Best Album on OUR Favourite Albums of......1994! Part II : ILM Loves Its Canon!!!

I tried to listen to Snivilisation recently and couldn't get along with it except for Are We Here? which funny enough at the time I thought was one of those missing the point token d&b tracks by artists usually known for techno.
Snivilization was my first Orbital album and I pretty much loved every bit of it from the jump. It was the first dance album I bought that felt like it was telling me a story as opposed to just flinging banger after banger at me.

I still prefer the albums either side of it though

I think I'm the same although I haven't listened to Snivilisation in a long time. In Sides was the first Orbital record I heard and I absolutely loved it so I worked backwards from there. Snivilisation definitely took some time getting into.

I mean, In Sides is one of the best albums ever recorded and Brown is brilliant back to front. It's not really knocking Snivilization to like those other two more.

Aloha, suit up.
― sctttnnnt (pgwp), Thursday, 25 July 2019 19:15 (four years ago) link
For me it's In Sides > Sniv > Middle of Nowhere > Orbital 2 but I think they're all pretty close. Wonky is up there somewhere too.
Sniv was the first one I really loved though. For whatever reason "I Wish I Had Duck Feet" hit me in a way nothing else really has since. And the finale "Attached" still sounds like nothing else.

Snivilization is definitely a listen at home on headphones album. When you see them live you prefer the bangers on the other albums. Which is exactly what you got on the insides tour. think they only played one tracks from Snivilization .Snivilization is definitely best listened to all the way through. So i imagine that tour may have been really good (but I bet everyone wanted the bangers from theearlir stuff, lol)
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 25 July 2019 20:50 (four years ago) link
Snivilisation isn't as good as Brown or In Sides, and got a little overpraised in the music press at the time. It's still very good though, obviously.
Voted for Bark Psychosis, just ahead of The Prodigy. 1994 was a strong year.

apparently i just gave up on metal at this point, which i guess makes sense. i'm not super into first wave black metal. that kyuss album is good, i guess. groundwork's "today we will not be invisible nor silent" is pretty good post-rorschach hardcore, though not as good as "protestant".

with apologies for making a heart sign at all the indiest stuff from your v interesting sounding list (I was originally just going to make it at the Gorky's album but I do <3 the others too); there's a few other things on there I've been meaning to check out like the Kalevi Aho and I should probably extend that courtesy to the others too

there's a lot of stuff I love on the actual poll list too, I think I have to vote Mars Audiac Quintet but there's ~5 other things I feel slightly pained abt not voting for
and that's even with Crooked Rain on the other list! (where I will probably vote for it and feel pained about not voting for Holiday)

IIRC they just played "Forever", which was great but also upsetting because I REALLY wanted them to do the segue into "I Wish I Had Duck Feet"
At the end of the day I'm just happy I'm in the crowd noise on one of the "Satan (Live)" singles

holy crap, this was this year too. gonna just have to accept that these polls are probably gonna exclude 8-10 classic rap albums to year.

gonna just have to accept that these polls are probably gonna exclude 8-10 classic rap albums to year.
I just dont know much about rap, I'm afraid. That is why Mike is choosing half of the albums but he likes a lot of different music too and it is really hard to cut a list down to 25 choices each.
And these are supposed to be personal lists rather than the 'canon' and i've polled the canon many times before.
Its hard to balance so we dont end up with a poll of albums only 10 people have heard of and one that will allow 100+ ilxors to vote without having to only include the 'canon' or biggest selling albums.
But I think almost everyone can find one album to vote for and we only have one vote anyway.
and a reminder that the canon albums for 94 are over here Best Album on OUR Favourite Albums of......1994! Part II : ILM Loves Its Canon!!!
I don't think we will be doing two polls for the rest of the decade though. Which might mean a lot of popular albums will just have to miss out.

Further is my favorite FSA record, I think it is the one where it all comes together. I got it on LP from back in the 90s and used to love to listen to it wasted before sleep.
