Well I doubt EN or DIJ will place, I don't know about the rest but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't show up and the only industrial in the results is Killing Joke and Ministry.

How do people think the Pixies will do? I'm not sure about critical consensus on them these days. I would expect Surfer Rosa to do well, possibly top ten?

I'd think so, Doolittle will place somewhere too though personally I'm conflicted about voting for it - I love the album but I don't think of it as a rocking rock arecord as such (whereas Surfer Rosa seems just the right side of the line).

I know what you mean. Albini's production certainly gives Surfa Rosa some extra oomph. I suppose they're on of those bands that are perennially popular as well.

I'd be shocked if they didn't make top 10.

The only one i dont know there is Einsturzende Neubauten
the others I only know the albums nominated. What else by those acts should we all listen to?

My two favourite Neubaiten albums nominated are Halber Mensch (which is the best of the early, noisy stuff) and Haus der Luge (which is the gateway into the later, more contemplative stuff and really kind of foly - especially Ein Stuhl in der Holle).

You can do it. It is really funny seeing 1 group of ilxors struggling to make a ballot and another group sweating blood and tears over cutting down the shortlist to get 50.

Not a chance. I have just tried shortlisting the albums again and got it below 300 for the first time.

You can do it!

first try cutting to down to 1 per artist. Then try cutting down a bit to x amounts per genre. Then try sticking the tail on the donkey or something

Sorry to keep harping on the Butthole Surfers, but I just wanted to add I never really associated them with the bands who got lumped together as "lo fi," although I don't think I realize that lo fi was a thing until fairly late.

Also, I remember gareth (does he still post here--I have no idea what his name is these days if so) discovering them years ago and seemingly being surprised by how interesting they were in terms of pure sound. I don't know, I may be misremembering this. They were much more of an experimental and psychedelic band than some might guess. (I think I may have expected them to be narrowly hardcore punk back before I'd heard anything by them.)

i didn't vote for any Death In June, but NWW, Neubauten, Coil, Swans and Foetus all feature prominently in my top 20 albums and 3 of them are in my top 5. C93 and Young Gods also feature lower down. i ended up missing out some albums i love by these acts more than albums by other people so my poll wasn't dominated by a just few artists. i'm guessing the upper echelons of this poll will all be records i've never heard.

Some of those acts you mention should be in the top half of the poll too. It should be an interesting mix results wise.

They were all recorded after I was born but most of them I did not hear in the 80s.

(Also the channeling of TV/radio evangelists: "He knows all our needs. . ." I'm not going to lie, that makes me laugh.)

yup, the only metal i know (apart from the very odd slayer and metallica track) is the NWOBHM stuff listed. i had about 250 albums and a similar number of tracks in my initial list that i had to whittle down to 50. i ended up getting completely obsessed with it and stayed up 'til 6am doing this. ha!

I wonder if Dog Latin can find any 'Deconstructionist' Music in these nominations hehe. It does seem an 80s thing. Of course I do not have any knowledge of Jacques Derrida so have no idea really what DL's on about, but does NWW count?
