ok so i was listening to this modeselektor tunte last ngiht and, now i know what a "hoover tune" is like! that sound is fucking great1. many years back, (like 1996?!), i remember reading mixmag or some shit about jon the dentist, saying - everyone is loving the hoover - and had a picture of jon wielding a hitachi around on a dancefloor (this is pre-dyson natch.), and i was just like, what the fuck is that shit, wankers. but now i realise that hoover noises rule!

so, what are the best hoover tunes?

WHAT, ANOTHER THREAD ABOUT LOVELES?!?!?!?

I always used to love hoovering to Husker Du's Candy Apple Grey. It somehow made sense.

do you mean hoovers as in mentasms ambrose?

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:43 (twenty years ago) link

oh, ok, no you dont really, er, let me think, hang on

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 11:44 (twenty years ago) link

yeah well maybe hoover = mentasm. it sounds a bit the same. but there seemed to be a point where that was kinda of a genre in itself.

i was always a bit unsure as to exactly what it was too. i thought it meant just warbling sub-bass like on 'Dead Dred' and 'Super Sharp Shooter'

this guy is asking for track IDs which feature 'hoover bass' - must check these out

the tune i think is N-JOi's 'Live In Manchester part 2' but probably isn't at all

DJPC 'Inssomniak' (whichever version has the MAAAD switcherooing of the sound)

'Dominator' (Betram mix)

Rufige Kru 'Dark Metal' and Doc Scott 'Unofficial Ghost'

Cybersonik, seconded. Isn't that where it started? The songs on the b-side are beautiful.

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone have the 90's Hoover classic - Aircut - (Prepare for the) Visual Attack????

from the YSI thread - this guy seems clear what a hoover tune is. i dont think its anything to do with ardkore as suggested above. The name i associate with it is Jon Pleased Wimmin. who is that and what is it - im still to find out?!?!
