btw, we did 20 polls on the list in the course of 2013. so if that pace continues, we should get up to around the Emo/Scream poll by the end of 2014. not as many polls i'm as interested in participating in this year as there were last year, but excited for Steely Dan and Outkast.

ol' Wrink P's thinkpiece (some dude), Thursday, 2 January 2014 12:34 (four years ago) Permalink

which means we'd also get to the New Pornographers poll around late 2016 or early 2017 hehe

ol' Wrink P's thinkpiece (some dude), Thursday, 2 January 2014 12:36 (four years ago) Permalink

Anyone know when the Roxy poll starts?

Iago Galdston, Thursday, 2 January 2014 13:27 (four years ago) Permalink

presumably once voting for the "2013 albums and tracks poll" ends. but i'll wait for the official prod.

charlie h, Thursday, 2 January 2014 15:00 (four years ago) Permalink

or after classic rock, i dunno.

charlie h, Thursday, 2 January 2014 15:01 (four years ago) Permalink

Oh dang, I traded the official prod for some blue meth over the holidays.

oldbowie (WilliamC), Thursday, 2 January 2014 16:36 (four years ago) Permalink

I think we should include ETAs of everything in the queue, just to twist the knife a little more.

Matt Groening is MY Cousin (Leee), Thursday, 2 January 2014 17:22 (four years ago) Permalink

If anyone dies under suspicious circumstances, and the person whose poll it is is implicated in said suspicious circumstances, I'm assuming they don't get to jump ahead in the line.

clemenza, Thursday, 2 January 2014 18:55 (four years ago) Permalink

I think if Bjork killed Stephin Merritt, starting her poll immediately would be the least we could do.

oldbowie (WilliamC), Thursday, 2 January 2014 18:58 (four years ago) Permalink

is this where I plead for you maniacs to separate the Eno and Roxy/Ferry polls?

Eno >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Roxy, give Ferry and Jobson and whoever their second rate solo material if you must but I will vote all Eno in protest if that's how it's gonna be.

sleeve, Friday, 3 January 2014 03:40 (four years ago) Permalink

Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ (brimstead), Friday, 3 January 2014 03:42 (four years ago) Permalink

feelin u sleeve. i dunno that eno >>>>>>> roxy but def a different thing. just adds noise to both "roxy" and "eno" polls and makes results less satisfying.

Where is the Classic Rock Canon poll? Having missed out on a lot of the history of this, I understand why we want to coordinate the timing so's not to have 6 million ballot polls flooding the board at once, but don't it seem like we could have one start at least every week?

Ynysddu is the best policy (but tread Caerphilly) (staggerlee), Thursday, 16 January 2014 17:40 (four years ago) Permalink

There's a hiatus while the big EOY poll is happening...normal service will return at the start February I guess.

Two days left to vote in the ILM EOY Poll! (seandalai), Thursday, 16 January 2014 17:47 (four years ago) Permalink

There's a break from these while the end-of-year polls run their course. The list should pick back up in February.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 16 January 2014 17:48 (four years ago) Permalink

There's a pause during the big end-of-year polls, regular polls will begin again by February.

Euler, Thursday, 16 January 2014 17:52 (four years ago) Permalink

what they said, something something February

channel 9's meaty urologist (WilliamC), Thursday, 16 January 2014 18:24 (four years ago) Permalink

Any reason we can't do one a week starting February?

Ynysddu is the best policy (but tread Caerphilly) (staggerlee), Thursday, 16 January 2014 18:49 (four years ago) Permalink

Most poll-runners have been leaving the voting open for 10-14 days to flog as many ballots as possible out of ILM. Some overlap is cool -- one poll open for voting while another one is rolling out its results -- but any efforts to put these polls on a timetable have been met with an unspoken "yes that's fine for everyone else but I'm going to run my poll this way." I'm not going to play the heavy -- that's the quickest way for these to grind to a screeching stop, imo.

It's really not too hard if you just throw all the ballots in your recycle bin and make up the results you want to see.

still! it's gonna be a slow burner because it seems like the big genre-spanning polls seem to take longer for people to put together ballots for (as opposed to just looking at one band's discography and quickly being able to ID favorites). so i would say, don't mind my slow progress and just proceed with any single artist polls in the queue, and we can worry about whether results rollouts overlap or anything later if it looks likely.

Algerian Horsebeater (some dude), Thursday, 16 January 2014 21:08 (four years ago) Permalink

as far as I'm concerned, you could start the discussion thread at any time & it'll be it's own board

Well just to explain my reasoning, I've been making mixes for these years over here and there are full packs of mp3s ready to download, so maybe could get a little over 10 ballots. Then could do 1900s next year, then 1910s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s - think 60s onwards has been done enough.

There was a great 50's poll a few years back but we should definitely do the rest.

kornrulez6969, Tuesday, 20 February 2018 03:41 (two months ago) Permalink

i'm a bit sour on polls at the moment after Joy Division. if anyone wants to take over and run any polls i have signed up for you are more than welcome. i'm sure i will do a poll again, just nothing in the near future.

Bee OK, Saturday, 3 March 2018 21:13 (one month ago) Permalink

you okay man?

mookieproof, Saturday, 3 March 2018 21:24 (one month ago) Permalink

I could do a Kraftwerk poll soon, or Smashing Pumpkins since Bee OK isn't up for it?

ufo, Sunday, 4 March 2018 01:35 (one month ago) Permalink

im not really sure we need this whole thing anymore? interest seems to have died quite a bit and a lot of users on the upcoming list dont even post anymore. or maybe just clear the deck and have people re-sign up to run whatever.

run in reverse order for 2018 I say - get some polls ppl have recently signed up for and are actively jazzed to do, then see how that does for overall poll enthusiasm

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 4 March 2018 04:02 (one month ago) Permalink

mookieproof - yeah, baseball is almost here!

ufo - it's all yours if you want it.

Spottie - i think the interest is still there, my Talking Heads poll was in 2017 and got a huge turn out, one of the biggest ones in ILM history. i'm just a bit pissed at Joy Division. i got the ballots, more than your last poll, but i got little reaction and after how much time and effort was put into it i was upset. the votes were there but where was the reaction was my issue. (Go SF Giants)

Doctor Casino - Super Furry Animals is next then :-) talk about a very limited audience but my passion for that band is almost unmatched, only the Boo Radleys poll compares to that for me and that one was done. the B-52's would be outstanding and a lot of fun.

if ufo or someone else takes Smashing Pumpkins then i will do the Jesus and Mary Chain sometime in 2018 or next for me.

Bee OK, Thursday, 15 March 2018 01:31 (one month ago) Permalink

I can start the Smashing Pumpkins poll next week then to get things going

for those of you who use bookmarks, yay new poll:

POLLcelina of the Vast Oceans - ILM artist poll #87 - SMASHING PUMPKINS (voting open until 2 April 2018)

two weeks pass...

With Utopia out, I'd be happy to move to the front of the line with a Bjork poll soon imo.

please do, that would be great

ufo, Wednesday, 4 April 2018 15:00 (two weeks ago) Permalink

No idea what etiquette is, so I'll wait at least until the Smashing Pumpkins rollout is done.

That would be great Eric!

Oh, which ends today, looks like. I'll make it a point to open that up soon.

The SP rollout started today and I think it ends on Friday.

jmm, Wednesday, 4 April 2018 17:44 (two weeks ago) Permalink

My mistake. I thought they were wrapping up the songs but it was just albums.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Wednesday, 4 April 2018 17:48 (two weeks ago) Permalink

That sounds great Eric, you can be poll #88. I hope there is a side poll for the Sugercubes.

Bee OK, Wednesday, 4 April 2018 17:50 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Yeah, planning on side polling the albums + Sugarcubes tunes. But I think B-sides can be part of the main poll.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Wednesday, 4 April 2018 17:57 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Also, something I'd been wondering about but too lazy to investigate. Has there been a '90s dance music poll?

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2018 14:54 (two weeks ago) Permalink

that would be amazing

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Thursday, 5 April 2018 14:55 (two weeks ago) Permalink

I volunteer to tabulate that one too, if not.

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2018 14:56 (two weeks ago) Permalink

there's been a '90s electronic music poll, but

mookieproof, Thursday, 5 April 2018 15:04 (two weeks ago) Permalink

... not an '80s dance poll, though

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Thursday, 5 April 2018 15:49 (two weeks ago) Permalink

Has there been a '90s dance music poll?

I seem to remember one about five years ago

the salacious inaudible (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Thursday, 5 April 2018 17:11 (two weeks ago) Permalink

I checked the results of the '90s electronic poll and it had an acceptable amount of dancey-ness in it. Probably don't need a repoll.

Excuse me, but I just have to explode this poll off me: POLL Neon Like -- ILM artist poll #88 -- BJÖRK (voting open until April 27, 2018)

"Minneapolis" (barf) (Eric H.), Monday, 9 April 2018 02:00 (one week ago) Permalink

... when would be a cool time to run a kylie minogue poll? i've never done one of these before so i'm a little clueless

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 14 April 2018 20:33 (one week ago) Permalink

you can open voting right when Bjork concludes. good luck and have fun. i was so nerves doing my first one, which happened to be New Order.

Bee OK, Saturday, 14 April 2018 20:48 (one week ago) Permalink

Does anybody want to do something now? With all due respect, Pre 1900 seems like it would get 10 ballots max. Maybe I'm wrong.

Any input on this? I would like to run it, but if there's zero interest then fair enough, I won't bother.
