Didn't like the album as much as the singles but cool.

Thought this would be Top 5

The Dawn Richard record really grew on me after a few listens, had it just outside the top 10 on my ballot.

if you told me in 1998 that auto tune would prevalent in music in 2020 I would 1st say that's kind of an odd thing to say out of the blue and then I'd say no way that'd be possible

Eh, when your annoyingness is built off of a foundation of smugfuckery that smacks of disdain for your source material, I'm not going to get on board unless I hate the source material.

Also I didn't listen to the entire Polachek album but... she is a very conventional singer? I am not quite sure what people are reacting against other than "sounds like she studied voice at some point"?

There's no odd timbre in her sound and she isn't doing anything particularly weird or unexpected with her voice that I've noticed

I've been waiting for years for Nigerian pop to get an international breakthrough, but when Burna Boy finally achieved it, I found the record... a bit boring... Very tasteful?

Burna Boy is good, not too far off my ballot

the Polachek album is good, i never really got transported by Chairlift before but this one is enjoyable.

Also getting four number one votes and missing the top 10 is insane.

voted for the Hval album and went back to her earlier work expecting it to be markedly different or worse based on what i'd read but it all sounds great, sorry to be late to the party

ya this is 3rd or 4th time I've tried to see what the fuss is about wrt African Giant and I don't get it. It's...ok at best. The autotune is a dealbreaker for me sadly.

I don’t know that that’s true, but get how it could seem like that. I thought their annoyingness stemmed from their youthful over-exuberance. They don’t seem disdainful to me (I think the music is genuinely great) except in the queering of wealth.

If anything there's not enough autotune on African Giant, lol.

there is some shitty autotune tbh and it puts me off sometimes tho sometimes it works like magic.

i hate autotune too, i'm with you. it sounds awful and it's everywhere

i've been stuck on 'secret' lately. love the guitar, which sounds sublime and also like the guy playing it learned how to play the week before recording.

i wish someone would adjust the settings on their autotune to make it sound a little different. everyone's using the factory default preset

Autotune is mostly bad but it can be good sometimes.

Emo vocals are always bad though.
