Sunday morning in my part of the world (and i suspect in most parts of the western world but i might be wrong) is the time where quietitude roolz most.

What sort of things do you listen to?

I've been listening to Morton Feldman's 'Crippled symmetry' and its perfect.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 23 March 2003 10:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Morton Feldman! yes! Now i have no drug dealing neighbours who like to yell, no piano studnets next door. yes Morton feldman. Next sunday, of course.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 23 March 2003 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

the morning isn't over yet (11 am as I post). if you live in the UK put some on now.

but I started at 8 am this morning. the sound just 'mesh' in with with the the v quiet morning (no sound of cars or ppl or shouting actually where i live so I can put something like this on and need no headphones).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 23 March 2003 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Charles Mingus or early Bob Dylan for the NYC vibe.

S Samson, Sunday, 23 March 2003 11:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I always confuse Morton Feldman with Morton Subotnick. How's that for being elitist and stoopid at the same time

dave q, Sunday, 23 March 2003 12:10 (twenty-three years ago)

How about the obvious; the Velvet Underground's Sunday Morning?
Or alternatively: Liberator by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, which has a cover of Sunday Morning on it.

Tijn, Sunday, 23 March 2003 12:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Blur 'Sunday Sunday'
Vanessa Paradis 'Sunday Mondays' (or is that Bank Holiday Monday music?)
Finley Quaye 'Sunday Shining'
anything by The Sundays

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 23 March 2003 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

bah, too late for morning music f'me: it's noon-to-afternoon time in my continuum. but i was a-gonna listen to some Barbara Morgenstern anyway.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Sunday, 23 March 2003 12:48 (twenty-three years ago)

The perfect record here is Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down, written by Kris Kristofferson. I think the original is by Johnny Cash, but I prefer the Willie Nelson version, partly because he is a more plausible dope smoker, and partly because I prefer his voice.

I woke up Sunday mornin' with no way to hold my head that it didn't hurt
The beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, so I had one more for dessert
I stumbled to my closet for my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 23 March 2003 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

sogar - stengel for me. it's hard to go wrong w/ feldman (at least from his stuff that i'm familiar w/)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Sunday, 23 March 2003 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The lead-off track to Astral Weeks. I always love listening to it if I'm up early as the sun is rising and I have the house to myself.

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Sunday, 23 March 2003 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I clean the house every Sunday morning.. I'm listening to Lawrence in preparation..

Adam A. (Keiko), Sunday, 23 March 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't like to listen to quiet music early in the music, because I have enough trouble getting going in the morning as it is. I keep the volume down, so I don't disturb anyone, but if I were by myself, I would crank it up. This morning I listened to Chocolate Synthesizer, which I just bought yesterday (along with Super ae, which is great on first listen). Now I'm listening to the Beatles because I'm thinking about which albums I want to loan my SO, who is largely oblivious to them and a lot younger than me, and without the benefit of an older sibling to introduce her to the most canonical of canonical bands.

Rockist Scientist, Sunday, 23 March 2003 16:31 (twenty-three years ago)

American Beauty ownz Sunday morning, unless you are a hippiephobe.

the best woozy sunday morning song is chemical brothers w/beth orton, 'where do i begin.' besides the obvious line about sunday morning, it has a nice sunrise, relaxing vibe i find soothing.

your null fame (yournullfame), Sunday, 23 March 2003 18:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. That one-two punch of 'In A Sentimental Mood' and 'Take The Coltrane' usually mirrors my waking up process perfectly.

Dave M. (rotten03), Sunday, 23 March 2003 19:04 (twenty-three years ago)

Usually stuff like Bon Jovi or Sum41.

i listen to the melvins bullhead and fuck my girlfriend then go back to sleep. then wake up again, put on ozma and fuck my girlfriend again. then i will get up if i actually have something to do, but this is rare, so i go back to sleep, then again wake up, put on a random old scorpions album, say blackout, very loudly so i can hear it while i'm in the shower and i screw my girlfriend again while i'm showering.

Depends what you're doing. If you're walking to the gym and it's unseasonally cool and quiet, the above are awes.

Autumn Almanac, Monday, 21 January 2008 00:06 (eighteen years ago)

Alright. Maybe. But, if the Kings of Convenience are playing, and you're fighting off a hangover by eating brunch in a cafe that has soyaccinos or similar, with local colorfield-style prints on the walls, you still might want to kill yourself.

aztec camera ― dreamland

the older i get with this album, the more i'm compelled to believe it was made to be listened to specifically on sundays. yeah, play it anytime. but if you really want it to work, it's gotta be a sunday.

Imagine Dragons. Loudly. Then for breakfast 5 uncooked eggs, shell included because it has calcium.

I don’t remember how it developed but our Sunday morning go-to is bossa nova and other vintage Brazilian pop. Astrud Gilberto in particular but not exclusively. Just fits that Sunday morning brunchy vibe to me.
