my introduction to spacemen 3, so it has a very special place in my heart. didn't make my Top 5.

high smashingness bar set early in terms of the graphics wise

should be an "i love rugby" board for that font

so what are people opinions on this one? what is the better side Sonic's or J. Spaceman? i remember at the time i liked Jason's better, do wonder if that would be different today?

of the original, 10-track LP/cassette sequence, i prefer side 1 (sonic), though really just for the first 3 tracks. disappointing album overall.

this album is pretty amazing and i still shake my head that this is a debut album. impressive start.

Both the Friendly Fire and Blue On Blue bootlegs are a great window into just how much work went into LGM.

it is yeah, but it's also my favorite track from the band's final days (though i fucked up its position on my ballot o well). might like the noise rockin' S3 best of all: "OD catastrophe", "2:35", "rollercoaster", "revolution", "suicide", "when tomorrow hits".

I didn't vote for any of the top five! (LICD, Pure Phase, Highs Lows and Heavenly Blows, Sound of Confusion, Koner Experiment)

it's the best SPZ album!

I was the #1 vote for Recurring, Just ahead of Lazer Guided melodies, glad to see it place in the top 5. Love the breadth of styles on it; Sonic at his most pop-friendly, Jason basically making murky sketches of musical ideas that would fully fleshed out on LGM.

Also glad to see Perfect Prescription get #1. It's the best representation of the Pierce/Sonic partnership, seeing as they had already stopped talking to each by the time Playing with Fire was recorded.

so i just noticed that i only submitted a Albums ballot. i had a Tracks ballot that i did make out but never did send it off.

More on the Rugby font. I used that to do a t-shirt for my son, changing the Take Me To The Other Side image to have his name on it in place of "Spacemen" and "side" to "slide." Anyway, went to have it professionally printed for fun, and they wouldn't do it without consent from the copyright holder. I emailed Sonic via his website, and got a very fast, very nice reply granting permission. The t-shirt turned out great. So thanks!

it's not that stuff I don't like is showing up or something (all these songs are good to varying degrees) just that I had no idea anyone would rate Shine a Light as number 1, for example. or that Feel So Good was some kind of standout track.

TBF, when LGM was first released "Shine A Light" (especially live) was the stand-out track for me.

I think "Medication" was my highest-ranked Spiritualized track. I think the original single (with the Peel of "Feel So Sad") is their best release.

My rationale for putting Shine a Light number one is that it's...pretty great? The build up to the freak out in the end is very satisfying, the best Jason has ever pulled that approach off in his many attempts in Spiritualized.

I'm sort of surprised that Mary-Anne didn't do better. The live version off of Performance was my favorite song of theirs for a very long time. And Walkin With Jesus always stuck out as a little too poppy. Oh well.

Strange results though -- two-thirds of the #1 votes were for songs that finished outside the top ten. OTOH, there's a sizeable increase in the total number of voters for everything in the top five, so it's hard to claim that there wasn't a clear consensus in the results.

Pretty sure we need more than 20 votes to get any kind of consensus, but I do like that there is a variety of #1 votes.
