Hey, it's not like I'm not accustomed to having my likes be outliers around the rolling pop thread and I accept what you guys are saying and even half-agree with it, but I still think that song is tits.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:35 (fifteen years ago)
also her bio trumpets that she's written for timberlake, aguilera, rihanna - been doing a bit of research and it seems all of these songs must never have been used as they don't show up on any databases. imagine the calibre of song that was CUT from xtina's bionic!
i guess we didn't realise at the time that "party in the usa" was written by two swedes and a brit?
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:36 (fifteen years ago)
i think "Do It Like A Dude" is a perfectly good title/premise for a pop song

i think the mysticism regarding this song fell apart when miley revealed that she'd never heard a jay-z song
― little humma boy (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:38 (fifteen years ago)
"like a boy" is a million times better because ciara actually sings about real male/female roles in relationships and what's considered "acceptable" behaviour for men and women, while jessie j reduces it all to lame signifiers and gender essentialism
also "like a boy" doesn't sound like ass
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:39 (fifteen years ago)
"Do It Like A Dude" is a much funnier and more evocative phrase than the boring Ciara/Beyonce song titles (which also are a totally different premise)
― JaySeanLilWayne (some dude), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:40 (fifteen years ago)
damn you guys are right--this is one terrible song
― call all destroyer, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:41 (fifteen years ago)
so you really only care about the title of the song? xp
― little humma boy (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)
I liked the song that was in the top 77 countdown, and the song with Magnetic Man, but what I've heard since I really have no strong feelings about.
― Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:42 (fifteen years ago)
I haven't heard Katy B yet but I am certain I would like her more than Jessie J

I am also certain I would like herpes more than Jessie J, eventually

no, i was just pointing out why posting a youtube of "Like A Boy" was completely irrelevant to what i was saying.

dan: Katy B - On A Mission (4 April 2011) - hype, anticipation &c
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:57 (fifteen years ago)
okay that first track is fucking hot
― ancient, but very sexy (DJP), Wednesday, 9 March 2011 20:58 (fifteen years ago)
okay now I am even angrier about Jessie J

lupe's going #1
― swag the dog (J0rdan S.), Friday, 11 March 2011 01:31 (fifteen years ago)
lol i didn't realize that horrific modest mouse single of his was produced by kane beatz -- that dude is such a fucking hack
― J0rdan S., Friday, 11 March 2011 01:34 (fifteen years ago)
wow becoming the elder statesman of subkanye blog rappers and getting fans angry about your big mean label can actually help you move units, who knew?
― some dude, Friday, 11 March 2011 01:35 (fifteen years ago)
o_O
Lasers, which will debut at #1 next week with between 220-240k in sales, the second biggest of the year next to Adele and the best start of his career.
― J0rdan S., Friday, 11 March 2011 01:37 (fifteen years ago)
the funny thing about this is that it's gonna force him to continue his career making awful major label indebted crap instead of nobly retiring or w/e his plan was

another dumptruck full of money pulls up to skylar grey's house
― some dude, Friday, 11 March 2011 01:42 (fifteen years ago)
mike shinoda -- unemployed since september 2010 -- puts the truck in park
― J0rdan S., Friday, 11 March 2011 01:44 (fifteen years ago)
that one went over my head
― some dude, Friday, 11 March 2011 01:45 (fifteen years ago)
lol well i was making a joke about skylar grey transcending mike shinoda, as such he's driving the dump truck, but i forgot for a sec that he's in linkin park
― J0rdan S., Friday, 11 March 2011 01:48 (fifteen years ago)
transcending fort minor*
i miss chester bennington
― pearsonic, Friday, 11 March 2011 01:52 (fifteen years ago)
well LP's last album was released in September so i thought that was part of the joke but then it made even less sense!
― some dude, Friday, 11 March 2011 01:53 (fifteen years ago)
look, i screwed up
― J0rdan S., Friday, 11 March 2011 01:54 (fifteen years ago)
haha no it's cool, just the month thing made it extra confusing!
― some dude, Friday, 11 March 2011 02:04 (fifteen years ago)
I haven't much kept up with chartpop lately but watching the UK top 40 rundown I'm already sick of this 'rap song with melodramatic emo guest singer chorus' thing. Also why is Skyler Grey one person in the Dre video and two different people in the Diddy video?
― Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 16 March 2011 15:48 (fifteen years ago)
Diddy's group Dirty Money has 2 female singers (which makes Skylar Grey's appearance on "Coming Home" especially superfluous) -- she's not in the Diddy video but that is her in the Dre video
― some dude, Wednesday, 16 March 2011 16:07 (fifteen years ago)
don't much care for jessie j but would like to know you people's thoughts on this article http://drownedinsound.com/releases/16079/reviews/4142296

i kinda like this -- old school teen pop crew lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D31Gzfe2yL0
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 06:49 (fifteen years ago)
also aside from the hilarious unintentional robyn punchline in the first paragraph, perp's jessie j review was good & connecting her w/ rebecca black in the last paragraph lifts the review to greater heights than "necessary hit job"

― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 06:51 (fifteen years ago)
also, you know, i was driving home today w/ the windows down & there was a nice breeze going and wiz's "roll up" came on the radio & damn if it didn't sound kinda perfect
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 06:52 (fifteen years ago)
i didn't really have anything invested in wiz pre-"black & yellow" so i don't really care that he went full pop & it goes w/o saying that from an aesthetic standpoint getting w/ stargate is a much better look than alex da kid or bruno mars or dr. luke
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 06:54 (fifteen years ago)
both the stargate/wiz songs have cool bridges imo -- i always thought that the "black & yellow" bridge was the best runners beat since "cash flow"
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 07:01 (fifteen years ago)
oh yeah, the new bruno mars single -- yikes
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 07:05 (fifteen years ago)
oh yeah, rebecca black is in at #72
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 07:06 (fifteen years ago)
"The Lazy Song" is terrible but i'm taking some comfort in the arrival of a Bruno Mars single that i can't imagine shooting to #1
― corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 16:18 (fifteen years ago)
btw i'd like to be the first person on ILM to mention Christina Perri's "Jar Of Hearts" since it has yet to be rightfully singled out as one of the most horrible and inexplicable chart hits in recent memory
― corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 16:23 (fifteen years ago)
Oh man! I am not a rolling pop regular, but I wanted to be that person! I've meant to post about that song for at least a month. She seems like she was grown in a petri dish, but the song's not THAT bad. It's not as bad as that song that samples "Old Man".
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:05 (fifteen years ago)
wouldn't a pop star grown in a petri dish have a good voice and maybe no skunk hair? the song really is THAT bad imo.
― corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:09 (fifteen years ago)
agreed re: "roll up." i can see why people might call it a slight song, but to me it sounds perfect for this time of year
heard that bruno mars song on the radio for the first time the other day, cringed at the lyric about having sex in the morning or whatever
― teledyldonix, Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:38 (fifteen years ago)
good pointstill, the song that samples "old man" is worse
― Ralpharina (La Lechera), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:43 (fifteen years ago)
even tho i should identify with the bruno mars song there's something that's really smug & repelling about it
― wavy g. wavegarten (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:58 (fifteen years ago)
well there is or should be a lot more to enjoying music than identifying with it, no worries there
― corkslovetoscrew (some dude), Sunday, 27 March 2011 17:59 (fifteen years ago)
4 straight number ones for KP
― J0rdan S., Thursday, 31 March 2011 20:40 (fifteen years ago)
also there's a wiz khalifa song that i've never heard of at #6
