Modern Rock #1 Hits of 2000

Hm, I haven't heard Warning but I really like American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. I heard "Longview" the other day. All it did for me was make me feel old.

I think modern rock radio made a major resurgence in 2004 with American Idiot and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. (People 10 years younger than me get no pity.)

From about 2000 through 2008, most modern rock sucked. After that, some good bands started creeping back onto the top of playlists (Black Keys, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups).

Three Cheers is a classic to me, but imo the only time Green Day have been true to their fast fun roots in the last 10 years was on the album they released as the Foxboro Hottubs

I actually enjoyed Silversun Pickups when they came out but there's no way I'd rank them over the best emo of the mid-2000s or the White Stripes' hits from that time.

xpost Well yeah, they're not staying true to their pop-punk roots, which is why I like them.

Enjoy the Black Keys though.

Oh yeah... forgot to mention the Stripes. My favorite band of the nu-metal hangover era.

Green Day, "Minority" - Meh.
Fuel, "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" - Don't know this.

man "Lazy Eye" is better than anything the White Stripes have ever done imo. total banger.

I was an announcer at a modern rock station on the weekends during this time and remember all of these songs not very fondly at all. It's what made me go, you know? fuckit for the next dozen years and just listen to 80s punk bands all the time.

Franz Ferdinand and Spoon may have been worthwhile bands to get into, but I'm sorry, Fuel ruined it for you guys.

This must be where I got off the bus because I have no idea what any of these songs are. I mean, there is little question that most if not all of these would be familiar to me if I played them. But this is the first poll where I just can't associate music to a single one of the song titles.

I voicetracked my modern rock segments, which meant that I only had to listen to the last ten seconds of each song or so.

I tell you, just hearing those chords ring off into the distance made me hate them anymore.

I always backsold the Fuel song as "Hemorrhage –––– In My Hands?" like the centipedes in my vagina woman.

at the time my favorite rock single that year was "Judith" which peaked at #5 on the chart according to wiki

Also: I tend to link Enema of the State in my head with some really awful times during my freshman year in college. I don't think I've ever forgiven Blink-182. (Though I confess to liking "Adam's Song")
