shipl.de.al (some dude), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:16 (thirteen years ago)

should probably start a 77 rolling scrolling teleprompter adventures threads so i don't make a habit of mucking up threads w/ namedropping, but the mandy moore thing itt could not be unremarked upon

shipl.de.al (some dude), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:17 (thirteen years ago)

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:19 (thirteen years ago)

whiney was v incredulous when i registered surprise that he's into "we are young" on some other thread

shipl.de.al (some dude), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:22 (thirteen years ago)

voted for fun. i'm definitely over "we are young" at this point, but think the album as a whole is great. it'll probably end up in my top ten for the year.

gotye song is the worst.

alpine static, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 03:51 (thirteen years ago)

otm

Whiney vs. (BradNelson), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 04:01 (thirteen years ago)

now listening to the acoustic version of "Why Am I The One" you posted in the Format thread, BradNelson...dudes are talented, songs are strong...when this is the stuff that's topping the charts, the world is OK

alpine static, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 04:19 (thirteen years ago)

gotye tune is a jam, voted that

omar little, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 04:23 (thirteen years ago)

fun. album is prolly not gonna be top 10 for me, but maybe top 20

la musica de harry frogbs (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 04:35 (thirteen years ago)

i mean look doe, fun are just straight out indiemo as balls-out musical theatre rock of ages 2042 ish; and i'll fucks with that over kermit the sumner calling the wahmbulance

la musica de harry frogbs (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 04:38 (thirteen years ago)

also not that i've heard a marimba in a while but i'm p sure it isn't a marimba

tbf, I doubt they brought in an actual acoustic instrument to play that part.

crüt, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 04:41 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, pretty sure that's a synth

they loooovin the crut (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 08:05 (thirteen years ago)

straight out indiemo as balls-out musical theatre rock of ages 2042 ish

I'd run like hell to avoid any of these signifiers in isolation, let alone in combination.

they loooovin the crut (The Reverend), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 08:07 (thirteen years ago)

"We Are Young" is one of the worst singles of the decade. It just has this soul-sucking, tampon commercial soundtrack sounding vacuousness.

I found him in a Bon Ton ad (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 13:37 (thirteen years ago)

misplaced comma?

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 13:39 (thirteen years ago)

No, it's not a soul sucking tampon.

Mark G, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 13:42 (thirteen years ago)

fun are just straight out indiemo as balls-out musical theatre rock of ages 2042 ish

it's actually pretty consistent with repping for 21st century breakdown

da croupier, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 13:47 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know what these two songs are either; "we are young" just makes me think of that cool Supergrass tune.

World Congress of Itch (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 13:59 (thirteen years ago)

Just go with that. It's much better.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:06 (thirteen years ago)

Gotye is a lot like Moldy Peaches.

The Eric and Re Show (Eric H.), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:09 (thirteen years ago)

misplaced comma?

Ha yes! I'm incoherent with hatred for this song. It may very well be as bad as "What's Up", which is my gold standard for terrible singles.

I found him in a Bon Ton ad (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:15 (thirteen years ago)

i never wanna hear either of these songs ever again

am0n, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:16 (thirteen years ago)

I did have a bit of an existential crisis/depersonalization experience when I realized I'm going to have to hear "but you didn't have to CUT ME OFF" for the rest of my life.

crüt, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:25 (thirteen years ago)

How a board can produce this thread So who ARE that insufferable indie couple in the new Hyundai TV ads? and still not call this basically a draw, smh.

The Eric and Re Show (Eric H.), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:29 (thirteen years ago)

You didn't have to crut me off.

emil.y, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:30 (thirteen years ago)

you know what is a better song than these songs

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:37 (thirteen years ago)

why isn't Rod Stewart covering Mandy Moore songs

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:37 (thirteen years ago)

sometimes I feel like I live in a totally different universe from the rest of you

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:41 (thirteen years ago)

well, you're in the Northeast.

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:42 (thirteen years ago)

so is ENBB!

I mean, I don't dislike Mandy Moore or anything but she's never been someone who I thought would generate devotion

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:46 (thirteen years ago)

I had a cousin who was really into her when he was 5. Now he's gay.

The Eric and Re Show (Eric H.), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:47 (thirteen years ago)

how old is he now – 12?

a regina spektor is haunting europe (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:47 (thirteen years ago)

Anyway, if it's the end of the night, and the bar is closing down, why does the song's singer need to reiterate that he'll take you home ... tonight?

The syntax is worse than that: "So if by the time the bar closes, and you feel like falling down, I'll carry you home." That's not even a sentence.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:48 (thirteen years ago)

well he's super drunk and high by that point, I'd expect some incoherency

Victory Chainsaw! (DJP), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:50 (thirteen years ago)

I'm with DJP - the Mandy Moore song is bloody dreadful. I think I might have to avoid this thread before I forget that non-godawful music exists.

emil.y, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:52 (thirteen years ago)

It would have been a lot better if you guys were talking about Mandy More.

emil.y, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 14:54 (thirteen years ago)

DJP - She's cute and seems like a total sweetheart. Also, she's been really great in a couple of movies. Candy is the only MM song I really know and it's a solid pop song. She's v likeable and just seems like she'd be fun to hang out with.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:27 (thirteen years ago)

One big strike wrt to Mandy Moore? She's married to Ryan Adams, so she has questionable taste in men.

Alfred, 17.

The Eric and Re Show (Eric H.), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:32 (thirteen years ago)

x-post - I don't consider that a strike against her.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

so she has questionable taste in men

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

I don't know, I like Ryan Adams' music most of the time, but by all accounts he's a complete and total asshole.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

Which seems like the complete opposite of Mandy.

heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

they've been together since 08 or something and they're still pitching twitter woo

da croupier, Tuesday, 12 June 2012 15:39 (thirteen years ago)

that's like 10 years in celebrity-time and probably 50 in ryan adams-time
