i almost put that Insane Clown Posse song on my year-end list last year, so i wouldn't be surprised if i face similar temptation w/ this as it slowly takes over my brain

This may be the worst song written. I'm even a 7th grader and it's terrible for kids. The lyrics have no rhythm. Waiting at the bus stop. I see my friends! Honestly? When I first heard it,which was yesterday, I burst out laughing. When I played it for my sister she asked me if someone made this as a joke. She sounds like my 50 year old aunt. She sounds worse than Selena Gomez on her worst day. No one cares about what you do on Friday, rebecca.

"No one cares what you do on Friday, Rebecca"....I hear this delivered with a perfect mean-girl tone

"We were all talking, and we decided that, like, since you are so bad at singing and everyone hates you and whatever, that you're out of the group."

56. Writing a good "weekend" song is hard to pull off. I fear that the guy who prompted me to begin this thread will say "Nonsense! Anybody can write a good 'weekend' song!" When I see his "weekend" song on the charts, I will concede his point. Until then, I'll note that many, many "weekend" songs are released each year, but very few of them actually poke their heads above the surface. This is because most of them sound forced. Rebecca Black's greatest gift is his ability to sound natural; engaged; genuine. Even when he's singing in a very mannered fashion.

...his?

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 17 March 2011 04:14 (fifteen years ago)

The only "genuine" sounding thing about this girl is the fact she is utterly, absolutely tone-deaf and cannot sing. Her voice is flat, nasal and monotonic and even autotune cant save it.

And yes OK that didn't stop the likes of John Lydon but you know. Aaargrhh.

a perceptive comment, from user "bitchimspecial" on last.fm!

No but really, "Friday" reminds me of how I thought every teen felt about Friday when I was 8.

lex pretend, Thursday, 17 March 2011 08:17 (fifteen years ago)

i think the funniest thing about this is that somehow, despite...everything, it's still an earworm. how was this stuck in my head as i went to sleep last night and then STILL THERE WHEN I WOKE UP? after just one viewing, most of which was spent making the :o face?

― lex pretend, Monday, 14 March 2011 07:45 (3 days ago)

yeah, just came on to post abt how THIS morning it was:

"I don't want this weekend to eeeeeend / YO R. B. Rebecca Black! Front seat back seat, drivin' cruisin', fast lanes, switchin lanes!"

Sheneneh et Caro (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 17 March 2011 11:41 (fifteen years ago)

this would actually be a really hard karaoke song because so many of the lyrics are just filler words crammed in - nothing really follows logically from what preceded it

The rap is kind of like someone explained to the guy what rapping was and he had to do it at short notice without ever actually hearing an example of it

I like that on the Dylan one the top rated comment is a spoof inane Youtube nostalgia moment

I agree. If only there existed this 'machine' that projected lyrics for the singer on a 'screen'

Does this song sort of remind anyone else of united states of electronica?

MPx4A, Thursday, 17 March 2011 12:53 (fifteen years ago)

After several views it suddenly struck me that she's totally ditching school and going all Ferris Bueller on us. There she is, waiting at the bus stop, when suddenly her ne'er-do-well friends pull up in their (stolen? borrowed?) car, and she's thinking: do I go to school? Or do I ditch and hang with my homies? The decision is easy, though, because it's FRIDAY. Know what I'm saying? Next thing you know, we flash forward to the end of an all-day rager and they're all blissfully blitzed.

The dude rapping in the car? He's a cop on the way to bust the teen party. That's why he's so happy, and why he's flying solo.

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 17 March 2011 12:54 (fifteen years ago)

"it's friday" in my head pretty much all day yesterday and this morning. just repeating forever no matter what i think about. total parasite in my brain! i can't remember the last time this has happened. kinda spooky.

scott seward, Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:10 (fifteen years ago)

there must be some scientific explanation. the tone or something. it just repeats in a loop...

scott seward, Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:10 (fifteen years ago)

TS: "Fun fun fun til your daddy takes your T-bird away" vs. "Fun fun fun on the autobahn" vs. "fun fun fun fun."

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

this is the song u hear when u die

frogbs, Thursday, 17 March 2011 13:15 (fifteen years ago)

xp lol same here, like some awful mantra underlying every other thought. i was able to push it away for a time while meditating this morning but kept creeping back in - Fri-eeday Fri-eeday, ge'in down on Fri-eeday. MAKE IT STOP!!!

the point in the video where those words flash on the screen right before she sings them was where my jaw kinda dropped and i was like "are they really gonna...OH GOD...THIS IS EVERYTHING PEOPLE SAID IT WOULD BE AND MORE"

I watched this video once (on Tuesday) and I can't remember how the song goes and I am terrified to watch it again lest it lodge in my brain as it has for so many of you unfortunates.
