It's tough but I had to go with In A Silent Way over Sly since you lot didn't vote for any Funkadelic.

My two favorite records are Exile and London Calling. Going with Exile but it's really a tossup.

lot of tremendous stuff here obv. but for me it's easily Fun House.

tusk, not even close
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 10 April 2019 19:59 (seven years ago)
I thought that would win the last poll but I was wrong. Will London Calling beat it again? Do ilxors really love the clash that much?
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 21:10 (seven years ago)
Clearly they do, even if I don't rate them highly.
― Le Baton Rose (Turrican), Wednesday, 10 April 2019 21:13 (seven years ago)
would love to see In a Silent Way win this but would be happy with any of them, there isn't one I dislike

which one will his fans silently vote for?
and will New Order win all the 80s polls that are forthcoming by Michael B?

still surprised by the popularity of bloated double LPs by bands whose earlier single LP work is imo far superior
― budo jeru, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 17:27 (seven years ago)
Does that apply to Exile, Tago Mago, London Calling or all 3?
― o. nate, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 17:48 (seven years ago)
tusk also
― budo jeru, Wednesday, 17 April 2019 22:00 (seven years ago)
i love "mother sky" as much as anyone but "soundtracks" is not better than "tago mago"
also, let's give ilm some credit for recognizing that "in a silent way" is the superior earlier single lp work
― Jaki Liebowitz (rushomancy), Thursday, 18 April 2019 00:45 (seven years ago)
"Mother Sky" is really good. Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, Future Days are all great albums
― Dan S, Thursday, 18 April 2019 01:02 (seven years ago)
^ i agree
xp rush i didn’t say immediately preceding ! but yeah jokes aside “tago mago” is an exception to my comment, it’s a really special record. the other three double LPs in the poll i like (but don’t love) to varying degrees and i do find them hard to listen to front to back
― budo jeru, Thursday, 18 April 2019 01:26 (seven years ago)
exile is awesome
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 18 April 2019 11:52 (seven years ago)
I agree Exile is awesome but I don’t think it’s crazy to maintain the Stones made marginally better and definitely more concise albums before it. That’s hard to maintain for Can and Tago Mago, mainly because it’s their first truly great album. I think it’s unusual for a band’s breakthrough album to be a double (in the sense of style not sales). London Calling is also great but I could see preferring the debut, though that’s always going to be a minority view. The conventional wisdom for many years was that Tusk was a sprawling mess and relative disappointment after Rumours, so that’s obviously not a crazy view even if it’s now fallen out of fashion . Nowadays I guess most people don’t think of albums as a commitment to a straight through listening experience but rather as a set of songs they can play individually as the mood strikes them which probably helps the reputation of sprawling albums.
― o. nate, Thursday, 18 April 2019 12:48 (seven years ago)
Sticky Fingers just beats out Exile for me and I definitely prefer the first Clash album to London Calling.
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 18 April 2019 12:49 (seven years ago)
"Monster Movie" is a great album btw.
― Do you like 70s hard rock with a guitar hero? (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 April 2019 14:14 (seven years ago)
(xp)
It’s not bad, but I think only a die hard Malcolm Mooney fan would prefer it to Tago Mago.
― o. nate, Thursday, 18 April 2019 14:18 (seven years ago)
Tom always prefers albums that aren't the popular choice.
― Thus Spoke Darraghustra (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 18 April 2019 16:04 (seven years ago)
I didn't say I preferred it I said it was great. I like everything on it which isn't true of every Can album by any means.
