Some of my all-time favorites missing from this list, perhaps predictably few of my all-time favorites not on this list.

Going down the list, thinking it was underwhelming compared to the other years/polls, and then I saw Therapy? - Troublegum which is literally one of my favorite albums of all time ever, by anyone, and it was an easy choice.

Great year, arguably best of the 90s.
List of those worthy of consideration is massive, so can understand why so much was missed. My honour roll:
Aphex Twin - SAW IIAuteurs- Now I’m a CowboyBlur - ParklifeRy Cooder/Ali Farke Toure - Talking TimbuktuDivine Comedy - Promenade Jan Garbarek/Hilliard Ensemble - OfficiumNas - IllmaticNirvana - MTV UnpluggedOasis - Definitely MaybePortishead - DummyPulp - His n’ HersSnoop Doggy Dogg - DoggystyleSparks - Gratuitous Sax and Senseless ViolinsSuede - Dog Man StarOST - Natural Born Killers
Ordinarily would have went fo Morrissey, but his behaviour has soured the record for me, so either Protection or Tical.
― Dan Worsley, Wednesday, 24 July 2019 16:46 (four years ago) link
Agree with a lot of those omissions Dan. Suede and The Divine Comedy are easily my two favourite albums from this year. I'd add The Cardigans, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Saint Etienne, Magnetic Fields, Jeru The Damaja, Madonna, Lush and Gang Starr too.

Quick top 10: 1. Magnetic Fields - Holiday, 2. Saint Etienne, 3. Sloan - Twice Removed, 4. Therapy?, 5. House of Pain - Same as it ever was, 6. Magnetic Fields - Charm of the Highway Strip, 7. Portishead - Dummy, 8. Guided by Voices - Bee Thousand, 9. Blur - Parklife, 10. Stereolab. With The Tragically Hip's Day for Night, Massive Attack, Pulp's His'n'Hers, Hole's Live Through Thisand Ween's Chocolate and Cheese bubbling under.
So an easy vote for St Et from the list, although I *ducks* prefer the 1996 re-release with "He's on the Phone", "American Records" and "Grovely Road", as incongruous as especially the first of those may be wrt the rest of the album. It helps that I'd never heard the original before buying the 1996 version.

Possible top 10:
1) Bark Psychosis - Hex2) Kyuss - Sky Valley3) Aphex Twin - SAW II4) Portishead - Dummy5) Mark Lanegan - Whiskey for the Holy Ghost6) Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime7) Jeff Buckley - Grace8) Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse9) Digable Planets - Blowout Comb10) Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon
And that's without Codeine, Mayhem, Shellac, CoC, Jawbox, Ali Farka Touré With Ry Cooder, Acid Bath, Disco Inferno, Nas, FSOL, Richard Buckner, Machine Head, The Obsessed. What a great year.

So an easy vote for St Et from the list, although I *ducks* prefer the 1996 re-release...You are not alone! That's the standard version in my head now. I had a tape dub of the original for years but procured the 1996 version after the big ILM StEt poll many years ago. It was popular around here at that time and I... succumbed to peer pressure.

I tried to listen to Snivilisation recently and couldn't get along with it except for Are We Here? which funny enough at the time I thought was one of those missing the point token d&b tracks by artists usually known for techno. There are some good mixes on the CD single.
Also gone right off the Hex mopeathon.
Amber is of its time but in a very good way. Can't think of anything I'd vote for ahead of that, except maybe Hootie.

Snivilization was my first Orbital album and I pretty much loved every bit of it from the jump. It was the first dance album I bought that felt like it was telling me a story as opposed to just flinging banger after banger at me.

I think I'm the same although I haven't listened to Snivilisation in a long time. In Sides was the first Orbital record I heard and I absolutely loved it so I worked backwards from there. Snivilisation definitely took some time getting into.
― Gavin, Leeds, Thursday, 25 July 2019 19:01 (four years ago) link
I mean, In Sides is one of the best albums ever recorded and Brown is brilliant back to front. It's not really knocking Snivilization to like those other two more.

For me it's In Sides > Sniv > Middle of Nowhere > Orbital 2 but I think they're all pretty close. Wonky is up there somewhere too.
Sniv was the first one I really loved though. For whatever reason "I Wish I Had Duck Feet" hit me in a way nothing else really has since. And the finale "Attached" still sounds like nothing else.
― frogbs, Thursday, 25 July 2019 19:20 (four years ago) link
Snivilization is definitely a listen at home on headphones album. When you see them live you prefer the bangers on the other albums. Which is exactly what you got on the insides tour. think they only played one tracks from Snivilization .Snivilization is definitely best listened to all the way through. So i imagine that tour may have been really good (but I bet everyone wanted the bangers from theearlir stuff, lol)
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 25 July 2019 20:50 (four years ago) link
Snivilisation isn't as good as Brown or In Sides, and got a little overpraised in the music press at the time. It's still very good though, obviously.
Voted for Bark Psychosis, just ahead of The Prodigy. 1994 was a strong year.
