also the drums on "BLOODMONEY" sound a lot like "closer" to me

Actually think I’m a bit obsessed with Sit Stay - it’s the whole pre chorus/chorus plus,...that fucking outro is spectacular

my initial instinct was that it reminds me of some of the stuff Ginger Wildheart has been doing, especially the Hey Hello album, but a full listen might scotch that

i enjoy a lot of this! "concrete" is friggin great.

i do feel like the juxtaposition of pop and heavier stuff works best when the heavy stuff is as well thought-out and complex as the poppy stuff -- like the power metal-type leads and straight industrial moments are a lot more interesting than like, chunky limp bizkit riffs.

love the "wouldn't it be nice" reference in concrete too

this is a good description of one of the videos I watched ("X") but idk it felt less like peanut butter and chocolate and more like peanut butter and mayo (ftr I like mayo).

i have no beef with grimes but she can't write 1 hook let alone 3 in one song

this is probably entirely the wrong question to ask but to what extent was that sinclair character involved in this new album?

she split from him (and made similar accusations against him)

he has credits on the record but iirc his actual involvement in the songwriting is disputed

ok the rest of the album is imo good-to-very-good rather than great (and as i say, tt has already played me like three of its tracks!) but man Concrete

the grimes comparison really only makes sense for "sit/stay", which belongs to the same sort of industrial pop territory as "kill v maim". though if grimes actually made the metal album she kept threatening to i'd imagine it'd probably sound fairly similar to this but probably not as good.

I am not sure how much staying power this will have for me, but it is bringing the lols for me right now. Concrete and Sit/Stay are great. A lot of the twists and turns in other tracks are interesting. At the very least it will be a good gym album.

This is ... something.
Very 90's sounding somehow. 'Concrete' and 'Sit/Stay' the clear highlights. The jarring shifts between "songs within songs" are pretty crazy but kinda gimmicky and distract from some genuinely great musical sequences.

curious what the album’s gonna be like (comes out in october)

the press release made it sound like it'll generally be along the lines of this & "church outfit" but some of it will have guitars on top of the industrial beats too

it also compares one track to 'mirwais-era madonna' which i have no idea how will fit with the rest of the stuff going on and cites burial, blawan, and a whole bunch of new wave as influences

"the attic" is the exact same vibe as this great batten girls track

weird album, it's pretty all over the place stylistically. some of it is great but a lot is just ok at best

highlights are "linger" (the burial impression here lol), "the attic" and "prove it"

I just made this my first Poppy album. I really don't like her voice tbh. Good musical ideas though - esp Church Outfit, Hard and Zig.

i do really love this record but it flies by. much more of a pop-metal experience than i disagree or eat. this would be the best evanescence album ever tho
