Just to remind ourselves, and maybe to add the ones we missed and/or never existed as well......

ILX Comp (Do Not Listen If You Hate Us) (2002)

the ILX compilation vol 2 (2004)

ILX Has a Bucket!!! (ILX Compilation Vol 3) (2007)

No ILX on the horizon (2009)

ILX Disco Inferno Covers Compilation 2010 (20??)

ILX Wire Covers Compilation 2010 (2010)

ILX Compilation v4: Tiny Music (2010)

Mark G, Friday, 28 January 2011 12:43 (nine years ago) link

I had a track prepared for the Tiny Music comp and I missed it!

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Friday, 28 January 2011 12:45 (nine years ago) link

yeah, I had half an idea for the U2 one, but it was way after the event (I didn't get to hear about it until late)

Mark G, Friday, 28 January 2011 13:00 (nine years ago) link

I would be interested in (listening to, possibly contributing to) a Tiny Music 2, should there be anyone else who missed it...

(started a track but had smoke come out of my computer, literally! and then it would not turn on again. I have a new one now which I have not even got round to putting any music software on yet)

cellular nekomata (a passing spacecadet), Friday, 28 January 2011 13:02 (nine years ago) link

So where can I find the Tiny Music comp?

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Friday, 28 January 2011 13:02 (nine years ago) link

iirc

How about the Disco Inferno and Wire albums?

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Friday, 28 January 2011 13:27 (nine years ago) link

the disco inferno one never happened, I don't think?

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 28 January 2011 13:31 (nine years ago) link

I imagine 'cuz the vast majority of even ILXors have never heard them

Tom A. (Tom B.) (Tom C.) (Tom D.), Friday, 28 January 2011 13:34 (nine years ago) link

a fair number of people volunteered to do tracks but then some (including me) dropped out and no one ever really worked to keep it going

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 28 January 2011 14:03 (nine years ago) link

Download links on the Wire covers thread are all dead, but the album can be downloaded a track at a time from here: http://official.fm/playlists/33504

Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Friday, 28 January 2011 14:04 (nine years ago) link

I did have ILXVols 1 to 3 and the u2 one hosted, but all my site content strangely disappeared one day and I didn't notice for 3 months.

Mark G, Friday, 28 January 2011 14:47 (nine years ago) link

Yeah the Disco Inferno one is temporarily on hold...but this year should change that, I suspect.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 28 January 2011 14:58 (nine years ago) link

ILX Christmas Compilation: Deck the Halls With Boughs of LOLly

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 21:07 (eight years ago) link

Didn't realise we'd never finished the DI one. I suspect everyone went "oh god how can I possibly cover these songs" and gave up lol.

One of these days I'll get over my lack of confidence and DO a track.

Occupy Kelly St (Trayce), Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:31 (eight years ago) link

I'm thinking about reviving the DI one in the new year...

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 13 October 2011 22:36 (eight years ago) link

Cool. I still wouldnt mind doing "fallen down the wire" (well, if I can ever work out the words, ha)

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 00:48 (three years ago) link

Noted. (I am said someone.) That said there should be updates/improvements to them, per the comments left on many of them.

(xp) That was a good one too.

Eats like Elvis, shits like De Niro (Tom D.), Tuesday, 24 January 2017 01:53 (three years ago) link

I only remember this because Jordan S pointed it out way back then, but our tracks on ILX Comp Volume 2 were switched around/mislabeled (his is 5:14 long, mine is 4:25).

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 02:42 (three years ago) link

I thought I recognised the lil' pic there.

It's funny, once in a while I put my name (or people I know) in certain websites (you know, you have as well). I wondered if someone with the same name as me had nicked in ahead and taken the "no-number" version.

For a second, I thought someone had. Then I clicked on the link, and found it was me!

Thanks! (rlly)

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 12:41 (three years ago) link

This is just reminding me of my sporadic IA about the fact that my discogs page is incomplete and I can't edit it. Bah. (But on the topic at hand, good work Ned.)

I never saw the cover for the ILX Next Day comp and EL - OH - EL, for reals.

So without joining some illegal piracy ring how do I get zips of all these sent to me so I can teach my kid what REAL MUSIC is?

Oh right I have Ned's email

nice work !
ILX has quite a back catalogue now !
I had totally forgotten some of my contributions.
Also, time flies...

I kind of wish we had a Bandcamp page for all of this, not necessarily to sell but to give a streaming location

yes and so i could delete the syro covers off of my soundcloud

i forgot that the lulu precovers comp had the added challenge that we also had to match the track times of the actual album, brilliant

na (NA), Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:15 (three years ago) link

I kind of wish we had a Bandcamp page for all of this, not necessarily to sell but to give a streaming location

or spotify (but I suppose they only have things that are on a label) !

i forgot that the lulu precovers comp had the added challenge that we also had to match the track times of the actual album, brilliant

yeah, I think that was the funniest to do due to that constraint (and the crazy length of most of the original tracks) !

AlXTC from Paris, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:21 (three years ago) link

The Lulu project is easily my favorite of them all, not that there weren't other great ones. But that was a perfect moment and a half.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:21 (three years ago) link

yeah, I think that was the funniest to do due to that constraint (and the crazy length of most of the original tracks) !

haha yeah; this is why my contribution to that is effectively two separate songs welded together that is a strong ripoff in build and structure of "Insomnia" by Faithless

(The caption: “fine dining.”) (DJP), Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:23 (three years ago) link

I did my Bowie one to that constraint, even though I know most people didn't.

My faves are Lulu and the Sciento_Ogy one. A classic year for ilx comps.

emil.y, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:30 (three years ago) link

For overall quality, I still think Vol3 "has a bucket" is a good starting place, but Lulu is .

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:46 (three years ago) link

Oh lol, I totally forgot about ENGLANDE.

emil.y, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:52 (three years ago) link

There should be an (online) ILX festival with all these : ILXapalooza !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 10:41 (three years ago) link

There was one, it was linked to Vol 3.

Mark G, Thursday, 26 January 2017 19:25 (three years ago) link

i think the idea was that we would make our own songs but our artist/song names had to be from that list

either that or pandemic-themed

idk

i am favouring a pandemic theme myself but you are all free to argue the toss

songs of our own imo

in whatever, but would be better were there an overarching concept to at least name the tracks

Wuhan!! Got You All in Check (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 15 March 2020 20:06 (six months ago) link

that concept, is COVID

I'm in, although the COVID theme may be a little tenuous as it'll probably be instrumental.
