

that parrot hat tho

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 20:56 (thirteen years ago)

sick, right?

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 20:59 (thirteen years ago)

too bad it's supleme and therefore sells for $70-$90 on ebay

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:01 (thirteen years ago)

ouch

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:05 (thirteen years ago)

oh and i'm p sure bias is specifically 45 degrees -- you see bias cuts mostly in womenswear because they drape & move more fluidly that cuts on the grain

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

than*

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:14 (thirteen years ago)

ah, i know the bias cut dress idea but i didn't realize it was specifically 45

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

well, i guess most trad neckties are bias cut too -- weaves stretch along the 45 diagonal, so it helps ties knot evenly, dimple well, and the stretch helps prevent the seams tearing

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

oh yeah, all of my ties are 45 degrees except the squared-off skinny chambray one i already regret buying

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:36 (thirteen years ago)

reasonable, right?

http://moderndestiny.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/the-hillside-chambray-tie.jpg

uggh though the unnecessary selvedge line is such early 10s artisanal moustache douchery

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:37 (thirteen years ago)

i kinda like how this is just the general men's clothes thread now, as the dresses thread is for the ladies

ILS - the smallest of tribes

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:41 (thirteen years ago)

i have a bit of a fetish for square-end skinnies, esp old rooster ties with crazy prints! even though i am prob a bit too thick to rock a v skinny tie, i do anyway

selvedge line is the sort of detail i don't really care about, SUCH FINE MATERIALS, DO YOU SEEEE yeah uhm

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

artisanal heirloom denim

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:42 (thirteen years ago)

i'm telling you man, it's the sort of thing that's going to make me embarrassed to own the tie in 10 years, might take it to my ladies at the drycleaners and see if they can get rid of it

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:43 (thirteen years ago)

r.i.p. steve shasta

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:44 (thirteen years ago)

hehe i say this as a dude with *only* jp selvedge jeans

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:47 (thirteen years ago)

idk, i think the selvege is only really telling & worth showing if the fabric was milled by some real high quality manufacturer that has a signature selvedge, and in some cases it makes sense bc selvedge is more resilient than a cut edge, otherwise it's kind of a nonsense detail because every woven fabric has a selvedge

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 21:49 (thirteen years ago)

right!

i think the japanese jeans with red selvedge it's like indicating that it was woven on those old levi's looms we hear so much about?

but on a chambray tie from brooklyn it's silly

the late great, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 22:01 (thirteen years ago)

I still don't really "get" the whole selvedge thing

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

What I do get though are my new black Helmut Lang corduroys that look pristine that I got for free.

gwenguthrie gwen ross (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 13 September 2012 14:05 (thirteen years ago)

❏❐❑❒ (gr8080), Friday, 14 September 2012 20:57 (thirteen years ago)

in the past few years i have gotten away from the pearl snaps but maybe its time for a re-evaluation. denim westerns w/ embroidered yokes, tho, i can definitely see myself wearing summin' like that

gr80 that floral western with the black piping is dooooope

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 20 September 2012 14:01 (thirteen years ago)

your westerns are really nice gr80

caek, Thursday, 20 September 2012 14:05 (thirteen years ago)

the second one (roses) is awesome

interesting evolution of interpretation of "fun shirts" itt from like, shirts w diff colour sleeves to now basically just shirts with fun prints. i wear the latter but haven't really seen much of the former, not sure i could pull it off but some of the shirts linked upthread are really nice

flopson, Thursday, 20 September 2012 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

the white&purple cowboy shirt is gorgeous, i'd love it.

this shirt ticks all thread boxes but it doesn't seem quite right to me -

ogmor, Friday, 21 September 2012 17:54 (thirteen years ago)

fabric panels would prob be better reversed imho, large print would work better on front panels

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Friday, 21 September 2012 17:56 (thirteen years ago)

also blue oxford cloth doesn't go with everything, i don't hate it on principle but it's a pretty bad combo

real men have been preparing manly dishes for centuries (elmo argonaut), Friday, 21 September 2012 17:58 (thirteen years ago)

yeah i think prints on the front & plain sleeves is normally better but the reverse seems more common.

ogmor, Friday, 21 September 2012 18:21 (thirteen years ago)

selling a "fun shirt" on ebay, more like fun shit imo

that's about as fun as it gets

incidentally i hung w/ a hipster at a bar last night who had a nylon popover track jacket w/ a very similar panel vibe happening, it was q cool
