Looking at his albums and my my, Tricky has some terrible album covers. I think only MA are interesting media-wise, cool videos, cool artwork. Portishead are also very dull in their imagery but Tricky just has bad taste.

I uh like PMT's artwork.

I'm down for running a NIN poll soon, but at this point I'd be much more excited to run a Bristol trip-hop one as described. Would it be incredibly poor form to switch subjects?

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Saturday, 17 September 2016 16:43 (nine years ago)

I'd vastly prefer a trip-hop to a NIN poll. Go for it, chap!

it's the distortion, stupid! (alex in mainhattan), Saturday, 17 September 2016 17:55 (nine years ago)

Ditto!

LET'S GET IT ON! It's the ~~~ 1970s SOUL ALBUMS POLL ~~~ NOMINATIONS AND CAMPAIGNING THREAD

ArchCarrier, Saturday, 17 September 2016 19:55 (nine years ago)

I'd really, really like to do a jungle/drum 'n bass poll. Any interest in that?

Le Bateau Ivre, Saturday, 17 September 2016 20:16 (nine years ago)

I'd really, really like to do a jungle/drum 'n bass poll. Any interest in that?

― Le Bateau Ivre,

YES. Especially if some hardcore was allowed as well.

chap, Sunday, 18 September 2016 02:15 (nine years ago)

I'd totally vote in that! And yeah hardcore/jungle/drum'n'bass (but not later variations like dubstep) would be a proper way to poll it.

Tuomas, Monday, 19 September 2016 06:49 (nine years ago)

I agree. There's no denying things were crossing over like that. Dubstep though, nah.

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 19 September 2016 10:11 (nine years ago)

A dubstep and emergent genres could be cool too, maybe a bit tricky to define though.

chap, Monday, 19 September 2016 11:47 (nine years ago)

*dubstep and emergent genres poll

Hot damn! Everybody let's play the GEORGE MICHAEL TRACKS POLL results thread

Jeff W, Tuesday, 20 September 2016 19:09 (nine years ago)

So are we just ignoring the list now? Is that how it's going to be? You people are iconoclasts! Mockers of institutions. It's not right goddamnit. I've been waiting for years...YEARS to run my covers poll.

kornrulez6969, Wednesday, 21 September 2016 02:50 (nine years ago)

yes!

simmel, Thursday, 22 September 2016 18:02 (nine years ago)

Bravo to Bee OK for reconsolidating the list - things were getting a little floppy and confusing there.

So, first-ish call for the following folks: Moka, gr8080, Gukbe, Billy Dods, some dude, NickB, C. Grisso/McCain, Raymond Cummings and sleeve - think you'll be in a good spot to tackle your upcoming polls? Any of you in a good spot in the next few weeks, in case the first couple people can't do theirs just yet?

Silence, followed by unintelligible stammering. (Doctor Casino), Thursday, 22 September 2016 18:22 (nine years ago)

I can do it. when do you need me?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 22 September 2016 18:28 (nine years ago)

Looks like Ismael Klata just wrapped George Michael results yesterday, so the pitcher's mound is open if you're ready to play ball...!

Silence, followed by unintelligible stammering. (Doctor Casino), Friday, 23 September 2016 23:42 (nine years ago)

Considering the spirit of ilm is less participatory now than a few years ago, and TMBG was always going to be a niche poll anyway, you may as well drop me off the list for that one next time you revise it.

i will do it this way, so it's here: ILM Artist Poll No. 80 · Iggy & The Stooges · Voting Thread-End 11/01/16

Bee OK, Saturday, 24 September 2016 01:19 (nine years ago)

i would not say things are slowing down, the Smiths tied for the most ballots ever and that was this year. i just think it depends on the poll or artist so i hope you end up not bailing on They Might Be Giants. i'm pretty sure my Talking Heads poll will be really, really popular.

xpost to Johnny Fever

Bee OK, Saturday, 24 September 2016 01:21 (nine years ago)

could I request Robyn Hitchcock?

campreverb, Saturday, 24 September 2016 15:27 (nine years ago)

JF, sorry to hear you feel that way! I don't think of ILM as less participatory, though maybe a little less...frantic? Idk. I was looking forward to your TMBG poll, so naturally I hope you reconsider.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 24 September 2016 15:56 (nine years ago)

Requesting a voting extension for the Stooges poll so it's two weeks instead of one. Yay or nay?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 24 September 2016 17:59 (nine years ago)

i think two weeks would be fine, it would give me more time too.

Bee OK, Saturday, 24 September 2016 18:32 (nine years ago)

Ok! If I'm stepping on someone else please let me know.

You have about 24 hours left to vote for your favorite 70's soul albums, so

DO IT NOW!

ArchCarrier, Sunday, 16 October 2016 05:28 (nine years ago)

PEOPLE... HOLD ON. It's the ~~~ ILM 1970s SOUL/FUNK/DISCO ALBUMS POLL ~~~ results thread!

ArchCarrier, Monday, 17 October 2016 11:06 (nine years ago)

bump, bum-pity, bump. anyone willing to open a new poll? the Shoegazer poll is real tempting after the Pitchfork list but i can't do that right now. if anyone wants to take the ball and run with that one i would be fine with that. otherwise i have not done a big artist poll like that and will do it next summer if no-one steps up now.

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 October 2016 00:44 (nine years ago)

will still do Talking Heads in Feb of 2017...

Bee OK, Thursday, 27 October 2016 00:44 (nine years ago)

Le Bateau Ivre, Thursday, 27 October 2016 09:14 (nine years ago)

no-one else seems to be stepping up, so go for it. should be a blast!

Bee OK, Friday, 28 October 2016 01:22 (nine years ago)

All right! I will arrange this and open a nomination thread early next week!!

Le Bateau Ivre, Friday, 28 October 2016 10:24 (nine years ago)

For the soul albums poll I wrote an AutoHotkey script (so Windows only) that imports a folder of ballots and automatically generates the final list. No more manual spreadsheet labor.

If there's any interest, I can post the script somewhere.

ArchCarrier, Friday, 28 October 2016 11:04 (nine years ago)

That worked well. What's involved implementing it? As someone who knows dick all about scripts and stuff, what environment do you even run it in?

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 28 October 2016 12:16 (nine years ago)

(watching a Youtube tutorial rn)

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 28 October 2016 12:21 (nine years ago)

That'd be great ArchCarrier! I'll try and figure out how to use that asap
