(This is all a cunning ruse to votesplit everything)

The Breeders - Fortunately Gone (1:45)

Chris L, Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:21 (seven years ago)

I am a bit concerned about the results being dominated by minutemen, wire, and the ramones. and maybe TMBG. although maybe votesplitting may in fact solve that problem. Or maybe it's not a problem at all, and other songs be mixed in nicely? i dunno.

has there ever been a poll like this where you're only allowed to vote for 3 different tracks by the same artist? would that be weird?

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:27 (seven years ago)

i mean, i love wire with all my heart, but there's no way i'm going to list more than 3 wire songs in my list of the top 50 songs of all time under 2 minutes. no band is that good. but then again, i can see like 5 different people saying "fuck it" and putting double nickels on the dime as their top 20

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:28 (seven years ago)

Yeah, there's enough stuff where I don't think it's gonna be a problem. And if the top 20 ends up all Ramones and Chuck Berry, well, they deserve it for being so good at this!

There weren't any artist restrictions on the 10 minutes poll, but I definitely think that these handful of bands having so many songs nominated will definitely water down their placement.

Gaseous Clay (Leee), Thursday, 21 February 2019 19:04 (seven years ago)

^ if you haven’t heard it you should check out the jacques denjean track i nominated above

yeah pretty similar! bit more emotional development in the morricone though.

large bananas pregnant (ledge), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:15 (seven years ago)

ok i know i talked shit about "sabotage tracks" earlier but uhh if this farrah abraham song was intended to be that, it backfired, this is insane, i think i love this? what the fuck? this is SO FUCKING WEIRD

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boo'd Up" (Will M.), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:30 (seven years ago)

i am still recovering from listening to it last night. it's like it the rebecca black "friday" song got really experimental

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:32 (seven years ago)

What do you think of MTV Teen Mom Farrah Abraham's first single?

sold out in presale (sleeve), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:33 (seven years ago)

what i like about it is that it only takes like 20 minutes or so to listen to it 10 times

they're not booing you, sir, they're shouting "Boo'd Up" (Will M.), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:34 (seven years ago)

lol, i can't wait to read that thread later

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:35 (seven years ago)

i'm thinking i will maybe never listen to it ever again, because i didn't think it was bad...it was beyond bad or good, it's just way the hell out there, like an autotune eating itself

Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:35 (seven years ago)

my official prediction is that Elvis Costello is gonna dominate the Top 10

frogbs, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:37 (seven years ago)

dunno about that, he doesn't really have many songs this short, especially not fan favorites

sold out in presale (sleeve), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:39 (seven years ago)

afaik we were never really given a good explanation for this. it's still kind of an open mystery. every time I listen to it I think of this YouTube comment: "if Captain Beefheart made 808s & Heartbreak"

frogbs, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:39 (seven years ago)

xp - wait a minute...I thought "Beyond Belief" qualified but apparently it doesn't

frogbs, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:40 (seven years ago)

sold out in presale (sleeve), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:41 (seven years ago)

frogbs, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:48 (seven years ago)

likely my #1:

A Frames - Hostage Crisis (1:39)

One of those Grind/Power Violence songs that really goes places, instead of just splattering everywhere

Weekend Nachos - For Life (1:05)

eva logorrhea (bendy), Thursday, 21 February 2019 22:10 (seven years ago)

huh, that must be a different "A Frames" than the band I know from Seattle?

sold out in presale (sleeve), Thursday, 21 February 2019 22:17 (seven years ago)

No! The Seattle one!

eva logorrhea (bendy), Thursday, 21 February 2019 22:20 (seven years ago)

unless you were mistaking my Weekend Nachos hot take with the A Frames

eva logorrhea (bendy), Thursday, 21 February 2019 22:21 (seven years ago)

no I just couldn't find that song on Discogs!

"Radiation Generation" is my favorite of theirs but idk the track time and I used up all my noms on US hardcore tracks

Chris L, Thursday, 21 February 2019 23:10 (seven years ago)

Thoughts on ‘Henry’ by Rod Stewart aka the introduction to ‘Maggie May’ on ‘Every Picture Tells a Story’, it’s listed as a separate track on some pressings.

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 21 February 2019 23:11 (seven years ago)

Never knew that. Another oddity: even though it's always "Won't You Try/Saturday Afternoon" for Jefferson Airplane--I never see them listed separately--digitally, they're two separate songs (with "Won't You Try" just over a minute). That'd be on my list for sure, but I'll bypass it--I just don't think of it as a standalone.
