abbey road is an album that totally only becomes any good at "she's so heavy" and then remains very good for the remainder

Stop relegating Hull you miserable gits! (country matters), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:01 (seventeen years ago)

I think we would all agree that.

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:02 (seventeen years ago)

No we wouldn't

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:03 (seventeen years ago)

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:04 (seventeen years ago)

I'm surprised there's never been a "best Come Together" poll.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:05 (seventeen years ago)

"Come Together" is the song that made me start hating Primal Scream. - if that is when you started hating them, does that mean you preferred the leather chaps & cowboy hats phase?

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

xxp actually can we not?

zero learnt from nero (Neil S), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:06 (seventeen years ago)

It's the "Come Together" Arena Thread!!!

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:09 (seventeen years ago)

I forgot MC5's "Come Together"!!!!

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:10 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah me too til I read that thread. Still Spiritualized though, with MC5 second.

nate woolls, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

That means I liked "Loaded" a hell of a lot and was blindsided by how much I despised "Come Together". (I refused to listen to them for a long time after hearing "CT", which is why I didn't discover how great "Slip Inside This House" was until years after the fact.)

the call of the taint (HI DERE), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:11 (seventeen years ago)

I'm sure the Bobster didn't forget the MC5 version...

Sacco, Vanzetti, Passantino... (Tom D.), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

wot no Hixxy ;_;

Stop relegating Hull you miserable gits! (country matters), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

"Slip Inside This House" is 2nd-choice for me

Stop relegating Hull you miserable gits! (country matters), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

if you compress this album to one song the end result can only be "come together".

alex in mainhattan, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:12 (seventeen years ago)

"Come Together" sounded fucking perfect when I teenager, full of optimism & on drugs. These days, not so much. Loaded holds up, though.

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 16:19 (seventeen years ago)

i'm beautiful, i wasn't born to follow
i live just for today, don't care about tomorrow
what i got in my head you can't buy steal or borrow
i believe in live and let live
i believe you get what you give

no question, no contest. best song they ever did.

rentboy, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

those are some horrible lyrics

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

oh they're so hilariously TRIPPY MAN

it's got early 90s peas luv and xtacy self-importance stamped all over it

how can you not love it

rentboy, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

Who's a worse lyricist: Bono or Bobby Gillespie?

2 ears + 1 ❤ (Pillbox), Tuesday, 24 March 2009 18:19 (seventeen years ago)

Mine is the only vote for 'Inner Flight'? And I'm not even a Beach Boys-fanatic.

zeus, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

No option for "unbelievably shitty, self-important, over-rated album" = no vote from me.

Pashmina, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 21:59 (seventeen years ago)

Multi-X-Post: "Come Together" is a bad song by a great band.

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 24 March 2009 23:15 (seventeen years ago)

Are we talking about the "Come Together" with the Jesse Jackson sample that starts out "This is a beautiful day. It is a new day..." OR are we talking about the one that goes "Kiss me, won't you won't you kiss me... lift me right out of this world." I prefer the former, even though it sounds like an absolutely amazing beginning to a song that you expect to start rocking but it never really gets there and ten minutes later it ends.

Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 02:07 (seventeen years ago)

Give me XTRMNTR any day.

Actually I am talking about the "Come Together" that starts with "Here come old flat top He come groovin' up slowly" :)

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

DFIFI FTW

Kings of Tedium (SeekAltRoute), Wednesday, 25 March 2009 03:01 (seventeen years ago)

a song that you expect to start rocking but it never really gets there

that is the brilliance of it. it is like an orgasm postponed for ten minutes. and then it doesn't come!

alex in mainhattan, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 10:19 (seventeen years ago)

worst orgasm ever

unaustralian (jabba hands), Wednesday, 25 March 2009 10:24 (seventeen years ago)

ah, but the next day....

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 March 2009 10:28 (seventeen years ago)

You feel a bit used?

Sickamous Mouthall (Scik Mouthy), Wednesday, 25 March 2009 10:51 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 29 March 2009 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

COME TOGETHER!!!

ilxor, Monday, 30 March 2009 05:05 (seventeen years ago)

even though i sometimes don't acknowledge individual tracks when i play this album through, 'slip inside this house' is the definite winner for me.

Charlie Howard, Monday, 30 March 2009 05:14 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Monday, 30 March 2009 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

Zayatte Mondatta (country matters), Monday, 30 March 2009 23:05 (seventeen years ago)

How the fuck did "Loaded" place so low?? I love that song.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 30 March 2009 23:06 (seventeen years ago)

Let's party then!

alex in mainhattan, Monday, 30 March 2009 23:09 (seventeen years ago)

That might be the best sample in any song ever.

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 30 March 2009 23:18 (seventeen years ago)

How the fuck did "Loaded" place so low??

Too many great songs!

ilxor, Monday, 30 March 2009 23:42 (seventeen years ago)

I completely missed this, give +1 for Loaded

lil waynes babymama (musically), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 00:57 (seventeen years ago)

Guys, "Higher than the sun" is higher as a sum!

Mark G, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 06:51 (seventeen years ago)

rubbish lyrics and everything, but im surprised 'im coming down' got naaathing. prefer it to damaged any day.

FREE DOM AND ETHAN (special guest stars mark bronson), Tuesday, 31 March 2009 12:45 (seventeen years ago)

It just hit me how much melody Country Girl takes from Damaged

lil waynes babymama (musically), Monday, 6 April 2009 22:09 (seventeen years ago)

Come Together 13

srsly, what is wrong with you ppl

maybe u should tell that to your laughing vagina (HI DERE), Monday, 6 April 2009 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

seven months pass...

If she can be believed, she's as excited to hang out as I am. Plus I can hear that amplified Kenyan preacher about 75 meters away. "Come Together" seems like the right choice here. And ... yes.

This part of the sentence is even dumber. (lukas), Friday, 20 November 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

Seriously having a breakthrough with this album here, after years of listening to it.

This part of the sentence is even dumber. (lukas), Friday, 20 November 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)

there are some cool sounds here but it doesn't hang together really does it?

I thought this when it was first released, and still do. IIRC, it was largely cobbled together from various sources to capitalise on the success of "Loaded", rather than being planned as an album.

mahb, Monday, 14 June 2021 11:09 (five years ago)

That's why I've always preferred Morning Dove White to Screamadelica. Both seriously good albums, but the former feels more cohesive, and gives a glimpse of what the latter could have been if Weatherall was more involved.
