btw, we did 20 polls on the list in the course of 2013. so if that pace continues, we should get up to around the Emo/Scream poll by the end of 2014. not as many polls i'm as interested in participating in this year as there were last year, but excited for Steely Dan and Outkast.
― ol' Wrink P's thinkpiece (some dude), Thursday, 2 January 2014 12:34 (four years ago) Permalink
which means we'd also get to the New Pornographers poll around late 2016 or early 2017 hehe

Where is the Classic Rock Canon poll? Having missed out on a lot of the history of this, I understand why we want to coordinate the timing so's not to have 6 million ballot polls flooding the board at once, but don't it seem like we could have one start at least every week?

Most poll-runners have been leaving the voting open for 10-14 days to flog as many ballots as possible out of ILM. Some overlap is cool -- one poll open for voting while another one is rolling out its results -- but any efforts to put these polls on a timetable have been met with an unspoken "yes that's fine for everyone else but I'm going to run my poll this way." I'm not going to play the heavy -- that's the quickest way for these to grind to a screeching stop, imo.

still! it's gonna be a slow burner because it seems like the big genre-spanning polls seem to take longer for people to put together ballots for (as opposed to just looking at one band's discography and quickly being able to ID favorites). so i would say, don't mind my slow progress and just proceed with any single artist polls in the queue, and we can worry about whether results rollouts overlap or anything later if it looks likely.

Well just to explain my reasoning, I've been making mixes for these years over here and there are full packs of mp3s ready to download, so maybe could get a little over 10 ballots. Then could do 1900s next year, then 1910s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s - think 60s onwards has been done enough.

run in reverse order for 2018 I say - get some polls ppl have recently signed up for and are actively jazzed to do, then see how that does for overall poll enthusiasm
― Doctor Casino, Sunday, 4 March 2018 04:02 (one month ago) Permalink
mookieproof - yeah, baseball is almost here!
ufo - it's all yours if you want it.
Spottie - i think the interest is still there, my Talking Heads poll was in 2017 and got a huge turn out, one of the biggest ones in ILM history. i'm just a bit pissed at Joy Division. i got the ballots, more than your last poll, but i got little reaction and after how much time and effort was put into it i was upset. the votes were there but where was the reaction was my issue. (Go SF Giants)
Doctor Casino - Super Furry Animals is next then :-) talk about a very limited audience but my passion for that band is almost unmatched, only the Boo Radleys poll compares to that for me and that one was done. the B-52's would be outstanding and a lot of fun.
if ufo or someone else takes Smashing Pumpkins then i will do the Jesus and Mary Chain sometime in 2018 or next for me.

With Utopia out, I'd be happy to move to the front of the line with a Bjork poll soon imo.

please do, that would be great

No idea what etiquette is, so I'll wait at least until the Smashing Pumpkins rollout is done.

That would be great Eric!

My mistake. I thought they were wrapping up the songs but it was just albums.

That sounds great Eric, you can be poll #88. I hope there is a side poll for the Sugercubes.

Bang Bang You're Dead... POLL In Your Head - ILM Artist Poll #87 - SMASHING PUMPKINS - Results
Yeah, planning on side polling the albums + Sugarcubes tunes. But I think B-sides can be part of the main poll.

Also, something I'd been wondering about but too lazy to investigate. Has there been a '90s dance music poll?
― "Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2018 14:54 (two weeks ago) Permalink
that would be amazing
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 April 2018 14:55 (two weeks ago) Permalink
I volunteer to tabulate that one too, if not.

there's been a '90s electronic music poll, but
― mookieproof, Thursday, 5 April 2018 15:04 (two weeks ago) Permalink
... not an '80s dance poll, though

Has there been a '90s dance music poll?
I seem to remember one about five years ago

I checked the results of the '90s electronic poll and it had an acceptable amount of dancey-ness in it. Probably don't need a repoll.

Excuse me, but I just have to explode this poll off me: POLL Neon Like -- ILM artist poll #88 -- BJÖRK (voting open until April 27, 2018)

... when would be a cool time to run a kylie minogue poll? i've never done one of these before so i'm a little clueless
― flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 14 April 2018 20:33 (one week ago) Permalink

Does anybody want to do something now? With all due respect, Pre 1900 seems like it would get 10 ballots max. Maybe I'm wrong. ― kornrulez6969, Monday, February 12, 2018 12:58 AM (seven hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post PermalinkWell just to explain my reasoning, I've been making mixes for these years over here and there are full packs of mp3s ready to download, so maybe could get a little over 10 ballots. Then could do 1900s next year, then 1910s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s - think 60s onwards has been done enough.― mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, February 12, 2018 8:15 AM (two months ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Any input on this? I would like to run it, but if there's zero interest then fair enough, I won't bother.
