quick mod check in: i've updated all the images for the first day with Moka's supercool pictures, so maybe "load all" and re-explore.

I've also fully updated the album playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7N1gQj4VAAJEEHY4MbZNOW?si=sP0D_I0UQLy5b5wdHyik1w

Someone's going to have to explain the appeal of this Carla dal Forno

Something to tidy us over while we wait for Demen to give us a sign, maybe.

toilet-cleaning brain surgeon (pomenitul), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:07 (six years ago)

read my first post in the dedicated thread. alternately, 15 emo bands at once + instrumentation/arrangements that spill over into jazz, chiptune, bedroom pop, musical theater

Sounds utterly horrible. I'm in

ILM needs an excelsior thread, also DL otm

otm into winter (rip van wanko), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:11 (six years ago)

glass beach albums is wide-ranging and totally nuts, but i will say you can probably estimate how much you're gonna like the record by how you feel about that first song

ooga booga-ing for the bourgeoisie (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:12 (six years ago)

This Berman stan didn't vote in the albums poll at all b/c he didn't listen to enough albums. Sorry, folks.

may the force leave us alone (zchyrs), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:14 (six years ago)

I am liking this glass beach album of course, halfway through, but Weatherday remains my 2019 choice for This Sort Of Thing

TOO LOW, the Curator (imago), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:15 (six years ago)

having heard both, imo Weatherday isn't even close to Glass Beach's level

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:16 (six years ago)

Ooooh the Caterina Barbieri is more my speed

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:21 (six years ago)

i didn't listen to this one because the title offends me

ciderpress, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:22 (six years ago)

didn't realize the chem bros were still making music!

But guess what? Nobody gives a toot!😂 (Karl Malone), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:22 (six years ago)

The Chemical Brothers album is so killer, I was not expecting to love it as much as I did.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:23 (six years ago)

Didn't even remotely consider voting for it but a pleasant comeback, to be sure.

toilet-cleaning brain surgeon (pomenitul), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:24 (six years ago)

I extremely love Moka’s Chem Bros image here.

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:26 (six years ago)

yeah this was surprisingly good, I think ditching the big-name guest vocalists & refining the album to about 45 minutes paid off pretty well

frogbs, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:26 (six years ago)

First of mine to place. One of the few albums which lives up to best album since hype.

Dan Worsley, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:28 (six years ago)

this is a great record

american bradass (BradNelson), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:33 (six years ago)

had no idea, will check now

nxd, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:33 (six years ago)

One of the few albums which lives up to best album since hype.

I thought Further also lived up to the hype too but you could sense they were trying to get away from themselves, taking cues from stuff like Orbital and krautrock...all of which worked, but it didn't necessarily feel like a Chemical Bros album the way this one does

frogbs, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:35 (six years ago)

Excellent album and also mixed in places so don't listen on shuffle

Hatchie

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:36 (six years ago)

I don't get glass beach and stuff that sounds like glass beach, "glass beach" is a good name though.

may the force leave us alone (zchyrs), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:36 (six years ago)

I think I heard this one... or did I? Hmmm.

toilet-cleaning brain surgeon (pomenitul), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:38 (six years ago)

forgot to vote for this, an album of bangers

nxd, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:39 (six years ago)

whoa weird I was just listening to this album for the first time now

frogbs, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:40 (six years ago)

Chems album rules

totally unnecessary bewbz of exploitation (DJP), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:41 (six years ago)

I wish I liked this more than I do, but as discussed in the tracks poll it behooves one to see her play the songs live.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:42 (six years ago)

glass beach album 2nd half is appealing more than the 1st - very good work so far

TOO LOW, the Curator (imago), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:42 (six years ago)

I never got around to really *getting into* the full hatchie album but its second half is devastating. Especially the final 90 seconds or so of Keep. And Stay with Me. And Secret.

Shit maybe I should spend more time with if

josh az (2011nostalgia), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:43 (six years ago)

I'm one of the seven people who voted for Purple Mountains and I have no previous emotional connection to Bergman or any of his music and only bothered to check it out when I heard he'd died. The fact that there were only six people more committed than me is insane.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:45 (six years ago)

gotta be fake, I'm with emil.y

let's talk about gecs baby (sleeve), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:46 (six years ago)

Hatchie is my first vote to place. The album perfectly lived up to the promise of her EP for me. Apart from the singles, Secret and Unwanted Guest are the two standouts. Keep is a great closer too.. ah I just love the whole thing. I was sad to see she was so overlooked in most of the end of year lists.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:46 (six years ago)

I was one of the Purple Mountains #1s. No idea what happened, but he did so well in the singles poll I guess I can only shrug.

Chris L, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:47 (six years ago)

Bergman or any of his music

Damn, dude was way more versatile than I thought.

toilet-cleaning brain surgeon (pomenitul), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:48 (six years ago)

I likewise had no previous connection to Berman's music (pretty sure I had only heard "Random Rules" before). I came to the rest of his catalog and poetry through this album, which I think is a landmark.

Chris L, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:49 (six years ago)

the purple mountains placement will be revealed as fake when he wins the whole poll

TOO LOW, the Curator (imago), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:49 (six years ago)

it will then be revealed that taylor swift was 51

let's talk about gecs baby (sleeve), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:52 (six years ago)

Yay :) My #2

Frederik B, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:52 (six years ago)

@ the fact that it placed, that it's this high, and that you provided a link to Fantano for our convenience.

toilet-cleaning brain surgeon (pomenitul), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:52 (six years ago)

Taylor was 2 spots higher than PM on my ballot

Indexed, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:53 (six years ago)

oh i liked the art work by these guys
this similar then i guess?

nxd, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:53 (six years ago)

i was a non-believer until this one. still kinda am but it's a good record

ciderpress, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:55 (six years ago)

It's crazier, the whole album is some kind of black metal / cosmic jazz fusion, drenched in harp and vibraphone. I absolutely love it.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:55 (six years ago)

sweet

nxd, Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:55 (six years ago)

holy crap! I didn't vote for this but I nearly did, v glad it placed. their best album

bold caucasian eroticism (Simon H.), Tuesday, 4 February 2020 18:56 (six years ago)

It's cool, and mostly sidesteps the kind of avant-metal I just not-so-subtly dissed on the 2020 rolling metal thread.
