i feel like this should be a beat for a rapper that doesn't currently exist. we need to invent a rapper.

This is nice isn't it? Kind of a midpoint between Joker, Sinden and Jackie Chain. I dig.

find it strange that people "don't know what to do" with this ina post dubstep'n'crunk'n'Salem world.

this 'wut' track has been my jam for a few days now btw.. thx lex

works better in a mix. hearing it as a single lessen the true potential of it. just IMO.

i thought the same thing at first, but i actually think Black Milk would sound tremendous over this

Witch House is sooo early-2010s now. It's all about Swedish Industro-Bhangra in Hitchin these days.

village idiot (dog latin), Friday, 29 October 2010 13:01 (fifteen years ago)

I'm into this but not as much as I feel I should be. Maybe I need to hear a better quality version. Still love Kingdom and the Deadboy remix of Drake's "Fireworks" if that restores my uk chillwave cred.

<3 that mix so hard.

hands-down the best UK dance track of the year – take it from me, i live in minneapolis and listen to neil young!

underrated joe perry project albums i have sold (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 29 October 2010 17:34 (fifteen years ago)

i am loving this track - i wasn't overly fond of "IRL" at the time but i should maybe reinvestigate

dinah shore, jr. (donna rouge), Friday, 29 October 2010 17:41 (fifteen years ago)

IRL is just horrible. Like having some massive lairy drunk smash into you on the dancefloor. And it's on every fucking set these guys put out.

Matt DC, Friday, 29 October 2010 21:41 (fifteen years ago)

Sometimes I wonder if all music in this vein was kinda ruined for me forever by the brilliance of Low Deep's "Straight Flush" - like I've actually burned out that part of my music retinas by staring at the sun too intently.

Night Slugs feature @ http://www.residentadvisor.net/feature.aspx?1254
Comes with a 47 minute mix.
Thanks Lex, WUT revisits me multiple times a day since the start of this thread :)

^^ jam city's "arpjam" on that mix is fucking insanely good, really hope that gets a release this year

Kingdom slapping the vocals from Ciara's "Ride" on top of "Every Time" was one of many highlights when I saw him a few nights ago.

big jeans (lou), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:05 (fifteen years ago)

oh SHIT i'd've lost my shit at that

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:09 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah, he kind of had my jaw on the floor the whole time. :) Sorry to veer off-topic, but I have really treasured Kingdom's tracks, mixes and remixes this year. His monthly event here has been the source of many euphoric nights. Can't remember the last time I was inspired to go out so much.

big jeans (lou), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 00:43 (fifteen years ago)

i get the fbook invites to those and EVERY TIME wish i could go. and i've never managed to catch kingdom over here either - once this year i got to interview him but on the night had a deadline crisis; the time after that i was in spain; and he's coming over in a couple of weeks, when i...will be in miami

AARGH

Oh good, the EP is on Spotify. INSTANT LOVE for "Wut" and "Showstoppa", WOW!

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 10:36 (fifteen years ago)

mike (and indeed everyone) should check out kingdom's stuff (esp "mind reader", "that mystic" and "fogs") - not exactly similar but approaching cut-up r&b vox/heavy bass from a different angle

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 10:41 (fifteen years ago)

actually i'll just bump his thread - Kingdom ft. Shyvonne - Mind Reader

lex lex lex lex lex on the track BOW (lex pretend), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 10:42 (fifteen years ago)

I know "Mind Reader" quite well - Lex, you tipped me to it a few months back. Great track. Will try the other two.

mike t-diva, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 12:42 (fifteen years ago)

single of the fucking year finally gets a release

single of the year? hm. i just heard it, and it is good. i can see where the processed vocals can be irritating/nervewracking after a while. tagged it to download later on emusic.

xpost whole Night Slugs catalogue is available on Spotify and that's so fucking sweet, just type label:"night slugs" in searchbox

Wonder what popular internet phrase Girl Unit will use for his next single?

Number None, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 14:17 (fifteen years ago)

LOL

Matt DC, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 14:23 (fifteen years ago)

Deserved that

Number None, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 14:28 (fifteen years ago)

dayo- I don't think that impulse is nearly as strong here as it is with, say, Trey Songz' "Bottoms Up" (Bottoms up, bottoms up/ stick it in your butt). :)

big jeans (lou), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 14:33 (fifteen years ago)

^^ jam city's "arpjam" on that mix is fucking insanely good, really hope that gets a release this year

Don't know whether it will be released on its own but at least it will be officially available on the first Night Slugs comp.

willem, Monday, 8 November 2010 21:55 (fifteen years ago)

i know lex loves them (not least as hes mates with them all) but can there just be a rolling nightslugs thread so there arent new ones started for these guys all the time?

titchy (titchyschneiderMk2), Wednesday, 10 November 2010 10:51 (fifteen years ago)

This is pretty much the only Night Slugs thread isn't it? Mind Reader wasn't even on Night Slugs.

Don't think there's really much doubt that Lex sincerely loves all this stuff, he's not just street teaming his friends for the sake of it.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 10 November 2010 11:48 (fifteen years ago)

i’ve been getting back into night slugs, they had a lot of good records!

i recently got a copy of “the courts” 12” single w/ the main attraktionz + jam city feature on the other side, and that song sounds, if anything, even better now

i’m still more into the nswl white labels and club constructions in general but here’s my current pox

ns009 jam city “magic drops”
ns010 bok bok “southside”
ns017 girl unit “hysterics” (credited as hysterics)
nscc001 l-vis 1990 “club constructions vol. 1”
nscc003 kw griff “bring in the katz”
nscc006 jam city “club constructions vol. 6”
nswl004 jam city refixes (let me bang, endgames)
nswl007 pearson sound edits (deep inside, rod lee)
nswl010 helix + flirta d “no hook no bs”
nswl011 jam city “the courts / the nite life”

the late great, Thursday, 20 July 2023 17:37 (two years ago)

i mean “the courts” sounds better. probably helps that there’s a lot more “experimental club” compatible techno out there (on labels like timedance, livity, hessle, etc) … the cloud rap track sounds worse, still good but i can understand why it didn’t really get released

one that passed under my radar but i thought was interesting is “p jam” from the white label series, sorta jungle and sorta grime remixes of nightwriters “let the music you” … the grime version is unsurprisingly a lot more credible

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NRIGg5-dhA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcZr8qQWqQo

but wtf jam city for finally releasing “final joust” free on twitter as a wav but not pressing any copies

"Ecstacy Refix" >>>>>

boxedjoy, Thursday, 20 July 2023 22:10 (two years ago)

yeah that’s the endgames one. i have to say i was probably more impressed w/ the original (when i finally looked it up) but he did a good job with it

the late great, Thursday, 20 July 2023 22:51 (two years ago)

apparently it’s called the “centurion mix” in some places and the “1983 12” mix” in others
