The Band was released the day before I was born, so I'm voting "Up on Cripple Creek" (my favorite of the two Band songs on here).

Two of my favorite songs of all time...Sly gets the vote because Hot Fun is the one that I always think "oh if only this was 10 minutes long instead of 2:38..."

Hard to argue against "I Want You Back," might be the greatest vocal I've ever heard and he was fucking 10 years old.

The totally honest vote would probably be "I Want You Back" or "Gimme Shelter" or "Pale Blue Eyes" but I voted "The Boxer" cuz that's what I was feelin'.

to say nothing of the background vocals and that cool little vocal break in the middle

Anyway, shortlisting Thunderclap Newman, Gainsbourg & Birkin, Fairport Convention (Sandy Denny's voice makes my hair stand on end), and CS&N. I love the Nick Drake track here, but that feels like a random track that needs the rest of the album to put it in context.

Who Knows Where The Time Goes, easy. I'd have a tougher time if "Time is Tight" were here.

lots of excellence here of course, two of the best Neil Youngs, two of the best Rolling Stones.

Surprised "Pale Blue Eyes" is here if "What Goes On" isn't.

The full version of "Oh Happy Day" is great, moves more than the (admittedly) pretty awesome stuff here. Hypnotic...

"Something" was Lennon's favourite song on the album, and McCartney considered it the best song Harrison had written. Frank Sinatra once commented that it was his favourite Lennon–McCartney composition (though the song was actually Harrison's) and "the greatest love song ever written". Lennon contributed piano to the recording and while most of the part was removed, traces of it remain in the final cut, notably on the middle eight, prior to Harrison's guitar solo.
