The results thread is finally here!

This took forever. Sorry for the delays and thank you for your patience. Thanks to all of you who voted. But most importantly, big thanks to gr8080 for the incredible artwork. I can't wait for everyone to see it!

We got 30 ballots and a total of 231 songs got at least one vote. We used total no of votes and/or total no. of first place votes to break some ties. This will be a top 50 list.

And now, without further ado...

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 February 2015 14:25 (two years ago) Permalink

I'll be back in an hour or so.

FYI, I still don't know how the rollout is going to happen but if I have enough time I'll to 20 today, 20 tomorrow, and 10 on Wednesday… otherwise it'll be 10 per day. Suggestions welcome.

I can post youtube links but I'm at work and cannot check the audio quality, so it'll be the first result that comes up. I can make sure tomorrow's entries work though.

daavid, Monday, 9 February 2015 15:08 (two years ago) Permalink

BTW, can someone remind me how do I post youtube links without embedding?

daavid, Monday, 9 February 2015 16:13 (two years ago) Permalink

I've always felt "I Like Chopin" is a little corny but the synth riff in the intro is one of my favorite things ever! In fact, the whole intro on the extended version is kind of amazing.

<3

was about to let loose the biggest TOO LOW of all time there before i realised it was Eyes. good track regardless, this is all so aesthetically and aurally pleasing so fr as expected.

ewar woowar (or something), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:39 (two years ago) Permalink

yeah this isn't the Clio I voted for but tbh it's probably the better track

example (crüt), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:40 (two years ago) Permalink

I voted 'Faces', both are good but the whole is better than the part.

emil.y, Monday, 9 February 2015 16:42 (two years ago) Permalink

nah crut, you were right first time.

ewar woowar (or something), Monday, 9 February 2015 16:43 (two years ago) Permalink

Eyes is an awesome track and only just missed out on my ballot.

I'm not a big fan of Dhuo - Walkin' tbh it's a bit plodding and feels more like bad synthpop than exciting Italo.

Siegbran, Monday, 9 February 2015 16:49 (two years ago) Permalink

Up next is my favorite track so far…

Siegbran, Monday, 9 February 2015 17:14 (two years ago) Permalink

Nothing I voted for has turned up yet but still <3 everything so far. Never really heard the much vaunted new order italo influence but they must have heard Dancing Therapy before making Bizarre Love Triangle.

ewar woowar (or something), Monday, 9 February 2015 17:28 (two years ago) Permalink

'Eyes' is great but yeah I voted for 'Faces' instead.

I remember seeking 'I Like Chopin' out after reading the Pet Shop Boys saying it inspired the sound of 'Rent'.

Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 9 February 2015 17:38 (two years ago) Permalink

excited for this poll!

never heard this dhuo track before, 'snice - i'm a fan of lower-bpm italo (under the ice, comanchero, etc)

<3 dancing therapy but i didn't vote for it

In the last version of our Mirage radio show I decided to take a late 90s techno approach to Italo (with a bit of other disco) and play about 15 tunes in about half an hour from about 55 minutes in. https://www.mixcloud.com/MirageRadio/mirage-radio-6th-august-the-one-where-matt-did-89-80-in-30-minutes/

Very fine tune ^ Like the video too.

Here’s the latest Mirage radio show we did. Mainly italo with a sprinkling of other pieces, some of the tracks sound a bit distorted for the first half an hour because of a dodgy deck which we managed to change over after some faffing around. https://www.mixcloud.com/MirageRadio/mirage-radio-03-sept-falling-in-love-with-this-crazy-family/

'Pagaia' by Tony Esposito -

This just popped up in my Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify. I dunno if this is exactly the right place for it as it lacks a lot of the common elements that you might expect from Italo Disco but it's 80s and it's Italian and goddamn! it's SO FUCKING GOOD and I needed to post it somewhere

The thing I still keep finding after 3 years of seriously buying italo is that among all the expensive records I can still discover gems for a couple of pounds.

Here's the last show HP Sorcery and I recorded live on 1 Brighton FM https://www.mixcloud.com/MirageRadio/radio-mirage-3rd-december-where-is-your-harbour/

Not a Casio RZ-1 (I used to have one of those). That machine didn't come out until about 1986 and this says 1983 on the label. It sounds to me like an Oberheim, either a DX or DMX.
