How's it gonna go, noms and votes or just votes?

Mark G, Monday, 9 February 2015 04:00 (eleven years ago)

Definitely noms. What's a fair number: 20 per poster? (I really want to work 20 into this poll.)

La musica si muove appena: The ILM ITALO Poll (Results Thread)

daavid, Monday, 9 February 2015 14:25 (eleven years ago)

67. Emo/Screamo/Mallcore/(post)Hardcore - Mordy
68. Creedence Clearwater Revival - crüt
69. Hard Rock/Hair Metal - how’s life
70. Extreme Metal - Viceroy
71. Stephin Merritt - Gukbe
72. Metallica - Pleasant Plains

What would be the thinking of moving the Metallica poll up a few spots to give some breathing room between it and those generic metal polls?

pplains, Monday, 9 February 2015 15:08 (eleven years ago)

15 minutes seems too long if you're going to have anything besides prog and jazz. Not being able to vote for Marquee Moon is just wrong.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 9 February 2015 15:50 (eleven years ago)

maybe instead of voting for specific tracks we can just spend three weeks nominating and voting for what set of conditions make an "epic"

gr8080, Monday, 9 February 2015 15:51 (eleven years ago)

The metal polls gives everyone a chance to have a break.

Good idea. I say 8:00 is long enough to count as an epic. Let's take a month to discuss.

kornrulez6969, Monday, 9 February 2015 16:18 (eleven years ago)

If the bottom line is 10 minutes, I guess I'll just have to vote for "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" multiple times.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 February 2015 16:21 (eleven years ago)

Lots of rock epics are around the 7 min mark though.

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)

which is what I assume jf was getting at

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)

maggot brain isnt even 10 mins

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

it'd be criminal to exclude all the 23-second epics

example (crüt), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:28 (eleven years ago)

I've got plenty of backup Phish jams in the 12 min+ range.

how's life, Monday, 9 February 2015 16:31 (eleven years ago)

none of these examples are more epic than wreck of the edmund fitzgerald (6:32), but 10:00 seems pretty reasonable

mookieproof, Monday, 9 February 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

crut otm His fave grindcore tracks are over a minute long and in grindcore terms thats an epic

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 9 February 2015 17:16 (eleven years ago)

maggot brain isnt even 10 mins

Bardo Pond's cover is!

Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 9 February 2015 17:51 (eleven years ago)

Or 21 minutes but who's counting.

Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 9 February 2015 17:51 (eleven years ago)

personally I wish Leee was sticking with a 15-minute minimum

sleeve, Monday, 9 February 2015 17:56 (eleven years ago)

i think leee should decide whatever the fuck he wants to do even if it means only bardo pond and autechre tracks are available to vote for

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 9 February 2015 18:26 (eleven years ago)

I have to say ... I sorta hate these polls where the majority of the discussion centers around what is actually being polled

Οὖτις, Monday, 9 February 2015 18:30 (eleven years ago)

OK poll's cancelled.

Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 9 February 2015 18:41 (eleven years ago)

epic post

gr8080, Monday, 9 February 2015 18:52 (eleven years ago)

epic 10-minute long post

Hollinger Escape Plan (Leee), Monday, 9 February 2015 18:54 (eleven years ago)

lol

Οὖτις, Monday, 9 February 2015 18:56 (eleven years ago)

please, do whatever you want!
i was just offering my solicited 2 cents as a voter and epic enthusiast

groundless round (La Lechera), Monday, 9 February 2015 18:58 (eleven years ago)

I agree that 10 minutes should be the absolute minimum length for the epic poll, otherwise you could just nominate a whole bunch of normal, not-particularly-epic techno/jazz/prog/etc tunes. Though I'm fine with a 15 minute minimum too.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 11:21 (eleven years ago)

Marquee Moon, 12" version = 9:58

Latest version off CD = 10:47

I'm OK with ten minutes. That's a good place for that dude to wave a winning flag.

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 11:34 (eleven years ago)

What is eligible only determines one end of what gets voted for. People also have to decide whether a track counts as "epic".

⊤ℝolliℵg M∃th H∑a∂ (seandalai), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 11:57 (eleven years ago)

At this rate the only qualified track will be "And you and I" Yes!

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 12:01 (eleven years ago)

Is there a limit to number of Fela songs we can vote for?

quan voice (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 14:13 (eleven years ago)

*the number

quan voice (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 14:13 (eleven years ago)

― Tuomas,

you could always allow epic rock tracks under 10 mins but make techno/jazz etc be over 15 I suppose. Obviously jazz and techno has a huge advantage otherwise.

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:38 (eleven years ago)

lol

example (crüt), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:41 (eleven years ago)

more eligible tracks != an advantage

⊤ℝolliℵg M∃th H∑a∂ (seandalai), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:49 (eleven years ago)

20

saer, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:52 (eleven years ago)

also we don't really need to have an argument about what constitutes rock/techno/jazz on top of everything else

example (crüt), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:53 (eleven years ago)

How about making the limit after the best known longest rock track so no rock gets in?
Tuomas otm

The Ghost of (strychnine), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:54 (eleven years ago)

Just make it 60 mins and we can declare Boris - Absolutego and Corrupted - El Mundo Frio the winners now.

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:56 (eleven years ago)

big ups to my mans Morton Feldman

example (crüt), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)

with BT in 3rd place

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)

oh wait nm no classical

example (crüt), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)

jfc just let everyone vote for whatever they want and see what happens. that will make for the most interesting set of results anyway.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 16:00 (eleven years ago)

does terry riley count as 'classical'?

let me be your fan taytay (NickB), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 16:01 (eleven years ago)

of course

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 16:03 (eleven years ago)

if its just a poll on unusually long tracks then perhaps it should be 20+ mins

Eric Burdon & War, On Drugs (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 16:10 (eleven years ago)

Is there a top limit? (asked The Flaming Lips...)

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 February 2015 16:12 (eleven years ago)

the minimum & maximum is 4:20

example (crüt), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 16:13 (eleven years ago)

Uh, do live versions count?
