we literally JUST got back on track with the first couple after the sandbox/year-end-lists hiatus so "seems" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in k3v's post

iatee, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Is there special correlating software, or is it just a spreadsheet? If it's relatively simple, I'd run a Cover Version poll

kornrulez6969, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

I used notepad & pencil, I don't think there's a set format.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

someone has an xls upthread, if you have basic knowledge of excel it shouldn't be too hard

iatee, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, here's finefinemusic's xls template from upthread -- Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

last year someone asked about doing a cover songs poll and i really have no idea how it would work: Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

Put me down for Elvis Costello

kornrulez6969, Monday, 27 February 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

sweet, that'll be a fun one

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

looking forward to this classic rock poll! in the UK we never had rock radio like you guys get so there's no radio overkill on a lot of these songs

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

bummed that we gotta wait so long for sonic youth :/

Right.. I forgot about that one. Tried mediafire, gave up. However it turns out I do not have a copy on my computer here anymore! Anyone else still got theirs?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 February 2012 21:01 (fourteen years ago)

Thanks guy!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 February 2012 21:06 (fourteen years ago)

yay, i'm stoked to do the classic rock canon! I think I can probably stick to a more reasonable timeline now that I really know what I'm in for...I also moved from the US to India and back during the course of the REM poll, so there was a lot going on.

somedude, would definitely love to see the 500 spreadsheet - donutdisturbed AT hotmail DOT etc. Thanks!!

nice work william

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

Johnny Fever - I really like the jpegs you used on your Pavement poll and want to do something similar for my Cure poll. I don't want to screw up any sizings on my very first post though - what were the dimensions/dpi for your jpegs?

nate woolls, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

Johnny Fever's Pavement poll graphics are one of the great contributions to ILM--so fantastic

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 01:41 (fourteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure they were all 72dpi, but I don't remember the dimensions. I basically created a template in photoshop, altering the text for each entry and dropping a different image so they were all uniform (same for the 2011 eoy tracks poll).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

somebody should put every single ilx poll result in some xls one day

iatee, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:18 (fourteen years ago)

not it

iatee, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:18 (fourteen years ago)

Lamp -- a heads-up for timing your Paul Simon poll -- I plan to bring out Bowie results all in two days and be done Wednesday afternoon/evening.

For anyone who uses this thread to keep up with these things and hasn't seen the Bowie voting thread -- there's still just over two days to get your ballot in if you're interested. NEUPÖLLN - ILM Artist Poll #14 - David Bowie (voting deadline MONDAY MARCH 5TH)

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Sunday, 4 March 2012 01:46 (fourteen years ago)

seems we're crying out for some roxy music/ bryan ferry.

charlie h, Monday, 5 March 2012 01:55 (fourteen years ago)

omg paul simes poll got to get ready

horseshoe, Monday, 5 March 2012 01:59 (fourteen years ago)

Whoever picks up the Roxy one should run a mini 'sleeve art' poll alongside.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 5 March 2012 07:08 (fourteen years ago)

^^ exactly

charlie h, Tuesday, 6 March 2012 08:43 (fourteen years ago)

I think it's a good idea to start the voting thread for the next poll while the results for the other are rolling... It's not hard to follow both threads, and some of them probaby don't even that much voter overlap. This way it doesn't take two years to finish all these polls.

Tuomas, Thursday, 8 March 2012 08:57 (fourteen years ago)

I do try to vote in most of them and I don't like the overlap so much - I end up researching Paul Simon instead of spending time with everyone else, digging Bowie.

Ismael Klata, Thursday, 8 March 2012 09:41 (fourteen years ago)

think there will be some great disco made in the next two years fwiw

You're welcome child. It was just another day being your God (crüt), Saturday, 10 March 2012 08:38 (fourteen years ago)

it's weird to me that people care so much whether we rush through all these polls in the next six months or if it takes TWO WHOLE YEARS GOSH

Pato The Cape GOAT (some dude), Saturday, 10 March 2012 11:36 (fourteen years ago)

like, you'll just fucking die if you don't know ILM's favorite Tom Waits songs by November, oh no

Pato The Cape GOAT (some dude), Saturday, 10 March 2012 11:38 (fourteen years ago)

world ends in 9 months bro

been to lots of college and twitter (k3vin k.), Saturday, 10 March 2012 15:53 (fourteen years ago)

We should be so lucky. (/morbs)

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Saturday, 10 March 2012 15:55 (fourteen years ago)

Is anyone gonna do a Roxy poll, then?

Iago Galdston, Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)

it's weird to me that people care so much whether we rush through all these polls in the next six months or if it takes TWO WHOLE YEARS GOSH

a lot of people's ilx contracts run out this year and will not be spending time posting thereafter

desperado, rough rider (thomp), Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:29 (fourteen years ago)

charlie h, were you volunteering to do Roxy Music?

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Saturday, 10 March 2012 16:45 (fourteen years ago)

This is a strange question, but I was wondering if I could try a poll for a band outside of the list, just to practice.

I've got a band in mind that no one in their right mind would ever want to volunteer for. More for fun than for realz.

pplains, Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

I just don't want to hit the Hüsker Dü poll as my first one and fuck everything up.

pplains, Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:02 (fourteen years ago)

I guess? My only worry would be poll fatigue if a lot of people were working on Paul Simon (or the Stones) and comedy films and your poll all at the same time. But I'm just the list updater, not the permission giver.

If you want, I could send you the Zeppelin ballots so you could get comfortable with the data entry process.

Carlos Pollomar (WmC), Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:18 (fourteen years ago)

It's easy enough to do with just pen & paper if you don't want to complicate things

Ismael Klata, Saturday, 10 March 2012 17:28 (fourteen years ago)
