If you've got a third or fourth or fifty-seventh nominee for empty-headed sloganeer of the century, toss 'em out there. Choice lyrical nuggets are always welcome too, of course.

Gashcroft is worse than either.

Of the two Bono - never paid much attention to either band, but the shitness of U2's words have leapt out of the radio and smacked me in the face more often.

Wow, that's pretty darn close, but once upon a time, Gillespie was actually capable of writing something as beautiful as Higher Than The Sun, so, erm, Bono, by a nose.

gillespie is at least unpretentious. - he doesn't strike the messianic pose that Bono does, but Bono, at least, backs up his self-imposed political import with actual humanitarian work, whereas Bobby's Chomsky-via-No Logo soapbox seems, in retrospect, even more shtick-like than it did in the early 00s. I guess that doesn't make Gillespie more pretentious, per se, but there's no denying the man's contrivances of personality.

I'll take Primal Scream at their best over U2 at their best any day of the week, but not for the lyrics. God, not for the lyrics..

Without realizing it at the time, the best part of plunking down the import-level $$ for Primal Scream's Live In Japan was getting the complete lyric sheet.

Based on "Star" BBBY wins. Bono has written some right shit, but nothing as bad as that.

Both have had few and far between moments of transcendence, peppered into otherwise embarrassing lyrical careers.

Most of Bobby's best lines are nicked from other bands.
