I wish these LPs were less expensive to buy in the States. I love the Gaussian Curve and Gigi comp, a good deal of Outro Tempo, and that Dip in the Pool 12". A lot of the others I've heard go in one ear and out the other, but I very much like this label's aesthetic overall.
Did anyone pick up that Joan Bibiloni comp from a few years back? I'm in love this track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_I_EZ0jGik

What I have heard of from the Garrett LP on Music From Memory is dee-lish. (Garrett AKA Dam-Funk.)
― henry s, Thursday, 1 February 2018 21:34 (eight years ago)
These guys put out great stuff, was just listening to snippets of the Kuniyuki album earlier today. The Vito Ricci comp they put out is also great and hasn't been mentioned yet. Also looking forward to the upcoming "Uneven Paths" comp referenced upthread, as well as the one collecting ambient tracks by Terekke.

where do US ilxors order Music From Memory vinyl? I bought the last few on Discogs, but shipping rates are getting ridiculous
― Paul Ponzi, Wednesday, 21 February 2018 15:19 (eight years ago)
That does look awesome. Walhalla records from Belgium released two great (well, I only have vol. 2) compilations of Belgian new wave/synth acts from cassette releases.
On topic, apart from the already mentioned Outro-Tempo and Gaussian Curve records I have/love the Denis Mpunga & Paul K. (Congolese/Belgian percussion/synth collab) and Dub Oven (Californian synth/funk/punk) EP's. Basically I check every MfM release my local record shop gets in...

I recommend the Geoffrey Landers compilation they put out. "Say You'll Say So" got me hooked.

I had been aware of it more or less from the beginning cuz I was living in Amsterdam and had some friends would DJ for Redlight Radio and buy stuff from Redlight Records, but really only paid full attention after this profile on Tako in RA - https://www.residentadvisor.net/features/2530 Gives a decent impression of the 00s crate-digger spirit in Europe, especially after Discogs. It's actually a bit crazy how many of those records have now been re-released even since the feature!
In general, MFM strike me as best case defense of retromania.

There's a good trick with Spotify, you can actually search by label.
If you enter - label:"music from memory" - into the search bar, you should get all the results. Not sure why they don't improve functionality like this tbh.

Gonna just drop a reference to this reissue comp here, fits into the Redlight Radio DJ set zone of Tako, Jamie Tiller or guys like Hunee over the past few years - not sure if it's the right thread for it, but anyway...
Gumba Fire: Bubblegum Soul & Synth Boogie In 1980s South Africa - seriously great, sorta MFM parallel.

There is a definite axis, isn't there? Stuff that maybe five years ago would have simply been "balearic" but now its too dark and un-pop to align easily. Music from Africa and South America and Asia that's technically reissues but feels new to the world, and stuff that feels like reissues but is actually contemporary. The kind of thing you feel constantly behind the curve on. Growing Bin, Listen To This, WRWTFWW, whoever. Its a broad realm but it feels niche in its remit, "rolling wormhole" might be the best description?

Not MfM but also in the same demographic - this reissued album of baroque Danish synthpop by Suzanne Menzel I've been enjoying this week. Some of it is a little eyebrow-raising but fans of weird 80s pop and Julia Holter should investigate

this is great, thanks. i like it more than the mlo reissue tbh!
― she freaks, she speaks (map), Tuesday, 30 September 2025 20:27 (eight months ago)
only thing i'm not loving is this inspirational context:
Side one of the album was created at a time when Tye had been exploring ideas around artificial intelligence, delving into books such as ‘The Physics Of Immortality’ by Frank J. Tippler, ‘Novacene’ by James Lovelock, and ’12 Bytes’ by Jeanette Winterson, seeking an alternative to the prevalent, negative views of AI. He was also inspired by the Buddhist perspective of AI as an integral part of consciousness evolution, as evidenced by the creation of a Buddhist robot that preaches in the Kodaiji Temple in Kyoto.
but it's not like you can hear that in the music really.
― she freaks, she speaks (map), Tuesday, 30 September 2025 20:34 (eight months ago)
lol, yeah i did read something to that effect, but yeah, didn't notice it in the music. maybe he got ai to come up with this blurb of stuff he can say inspired the record.
