I forgot to listen to that Proc Fiskal album all the way through last year but a few year-end lists liked it. Time for another go?

mh, Monday, 11 February 2019 21:19 (seven months ago) link

The new (upcoming) DJ Plead EP hits hard

change display name (Jordan), Monday, 11 February 2019 21:22 (seven months ago) link

I listened to that Proc Fiskal album once and can't remember much about it, but I like that he chops up samples of his friends hanging out.

This Nyege Nyege release is all energy, I want to play some of these tracks slowed down juuust a bit

change display name (Jordan), Monday, 11 February 2019 22:30 (seven months ago) link

Some nice remixes of a great vocal track (She's Drunk + Sho Madjozi)

And this release is a few years old, but it was new to me and it's sick. Everything that I've heard from Cocktail Party Effect is great, fairly minimal and yet really detailed.

Pretty cool & very polished release from Siete Catorce and Taso on NAAFI, could see this being played in a lot of kinds of sets:

Seven remixes of one Charlie XCX song, the LOFT one is brilliant

change display name (Jordan), Thursday, 14 February 2019 18:42 (seven months ago) link

love that track; thanks for the heads up

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 14 February 2019 19:00 (seven months ago) link

v cool record

LOFT one rules

nxd, Friday, 15 February 2019 11:29 (seven months ago) link

Can’t wait for some new loft

Apparently there’s also more nkisi already? And new lee gamble, who should be up my alley but somehow leaves me cold

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Friday, 15 February 2019 23:24 (seven months ago) link

Very large --

(vinyl only, which is too bad, but I'm maybe they'll release digital later on?)

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 19 February 2019 17:54 (seven months ago) link

there's a tzusing release from late last year that looks like a collection of prior releases that's also vinyl only

might get a digital release after the vinyl's all moved

mh, Tuesday, 19 February 2019 17:58 (seven months ago) link

wow that LOFT XCX remix is immense

bhad bundy (Simon H.), Tuesday, 19 February 2019 18:08 (seven months ago) link

this new Murlo is sounding pretty cool. Bright and trancy uk bass / post-dubstep. Picks up where guys like Rustie (?) left off and takes it in a more cerebral direction

three weeks pass...

New Scratch DVA drum tracks:

Very excited about the new Le Dom that comes out in a few weeks.

change display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 20 March 2019 17:05 (five months ago) link

I wanted to like the new Rian Treanor record a lot more than I do. The rhythms feel too algorithmically-generated to me, too scattered, not enough function or intention. His Mixmag mix was great though.

change display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 20 March 2019 17:08 (five months ago) link

Oh and this one by hmurd (also on Tobago Tracks) has been a favorite:

New LOFT ep coming next month on Tri Angle :))))

All kiiinds of good stuff on this (Total Freedom doing bounce edits, Arca doing Ciara edits, etc)

Really like this one (batida/'afro house')

The new Abdu Ali album Fiyah!!! i incorporates Baltimore club music and more. Sarah M Hughes does free jazz solos on a few cuts on it. I like it

Ali was included in a NY Times magazine article on Baltimore arts.

curmudgeon, Sunday, 28 April 2019 19:37 (four months ago) link

There's an awkwardly phrased at times, rave review of Abdu Ali in Quietus as well, but barely any ilm/ilx mentions (I also mentioned this on a rolling Baltimore club thread that has been barely utilized in years)

curmudgeon, Monday, 29 April 2019 11:08 (four months ago) link

Bookworms! One to watch ...

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Monday, 29 April 2019 20:38 (four months ago) link

Still liking the Abdu Ali album,

curmudgeon, Thursday, 9 May 2019 19:50 (four months ago) link

Maybe I should try the rap thread for it

curmudgeon, Thursday, 9 May 2019 19:51 (four months ago) link

This Svbkvlt (Shanghai) compilation has lots of wild tracks:

Heard the Swimful track on this Air Max '97 mix and had to get the ID (one of mine in there too)

I really like the new Kablam LP, it's super minimal and weird without being abrasive, really has a sustained sound and vibe (

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 24 May 2019 20:22 (three months ago) link

And this LOFT remix is truly up my alley

enjoying the new offering from blanck mass

nxd, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 14:14 (three months ago) link

Oh god, I LOVE Blanck Mass! Fantastic, must listen right away.

Oklamoma! Original Broadway Cast Recording (I M Losted), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 15:14 (three months ago) link

Thoughts on new LOFT ep? Still digesting

Was also gonna rec new Batu, highly, but is that just ... modern bass? Is the reconstructed sound secretly just post-bass mixed with some 4th world elements and neo-idm?

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 16:50 (three months ago) link

I like the Batu, and this one on Timedance sounds very promising:

And yeah, I think that's all true, and I'm not too bothered about what it's called in 2019. For me it basically encompasses dance music outside of techno & house, although there's a tension between the hyper-specific regional scenes that end up influencing and getting embraced by (sometimes subsumed into) the larger dispersed thing.

Thoughts on new LOFT ep? Still digesting

Into it, love 'That Hyde Trakk', but I think her best is still to come (though the first EP is a classic for me).

Speaking of, here's the collab from the new Air Max '97 EP:

change display name (Jordan), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 17:29 (three months ago) link

I think it more likely falls under deconstructed than reconstructed, but I've been enjoying the Amnesia Scanner/Bill Kouligas collaboration, Lexachest.

I gather it's the audio portion of a live a/v show they've done previously and would love to see that live, but the audio's pretty good on its own

mh, Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:29 (three months ago) link

Will check ... agree that LOFT seems to be building towards something potentially game changing but is still in process

Yeah not bothered by taxonomies; I feel like there is/was also a sort of post-arca / post-trap angle too with artists like dasychira who released a cool Ep last year.

Also last year but not in the thread is ZULI whose “terminals” album was one of my favorites.

MSYLMA from this year on halcyon veil is produced by him, not “club” tho but amazing

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Wednesday, 5 June 2019 19:39 (three months ago) link

Hadn't heard those, thanks!

Amazondotcom finally has an official debut ep and it's a must-listen imo:

And this is a fun & super solid 25-track (!) club record from GRRL:

change display name (Jordan), Monday, 10 June 2019 15:36 (three months ago) link

interesting, more grimy militant approach

also halfmoonbk is legit

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Monday, 10 June 2019 17:32 (three months ago) link

Thanks for the Batu recommend btw; it's great! That's a sound I can listen to all day.

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Tuesday, 11 June 2019 21:13 (three months ago) link

glad you like that ulysses - i think new EP is his strongest but he also releases a ton of similar stuff on his timedance label ... started getting heavily into this stuff, what i will perhaps inaccurately call the 'bristol sound' over the past couple years. livity sound and widsom teeth are good labels to check

in fact i was coming here to post something off wisdom teeth --

wish there was more of this stuff played out in nyc rn

here's some heavier stuff, more industrial, lee gamble connection --

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Thursday, 20 June 2019 16:41 (two months ago) link

nice; adding that k-lone EP to listen to now!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Thursday, 20 June 2019 17:44 (two months ago) link

Affirming that the amazondotcom absolutely slays

As does this, I know maybe it’s more weird techno but who cares

Newish from whities

I feel like the ghost of Shackleton haunts a lot of this stuff

ok fuck yes

NAAFI is ascendant. this is my favorite thing debit has done

Been hearing a lot from this Oli XL record in recent mixes:

Speaking of, some nice mixes from Air Max '97 and DJ Plead:

And some Baltimore club from Calvo:

It's raw, fits surprisingly well on Hyperdub. Seems like they're getting back in the game and putting on a lot of good younger producers (Loraine James, etc)

Happy Friday?

New Leonce is great as always:

Upcoming BFTT ep is great in that hyper-detailed Metrist/Batu/Oli XL style of recent posts:

Not entirely dissimilar vibe on this Lurka ep for Wisdom Teeth:

Distorted/dubbed out edits of Iranian music:

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 26 July 2019 15:53 (one month ago) link

This is of course ridiculously fun & good (Bollywood edits from Manara and basically everyone)

And that BFTT EP on Gobstopper is out and excellent

I've only listened to two of the six albums released this year, but so far this is all good

full albums are also on youtube:

New Blanck Mass edging too close to the anthemic 1995 Mortal Kombat s/t aesthetic for my taste.

pomenitul, Sunday, 18 August 2019 14:33 (one month ago) link

oh man, i feel exactly the opposite but i totally agree with your assessment!

Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Sunday, 18 August 2019 20:11 (one month ago) link

it’s a little too on blast, agreed

untuned mass damper (mh), Monday, 19 August 2019 00:49 (one month ago) link

I love the new Blanck Mass album. I'm kind of surprised he doesn't have a dedicated thread by now. "No Dice" is the standout for me. It's catchy and so stylistically audacious. Makes me smile every time I hear it. I'll admit to experiencing a bit of fatigue when listening all the way through on headphones - which was the case with World Eater, too, but he's just cornered the market on whatever genre this is. When I play something new in the house, my wife likes to try to guess when it was made and she was completely stumped by this album.

beard papa, Wednesday, 21 August 2019 19:49 (four weeks ago) link

there's a fuck buttons thread i think. This is a very 'tarot sports' album imo, which - if i wasn't clear before - means i like it a lot.

seconding praise for chants!

this is cool, more jazzy aspects

now that i have listened to the LOFT a few times i have decided i don't like it. it's like 'eruption' but for ableton, just endless digital fireworks but no groove. v disappointed bc i really liked their earlier stuff

Vapor waif (uptown churl), Thursday, 12 September 2019 18:29 (one week ago) link

I like those tracks but feel conflicted about the project of making dance music in 7/8. It would be cool to blend with 4/4 though!

The DJ Haram RA mix rips, and I'm not just saying that because I have a track in it (!).

change display name (Jordan), Tuesday, 17 September 2019 21:58 (two days ago) link

I agree it looks wack as fuck on paper but works sonically imo

Congrats on the track!
