results are super ILM-core so far...

The Westerman album was the closest I came last year to a seriously out of character taste expansion, but it was all ultimately a little too placid for me.

"Ain't It Different" best one at this point, though this Disclosure is okay

thread to dis hyped releases that you don't get/don't like/wanna complain about

welp, very surprised not to have heard anything on the list yet. quite a few ILM EOY staples (Destroyer) who pop up every year (Taylor Swift) and I think "Oh I might get round to hearing that one day" (Jessie Ware) but don't (Disclosure). Don't see this changing any time soon, but keen to check the stuff I'm not sick to death of hearing about

Nice one, I came close to voting for this, but decided it wasn't the track I'd choose off this wonderful album.

SAULT and co mostly stay in "this is nice" gear for me. Anyway, this is nice

The Susanne Sundfør song was hitting my Sarah McLachlan triggers the wrong way but I might try again.

I did try again with "Cardigan" and meh. Maybe the predictable tied-to-the-barline phrasing and singsong melodicism would be worth it if the lyrics were cleverer, since they tend to foreground those.

Disclosure/Fatouma Diawara song is OK, feels actually danceable. The production is still a bit smooth for me but I like the vocal.

only heard the jessie song b4 but enjoyed every track so far

haven’t really delved into the SAULT realm so far. I tried a few tracks over the year (more Cleo Sol than actual SAULT), and while they were nice, I felt no urge to move it up on my priority list.

genre-wise this music is obviously right up my alley, I was not-born-but-raised with it, but at this particular point in my life I find that I’d rather hear it straight from the 70s/80s sources - see also Jessie Ware to an extent. (this is purely personal and not meant in any way as an absolute statement btw)

US DJ and producer Avalon Emerson’s big 2020 project was her entry in the DJ Kicks series, a prestigious 25-year-old(!) mixtape collection that’s more or less the biggest available platform for non-pop electronic artists to show their skills off outside of the club. The slightly breathless, bass and synth-heavy original "Rotting Hills" anchors Emerson’s Kicks mix.

I initially found cardigan to be a lower tier folklore-track, but it has grown on me quite a lot. Still would pick several of that album's tracks over it.
