Nowt wrong with Sultans Of Swing, though Fleetwood Mac have this poll all sewn up.

poll hasn't even been organized yet and the results are already in dire straits

I would throw a couple points to "Walk of Life" maybe, although perhaps that's a bit late in the game.

seems like a big enough poll concept to fall outside the artist polls, like Postwar Jazz Albums or Alltime Rap Tracks

well the idea of the queue is to kind of streamline ballot polls so there's not a bunch going on at once, right? i don't see why single-artist polls would be excepted from that.

I agree, it should go in the queue - there are so many more of these things now compared to a year or two ago, it seems like.

I'm into doing it, if nobody minds the fact that my REM poll took like a year to get all the results out...

Would definitely want to preface it with a rules/debate thread to work out the best mechanism for noms. I'd definitely be interested to see the 2011 list - but I feel like the 2011 idea of a classic rock playlist is different than what I have in my head. Who knows? Would be an interesting poll regardless, I do like the "objectivity" of a given list to work from. Hmmm.

i agree w/ that -- looking at the 500, i'd be tempted to throw out anything post-1990, if not earlier, for poll options. i could try and get some data from earlier years but i kinda feel like there wouldn't be a huge difference other than some of the newer stuff creeping in.

if you think you'd take a long time compiling results, people tend to get impatient about that sort of thing, if you want help or would rather hand it off, but it's totally your call.

Is there special correlating software, or is it just a spreadsheet? If it's relatively simple, I'd run a Cover Version poll

I used notepad & pencil, I don't think there's a set format.

someone has an xls upthread, if you have basic knowledge of excel it shouldn't be too hard

yay, i'm stoked to do the classic rock canon! I think I can probably stick to a more reasonable timeline now that I really know what I'm in for...I also moved from the US to India and back during the course of the REM poll, so there was a lot going on.

Johnny Fever - I really like the jpegs you used on your Pavement poll and want to do something similar for my Cure poll. I don't want to screw up any sizings on my very first post though - what were the dimensions/dpi for your jpegs?

Johnny Fever's Pavement poll graphics are one of the great contributions to ILM--so fantastic

I'm pretty sure they were all 72dpi, but I don't remember the dimensions. I basically created a template in photoshop, altering the text for each entry and dropping a different image so they were all uniform (same for the 2011 eoy tracks poll).
