more a Brit nu-metal/emo and bloody awful at that, depraved lead singer notwithstanding

I like to think I have learnt a thing or two about music (Neil S), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:23 (twelve years ago)

I'm sure.

But what was their perceived MO? Their 'mission statement' ? (In a nutshell, obv)

Mark G, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:23 (twelve years ago)

that was xposted, obv, too.

the prison service have to ensure his safety so he's probably going to be the most heavily segregated non-lethal detainee in the country

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:26 (twelve years ago)

There must be a hell of a lot of people out there with Lostprophets tattoos now frantically booking laser removal treatments.

Addison Doug (Matt #2), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)

But what was their perceived MO?

the skinny on them when i was at Kerrang! was that they were essentially a rock band in name but more closely resembled a boy band in operation

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:28 (twelve years ago)

have never knowingly heard a note of their music tbh

"Fake Sound of Progress" was a Steve "Lammo" Lamacq fave back in the day, no doubt he's currently burning a Lostprophets t-shirt

I like to think I have learnt a thing or two about music (Neil S), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)

I daresay there'll be a trawling for "suspicious" lyrics

Mark G, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:40 (twelve years ago)

anyone doing that is a cunt.

a beef supreme (dog latin), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:42 (twelve years ago)

Well, I was going to say, if there were they'd be reported on by now.

Idk Nakh, protective custody is all very well and good but it tends to work best when none of the other inmates are actually certain what the vulnerable inmates are in for. No chance of that here, every Cat A and B prisoner in the country is going to be waiting to see where this excrescence shows up.

Obviously he'll be very heavily protected but this is just such a visceral case. Remains to be seen how much cover the prison staff will actually offer him.

Tbh the women are probably gonna have it as bad, if not worse. Can't be many worse places to be than a high Category prison if you're a mother who's allowed your baby to be used as a sex toy.

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:52 (twelve years ago)

this is a strange sort of natural justice vs categorical imperative thing where it is vitally important that he is granted as a great a duty of care as possible but if somehow he did end up like this then nobody would give a shit

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:55 (twelve years ago)

hopefully he just suicides

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:56 (twelve years ago)

that all sounds fairly sensible

veneer timber (imago), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:13 (twelve years ago)

You'd hope they were "just" smoking meth with the baby in the room but who the fuck knows.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:16 (twelve years ago)

gonna go & see what the Charlton forum makes of this. usually surprisingly adept at suppressing more unconsidered outbursts but I feel this might be a (possibly deserved) exception

veneer timber (imago), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:18 (twelve years ago)

do[n't] keep us informed

the "Weird Al" Yankovic of country music (stevie), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:18 (twelve years ago)

lostprophets did an aggroangstrock cover of "Cry Me A River" that was linked on here eons ago: I'm sorry, but that Justin Timberlake track is garbage

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/11/26/ian-watkins-lostprophets-_0_n_4343245.html?utm_hp_ref=uk

Some of the evidence was too extreme and distressing to report.

then you read some of the stuff so fuck knows how bad the stuff is they cant report.

۩, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:22 (twelve years ago)

Mostly otm rage, a few despairing attacks on British penal policy. Nothing that really feels disproportionate. Watkins has surely claimed Worst Human Of 2013

veneer timber (imago), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:31 (twelve years ago)

if theres a worse human than he is i dont wanna know

۩, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:34 (twelve years ago)

don't think the cafc end of season awards are important enough that he will get day release clearance

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:34 (twelve years ago)

tbh this case is so revolting I regret reviving this thread now

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:46 (twelve years ago)

If you didn't do it, someone else would have.

Murgatroid, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:53 (twelve years ago)

i was on my way and Tom beat me to it

tbh the thought of likely violent outcomes for Watkins just makes me feel sadder still. i understand people's need to vent in these circumstances, but this sickness doesn't need a ceremonial sacrifice to underlie it. let him live with the life he's made for myself and let him confront it every day.

imagine being one of those groupies he filmed. more than punishment for having terrible taste.

kinder, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:10 (twelve years ago)

aiui those groupies were providing the guy with access to their infants? or were there other groupies involved? i don't really want to know tbh, wasn't reading the details too closely

Windsor Davies, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:14 (twelve years ago)

he shagged some 16-year-old girls, assume no infants involved at that point. but who tf knows.

kinder, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:17 (twelve years ago)

there were underage groupies (16 yr olds) and then there were these first round elimination mother of the year candidates discussed in the trial.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:17 (twelve years ago)

idk he seems to have been carrying on a fairly typical provincial ephebo rockstar teensex lifestyle at the same time as he was being a depraved psychopath

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:18 (twelve years ago)

(16 isn't underage in Britain) (Can't believe I'm making that point on this thread)

kinder, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:20 (twelve years ago)

these first round elimination mother of the year candidates

thank you for this

deX! (DJP), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:21 (twelve years ago)

xpost yes it is!

Mark G, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 18:52 (twelve years ago)

Sorry strike out my last post: read it as under16 for some reason

Well, that's certainly adding an important voice to the discourse. Cheers.

emil.y, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 20:09 (twelve years ago)

I find it hard to believe the other guys in his band had no inkling about what was going on tbh

subaltern 8 (Michael B), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 20:21 (twelve years ago)

I'd hazard a guess that they knew about the usual teenage groupie fucking but probably not about the baby etc.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 20:26 (twelve years ago)

As lex posted above of the person who tweeted about hearing rumors of it since she was a teenager, if there were rumors, then the band really probably knew.

Murgatroid, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 20:32 (twelve years ago)

more likely they knew the teenage groupie rumours

۩, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 20:35 (twelve years ago)

god that whodatedwho thing is one of the most depressing things i ever read on the internet. there are posts from years ago on there accusing him of similar things.

tpp, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 20:39 (twelve years ago)

yeah one wonders if the police or social services were entirely unaware of this until the end of last year

A Skanger Barkley (nakhchivan), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 20:41 (twelve years ago)

oh no this is just beyond words

god i wish i hadn't been curious as to why this thread had been bumped a lot for a couple days

lorde willin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 21:17 (twelve years ago)

M@tt we thought we were prepared for it until read the details and THIS still sticks in my mind

Some of the evidence was too extreme and distressing to report.

۩, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 21:22 (twelve years ago)

I cant remember reading a news story that has said that before.
