actually never mind, I'm voting for "All the Small Things." Even though it was on the 1999 poll too.

Snowqueen's Icedragon (crüt), Thursday, 31 May 2012 13:47 (fourteen years ago)

Hm, I haven't heard Warning but I really like American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown. I heard "Longview" the other day. All it did for me was make me feel old.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 31 May 2012 13:49 (fourteen years ago)

I think modern rock radio made a major resurgence in 2004 with American Idiot and Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. (People 10 years younger than me get no pity.)

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 31 May 2012 13:53 (fourteen years ago)

From about 2000 through 2008, most modern rock sucked. After that, some good bands started creeping back onto the top of playlists (Black Keys, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups).

LimbsKing, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:00 (fourteen years ago)

Three Cheers is a classic to me, but imo the only time Green Day have been true to their fast fun roots in the last 10 years was on the album they released as the Foxboro Hottubs

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

I actually enjoyed Silversun Pickups when they came out but there's no way I'd rank them over the best emo of the mid-2000s or the White Stripes' hits from that time.

xpost Well yeah, they're not staying true to their pop-punk roots, which is why I like them.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

Enjoy the Black Keys though.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:05 (fourteen years ago)

Oh yeah... forgot to mention the Stripes. My favorite band of the nu-metal hangover era.

LimbsKing, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:07 (fourteen years ago)

if we wanna talk about the whole decade there's a thread about one of my lorax-loved lists: al ship's top 50 rock singles of the 00s -- which is your favorite?

some dude, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:08 (fourteen years ago)

woah this is dire

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:11 (fourteen years ago)

Good list!

LimbsKing, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:12 (fourteen years ago)

the only songs that i don't like are the rhcps and green day but it's definitely not the nineties no more

da croupier, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:13 (fourteen years ago)

Blink 182, "All the Small Things" - Nope.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Otherside" - I don't remember this.
3 Doors Down, "Kryptonite" - LOL
Papa Roach, "Last Resort" - It's fun to sing along to.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Californication" - HATE
Green Day, "Minority" - Meh.
Fuel, "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" - Don't know this.

I might have to abstain.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:14 (fourteen years ago)

E I guarantee you know that Fuel song

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

Oh I remember Otherside now. Might actually be more annoying than Californication.

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

cut my life into pizzas / i'm voting for papa roach

pplains, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

brb youtubing the fuel song . . .

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:18 (fourteen years ago)

I actually enjoyed Silversun Pickups when they came out but there's no way I'd rank them over the best emo of the mid-2000s or the White Stripes' hits from that time.

man "Lazy Eye" is better than anything the White Stripes have ever done imo. total banger.

Snowqueen's Icedragon (crüt), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

I was an announcer at a modern rock station on the weekends during this time and remember all of these songs not very fondly at all. It's what made me go, you know? fuckit for the next dozen years and just listen to 80s punk bands all the time.

Franz Ferdinand and Spoon may have been worthwhile bands to get into, but I'm sorry, Fuel ruined it for you guys.

pplains, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:20 (fourteen years ago)

DJP - lol oh God yeah that's awful

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

Franz Ferdinand are not a worthwhile anything

Snowqueen's Icedragon (crüt), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:21 (fourteen years ago)

I like a couple FF songs a lot. :/

wolf kabob (ENBB), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:24 (fourteen years ago)

there's a remix of "Outsiders" that I like

Snowqueen's Icedragon (crüt), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:25 (fourteen years ago)

you don't remember, but iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii do

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:26 (fourteen years ago)

don't vote for 3 doors down

Snowqueen's Icedragon (crüt), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:28 (fourteen years ago)

ok i just did

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

thank u for making up my mind 4 me

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

This must be where I got off the bus because I have no idea what any of these songs are. I mean, there is little question that most if not all of these would be familiar to me if I played them. But this is the first poll where I just can't associate music to a single one of the song titles.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:29 (fourteen years ago)

dude!

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

all of these songs sans the green day one are croosh

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:30 (fourteen years ago)

Fuel fans are called "Fuelies" and, in 2010, the band underwent a total lineup change:

Yogi Lonich is a bit flaky and can't decide whether he's coming or going

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:39 (fourteen years ago)

the fuel song is the only one i can't summon up in my head from the title but i'm sure i know it

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:41 (fourteen years ago)

voted papa roach because why the fuck not, there's no right choice here

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:42 (fourteen years ago)

my main beef with the Fuel song is that everytime I hear it I think of this

Snowqueen's Icedragon (crüt), Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

I voicetracked my modern rock segments, which meant that I only had to listen to the last ten seconds of each song or so.

I tell you, just hearing those chords ring off into the distance made me hate them anymore.

I always backsold the Fuel song as "Hemorrhage –––– In My Hands?" like the centipedes in my vagina woman.

pplains, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:44 (fourteen years ago)

at the time my favorite rock single that year was "Judith" which peaked at #5 on the chart according to wiki

ciderpress, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:45 (fourteen years ago)

perfect circle i'm guessing

markers, Thursday, 31 May 2012 14:46 (fourteen years ago)

kel ler/pharmacists (some dude), Monday, 4 June 2012 01:15 (fourteen years ago)

at least theres no godsmack.

billstevejim, Monday, 4 June 2012 01:17 (fourteen years ago)

poor green day, i've never heard that 3 doors down song but my prediction is that it's worse than 'minority'.

so we have ten lurking papa roach fans who have, ten years on, finally made an impact on ilm.

Merdeyeux, Monday, 4 June 2012 04:10 (fourteen years ago)

shockingly, the 3DD song is NOT worse than "Minority" (they really should have tied tho)

that is a weird thing to bring up over lean cuisine (DJP), Monday, 4 June 2012 13:46 (fourteen years ago)

I wish I knew what the story was behind using the line "I saw the world float to the dark side of the moon" twice.

how's life, Monday, 4 June 2012 14:19 (fourteen years ago)

Cannibalizing the mid-70s was apparently a "thing" around this time

freebroheem (loves laboured breathing), Monday, 4 June 2012 14:59 (fourteen years ago)

Also: I tend to link Enema of the State in my head with some really awful times during my freshman year in college. I don't think I've ever forgiven Blink-182. (Though I confess to liking "Adam's Song")

freebroheem (loves laboured breathing), Tuesday, 5 June 2012 05:09 (fourteen years ago)
