xposts fionnland that's very nice of you, but i'll be ok with the spotify list! it really doesn't take me too long to find them and drag/drop, and i take a strange satisfaction in repetitive processes (hard to explain but true)

Special mention for the Earache comp "The World's Shortest Album"
Also the entire "scum" field-recording grindcore genre*

*might not be a genre.

Man, it is not fair to this poll that the Ramones, Wire and the Minutemen were simply so good at this
Yes. Early Beatles and Buddy Holly too.

Also, I would def count myself as a Parquet Courts fan if all their songs were under 90 seconds

Maybe we don't have enough songs by those bands yet
― imago, Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:09 (five years ago) link
I think maybe some more Minutemen is on the menu
(This is all a cunning ruse to votesplit everything)

The Breeders - Fortunately Gone (1:45)
― Chris L, Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:21 (five years ago) link
I am a bit concerned about the results being dominated by minutemen, wire, and the ramones. and maybe TMBG. although maybe votesplitting may in fact solve that problem. Or maybe it's not a problem at all, and other songs be mixed in nicely? i dunno.
has there ever been a poll like this where you're only allowed to vote for 3 different tracks by the same artist? would that be weird?
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:27 (five years ago) link
i mean, i love wire with all my heart, but there's no way i'm going to list more than 3 wire songs in my list of the top 50 songs of all time under 2 minutes. no band is that good. but then again, i can see like 5 different people saying "fuck it" and putting double nickels on the dime as their top 20
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:28 (five years ago) link
Yeah, there's enough stuff where I don't think it's gonna be a problem. And if the top 20 ends up all Ramones and Chuck Berry, well, they deserve it for being so good at this!
― ebro the letter (Whiney G. Weingarten), Thursday, 21 February 2019 18:31 (five years ago) link
There weren't any artist restrictions on the 10 minutes poll, but I definitely think that these handful of bands having so many songs nominated will definitely water down their placement.

ok i know i talked shit about "sabotage tracks" earlier but uhh if this farrah abraham song was intended to be that, it backfired, this is insane, i think i love this? what the fuck? this is SO FUCKING WEIRD

― sold out in presale (sleeve), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:33 (five years ago) link
what i like about it is that it only takes like 20 minutes or so to listen to it 10 times

― Karl Malone, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:35 (five years ago) link
i'm thinking i will maybe never listen to it ever again, because i didn't think it was bad...it was beyond bad or good, it's just way the hell out there, like an autotune eating itself
my official prediction is that Elvis Costello is gonna dominate the Top 10
― frogbs, Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:37 (five years ago) link
dunno about that, he doesn't really have many songs this short, especially not fan favorites
― sold out in presale (sleeve), Thursday, 21 February 2019 20:39 (five years ago) link
afaik we were never really given a good explanation for this. it's still kind of an open mystery. every time I listen to it I think of this YouTube comment: "if Captain Beefheart made 808s & Heartbreak"
