I like the way in Giorgio he's like "becoming a musician was almost impossible because the dream was so big" but then he became a musician and knew that was the moment he had a real chance of becoming a musician.
― ... (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 13:49 (thirteen years ago)
"fuck, now that I'm a musician this whole being a musician dream could one day happen for me."
― ... (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 13:52 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, the narrative it tells is really kind of lame and elliptical when you step back. it'd be hilarious, though, if the track was 25 minutes long and he really got into the nitty-gritty of what synthesizers were used on different key productions, how they programmed the drums, stuff like that. "oh, and on this song, we added a slight pitch shift to donna's vocals on the pre-chorus. i think that was effective. and we did use some live drums, what was that guy's name?" as the click track rolls merrily along...
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 13:56 (thirteen years ago)
haha the track could be a 30 minute shaggy dog story
― iatee, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 13:59 (thirteen years ago)
y'all know what he means though. his dreams were so big he couldn't see how to begin, he couldn't see the wood for the trees. but once he'd made the first step the path became clearer.
― nagl dude dude dude (ledge), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:01 (thirteen years ago)
the path through the wood of course.
Tbf, it was embarrassing for all involved. Moroder's rambling recollection was being taped by red bull for future commodification and the anecdote was just how donna summer was alone with giorgio when she recorded hot stuff. Dude was wearing a button up shirt with lapels and looked and sounded like your italian gpa.Again though: the set was SUPER EPIC and totally worth it, just a retrospective of the moroderverse with every big hit booming in your chest
― klaus dingeldore's rhinelander monkey keeper father (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:03 (thirteen years ago)
Title of the album would make more sense if Moroder was recounting various stories about his early use of MS Access to make shitty databases
― dschinghis kraan (NickB), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:08 (thirteen years ago)
you have to love how he pronounces "synthesizer"
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:09 (thirteen years ago)
although that's one of the weaker tracks i start really getting into it when the drums start to go all apeshit around 6:30
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:10 (thirteen years ago)
drums + scratching, etc.
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:11 (thirteen years ago)
which track has scratching on this again?
― balls, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:12 (thirteen years ago)
i like to think that somewhere in the reported 5 hours of interviews bangalter did with moroder, he told the tale of a day a curious fan emailed him....
Production of "I feel love" by Summer/Moroder
"Dear Mr. Tilmanthis is the only way i can help yousalutiGiorgio Moroder"
salutiGiorgio Moroder"

― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:18 (thirteen years ago)
haha that's so awesome, love this from that thread -
Love Saves the Day has a part where they talk with Moroder about this. He gives an anecdote that Donna Summer was dancing to it in a club, probably next to a speaker that was carrying the right channel, and came back to Moroder saying "You know, something is wrong with this recording!" Moroder told her "I know what's wrong." "[the record] did well all the same."― grady

If you make it to the end of that (and bless your soul if you did), you are treated to the accountant looking banjo player doing background vox, with the mandolin "player" (never seems to be playing it much afaict) doing that hand to the ear thing...

sounds similar to the music in the background of the beginning of giorgio
― gr8080, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:28 (thirteen years ago)
that track is for all the Kitaro fans out there. very soundtrack-y. makes me think i should listen to the Tron soundtrack. kinda figure Tron isn't gonna be some Tangerine Dream masterpiece or reach the heights of Keith Emerson's Nighthawks soundtrack, but i'll give it a shot.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:35 (thirteen years ago)
Tron soundtrack in many ways a much bigger let down than this album, but it's been a while. (Better than the Tron movie, though!)
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:36 (thirteen years ago)
okay i lasted for about 5 minutes of Tron and then went and listened to something that i've already listened to a zillion times. i'm such a rockhead. but hey i got the spirit of 1976 alive within me. and 1976 is still alive and well. it's fresh.

dig the horizon vibe though. would listen to an album of that. i kinda do already with old stuff like that but i'm all for new stuff like that.

Tron soundtrack = too much orchestra not enough synth

"drezzed" is the most daft punky on the tron score, right?
hope hollywood lets alex moulton score a film soon :-[

If this was Air - and it sounds like it could've been off any of the first 4 Air albums - no one would care. Pretty but...Eno-esque is grasping at straws.
