― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, September 27, 2012 8:46 PM (12 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink
nah only mnstrm hard rock on that list was Appetite and Pyromania
― some dude, Friday, 28 September 2012 01:01 (thirteen years ago)
i thought ilm loved hysteria. or is that a more recent thing?
i guess mainstream hard rock fans are the least likely to vote in polls then?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 28 September 2012 01:03 (thirteen years ago)
Lots of love here: Def Leppard 'Hysteria': C/D?
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 01:04 (thirteen years ago)
I never got the impression that it was loved the same way that the Pixies or the Smiths are loved though.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 01:05 (thirteen years ago)
oh i know that. but pop fans seem to love it. Just not enough to vote for in an 80s poll.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 28 September 2012 01:06 (thirteen years ago)
Im sure if there was an 80s heavy rock poll it would be like #2 to appetite

Isn't this an 80s heavy rock poll??
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 01:07 (thirteen years ago)
still #40 on a ballot seems about right for it. 15 year old me maybe woulda had it top 5
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 28 September 2012 01:08 (thirteen years ago)
not exclusively. I think it would need to be even more of a genre poll to get votes
Well, who knows? Maybe Hysteria IS #2 in this poll.

I'll take it down to #300 tonight
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 28 September 2012 01:10 (thirteen years ago)
I had a feeling Slippery When Wet would place low :/
Hysteria should be top 50 *at least* imo

was there some vague idea that Fables is the rockinest 80s REM album?
― some dude, Friday, 28 September 2012 01:32 (thirteen years ago)
most said they didn't belong at all but timellison insisted (then didn't vote)
so there we go.
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Friday, 28 September 2012 01:34 (thirteen years ago)
Life's Rich Pageant for me. Fables is good but LRP feels more *complete*

AG, dude, you gotta let it go :)
Anyway I hope everyone has enjoyed it so far and see you in the afternoon.

i voted for christ - the album. because its really really great, and way weirder than people think
― O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Friday, 28 September 2012 01:51 (thirteen years ago)
Dude, I was just about to post the recap!
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 01:54 (thirteen years ago)
Penis Envy was #10 on my ballot so I didn't put a second Crass album in the top 50, although I think I nominated Christ and Yes Sir I Will. I agree that Christ: the Album is really good though.
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 01:59 (thirteen years ago)
I voted for the REM; its probably my favorite of the 80s besides Chronic Town
I also voted for the Helios Creed; I think his solo stuff is more up my alley than Chrome tbh
I really want to check out the F Lips and K Haino albums
― alpha flighticles (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 28 September 2012 02:08 (thirteen years ago)
some Keiji Haino from Watashi Dake?:
Keiji Haino - Untitled (4:15): http://youtu.be/Qh0PC7I60Mo
reminds me a bit of this:
Einsturzende Neubauten - Keine Schonheit (Ohne Gefahr): http://youtu.be/SdAyFROLLkI
― Hellhouse, Friday, 28 September 2012 02:09 (thirteen years ago)
how's that f/service?
xp
― Hellhouse, Friday, 28 September 2012 02:10 (thirteen years ago)
the Einsturzende Neubauten is from Fuenf Auf Der Nach Offenen Richterskala (1987), which we'll hopefully see later.

And again, I would like to draw everyone's attention to this amazing AMG review: http://www.allmusic.com/album/watashi-dake-mw0001127080
I'm really interested to know what album the reviewer was listening to!
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 02:28 (thirteen years ago)
yes, but that is the genius of Keiji Haino - he makes his piano sound like a strangled guitar, which I think is v. advanced.
― Hellhouse, Friday, 28 September 2012 02:47 (thirteen years ago)
I didn't nominate that album and I didn't "insist" on anything. Not apologizing for participating or starting any conversations on a conversation forum.
― timellison, Friday, 28 September 2012 03:33 (thirteen years ago)
Hopefully I was one the three votes for Comsat Angels. The Renascent reissues from '06 are well worth searching. I wrote about 'em here - http://fastnbulbous.com/comsat-angels-reissues/
― Fastnbulbous, Friday, 28 September 2012 06:13 (thirteen years ago)
I was aslepp when it got posted, but I had never realised before what an 80s abortion the cover of Slippery When Wet is. Electric pink border! Sunset shading on the text! Generic bewbs photo!
― passive-aggressive display name (aldo), Friday, 28 September 2012 08:56 (thirteen years ago)
Sund4r-
Mars - 78 is tied at 320 (gotta support some of these basement dwellers).
― Hellhouse, Friday, 28 September 2012 11:18 (thirteen years ago)
Aldo presumably that's why the record company changed it to the one we're all familiar with.

Fixed.
(I've never heard it but I always assumed that album came out in 1978.)
― EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 September 2012 13:11 (thirteen years ago)
I think I got both of these CDs that same year in 1989. All the punk reissues were coming out that I was playing on my radio show, Fester's Bucket O' Nasties. Meanwhile a friend's metal show was turning me on to a bunch of bands including Terrorizer.

not sure if the story's true but supposedly the hot pink boobs cover was the label's original suggestion, bon jovi hated it so much he sprayed water on a garbage bag, wrote the name of the album on it, and took a picture.
― space dokken (Edward III), Friday, 28 September 2012 13:26 (thirteen years ago)
Mars' 78 was released on Lydia Lunch's Widowspeak label in '86.
― Hellhouse, Friday, 28 September 2012 13:29 (thirteen years ago)
well, they came up with the album title at a strip club, JBJ's problem with the cover was the cheesy pink border, probably didn't mind the bewbs
