Nowt wrong with Sultans Of Swing, though Fleetwood Mac have this poll all sewn up.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 27 February 2012 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

poll hasn't even been organized yet and the results are already in dire straits

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 15:58 (fourteen years ago)

I would throw a couple points to "Walk of Life" maybe, although perhaps that's a bit late in the game.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 27 February 2012 16:00 (fourteen years ago)

seems like a big enough poll concept to fall outside the artist polls, like Postwar Jazz Albums or Alltime Rap Tracks

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, 27 February 2012 16:02 (fourteen years ago)

PS. Steve Miller Band and/or "Rock & Roll Hootchie-Koo" for the win.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 27 February 2012 16:24 (fourteen years ago)

ok, i got the top 500 spins for classic rock in 2011/2012 -- casino did you want to run the poll? i can send you the data i just got but i'd be happy to sign up to run the poll myself.

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 17:25 (fourteen years ago)

Do it! Start the thread.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 27 February 2012 17:33 (fourteen years ago)

it was DC's idea, i'm not gonna yank it from him w/o permission, also shouldn't it go in the queue with all the other ballot polls?

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 17:35 (fourteen years ago)

― Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, February 27, 2012 10:02 AM (1 hour ago)

But I'm just one opinion in a Costco-sized variety pack of opinions, so --

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, 27 February 2012 17:41 (fourteen years ago)

well the idea of the queue is to kind of streamline ballot polls so there's not a bunch going on at once, right? i don't see why single-artist polls would be excepted from that.

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 17:45 (fourteen years ago)

I agree, it should go in the queue - there are so many more of these things now compared to a year or two ago, it seems like.

I'm into doing it, if nobody minds the fact that my REM poll took like a year to get all the results out...

Would definitely want to preface it with a rules/debate thread to work out the best mechanism for noms. I'd definitely be interested to see the 2011 list - but I feel like the 2011 idea of a classic rock playlist is different than what I have in my head. Who knows? Would be an interesting poll regardless, I do like the "objectivity" of a given list to work from. Hmmm.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 27 February 2012 18:11 (fourteen years ago)

i agree w/ that -- looking at the 500, i'd be tempted to throw out anything post-1990, if not earlier, for poll options. i could try and get some data from earlier years but i kinda feel like there wouldn't be a huge difference other than some of the newer stuff creeping in.

if you think you'd take a long time compiling results, people tend to get impatient about that sort of thing, if you want help or would rather hand it off, but it's totally your call.

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 18:19 (fourteen years ago)

I'd love to compare today's Classic Rock 500 and the same list from 2000. xposts

(the list in progress)

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, 27 February 2012 18:21 (fourteen years ago)

ploppawheelie V (k3vin k.), Monday, 27 February 2012 18:38 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, can't wait for that one

gospodin simmel, Monday, 27 February 2012 18:46 (fourteen years ago)

can we restrict these to one week-long nomination periods or something? seems like they're taking 4ever

ploppawheelie V (k3vin k.), Monday, 27 February 2012 19:12 (fourteen years ago)

at the very least we should get back in the groove of 1 voting + 1 revealing

iatee, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:13 (fourteen years ago)

we literally JUST got back on track with the first couple after the sandbox/year-end-lists hiatus so "seems" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in k3v's post

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 19:21 (fourteen years ago)

tbf i am v strong

ploppawheelie V (k3vin k.), Monday, 27 February 2012 19:22 (fourteen years ago)

ploppawheelie V (k3vin k.), Monday, 27 February 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

ploppawheelie V (k3vin k.), Monday, 27 February 2012 19:25 (fourteen years ago)

flagellated

iatee, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:26 (fourteen years ago)

Is there special correlating software, or is it just a spreadsheet? If it's relatively simple, I'd run a Cover Version poll

kornrulez6969, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:52 (fourteen years ago)

I used notepad & pencil, I don't think there's a set format.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:56 (fourteen years ago)

someone has an xls upthread, if you have basic knowledge of excel it shouldn't be too hard

iatee, Monday, 27 February 2012 19:57 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, here's finefinemusic's xls template from upthread -- Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

Steamtable Willie (WmC), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:00 (fourteen years ago)

last year someone asked about doing a cover songs poll and i really have no idea how it would work: Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:02 (fourteen years ago)

Put me down for Elvis Costello

kornrulez6969, Monday, 27 February 2012 20:06 (fourteen years ago)

sweet, that'll be a fun one

DNRIYHM NATION 1814 (some dude), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:07 (fourteen years ago)

looking forward to this classic rock poll! in the UK we never had rock radio like you guys get so there's no radio overkill on a lot of these songs

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Monday, 27 February 2012 20:08 (fourteen years ago)

Right.. I forgot about that one. Tried mediafire, gave up. However it turns out I do not have a copy on my computer here anymore! Anyone else still got theirs?

Thanks guy!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 27 February 2012 21:06 (fourteen years ago)

yay, i'm stoked to do the classic rock canon! I think I can probably stick to a more reasonable timeline now that I really know what I'm in for...I also moved from the US to India and back during the course of the REM poll, so there was a lot going on.

somedude, would definitely love to see the 500 spreadsheet - donutdisturbed AT hotmail DOT etc. Thanks!!

nice work william

pfunkboy (Algerian Goalkeeper), Tuesday, 28 February 2012 13:57 (fourteen years ago)

Johnny Fever - I really like the jpegs you used on your Pavement poll and want to do something similar for my Cure poll. I don't want to screw up any sizings on my very first post though - what were the dimensions/dpi for your jpegs?

nate woolls, Tuesday, 28 February 2012 14:01 (fourteen years ago)

Johnny Fever's Pavement poll graphics are one of the great contributions to ILM--so fantastic

Iago Galdston, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 01:41 (fourteen years ago)

I'm pretty sure they were all 72dpi, but I don't remember the dimensions. I basically created a template in photoshop, altering the text for each entry and dropping a different image so they were all uniform (same for the 2011 eoy tracks poll).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:10 (fourteen years ago)

somebody should put every single ilx poll result in some xls one day

iatee, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:18 (fourteen years ago)

not it

iatee, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 02:18 (fourteen years ago)

Lamp -- a heads-up for timing your Paul Simon poll -- I plan to bring out Bowie results all in two days and be done Wednesday afternoon/evening.

For anyone who uses this thread to keep up with these things and hasn't seen the Bowie voting thread -- there's still just over two days to get your ballot in if you're interested. NEUPÖLLN - ILM Artist Poll #14 - David Bowie (voting deadline MONDAY MARCH 5TH)
