I agree that 10 minutes should be the absolute minimum length for the epic poll, otherwise you could just nominate a whole bunch of normal, not-particularly-epic techno/jazz/prog/etc tunes. Though I'm fine with a 15 minute minimum too.

What is eligible only determines one end of what gets voted for. People also have to decide whether a track counts as "epic".

you could always allow epic rock tracks under 10 mins but make techno/jazz etc be over 15 I suppose. Obviously jazz and techno has a huge advantage otherwise.

so you guys had a whole thread to argue about what was being polled and that turned out so badly you had to make a second one?

It was fine mostly, I just want to get rid of one sticking point and don't have mod privileges to change the top most and this was the most visible way to let people know.

The no classical rule was there mostly because I didn't want to listen or deal with Xenakis. Sigh.

Have we ever had a ballot with more than 20 entries? How are the points distributed for, say, a 50-item ballot?

it's not complicated you just adjust the points scale (no. 1 gets 50 points, no. 50 gets 1 point, etc.)

this is why you lay out how you're going to assign points at the outset, and how long a ballot you will accept
