two weeks pass...

i'm looking for the thread that was something like 'tell me about 10-yr-old self". my ilx searching ability is shit, can't find it.

JuliaA, Thursday, 11 June 2015 16:18 (eight years ago) link

What one piece of advice would you give your ten year old self?

Jeff, Thursday, 11 June 2015 16:20 (eight years ago) link

thanks, i found that. but the one i'm thinking of has longform descriptive posts rather than advice--there were lots of personal anecdotes, some lovely writing.

Some years back somebody (Noodle Vague? Jess?) posted a funny incoherent post about how baffled they were by the LOTR films, full of sputtering nonsense and lotsa ellipses, kinda like "wtf...trees walking?!...I mean...how come no shoes?...wait, who's that guy?...gah!..." etc. on and on for an extended run-on paragraph. Always wanted to find that post (and thread) again, thought it was in the "Why are movies so long?" thread but couldn't find it there.

Help, anybody?

was there a thread for photos of synth dudes (and synth dudettes) posing with their synthesizers? it might have been this - Synth Wizards - but I thought there was one that was purely a picture thread?

soref, Sunday, 21 June 2015 19:27 (eight years ago) link

photos in this kind of vein:

I don't think there ever was such a thread. maybe you can start one?

rallizes mcguire (unregistered), Sunday, 21 June 2015 19:55 (eight years ago) link

prog butts (the tumblr) has some great shots of progdudes and their butts, but it isn't exclusively devoted to synth wizards, and the ilx thread never really took off.

There was a photostrip thing which had captions, from "Dracula" Gary oldman, can't find it

one month passes...

1. there was a thread where people were recounting the worst things they'd ever done to another human being. most people posted lameshit like "I cheated on my girlfriend lol", but then someone posted a long gruesome story about how they nearly killed one of their childhood friends by placing an obstruction in front of their bike tire as they rode down a hill.

2. there was a thread where people were recounting their encounters with celebrities. someone claimed to have met Van Morrison in a bathroom, and the stench emanating from Van's stall was so bad that they basically concluded (and several other posters concurred) that Van's life was no longer worth living.

scarlett bohansson (unregistered), Saturday, 12 September 2015 03:17 (eight years ago) link

found #2! (but not #1):

I once sat in the next cubicle to Van Morrison as he grunted his way thru a really big shit - anyone whos insides smell that bad must be medically dead.

there was a thread where someone posted a great link by some science/tech blogger about why tech guys are so bad at politics or figuring out political solutions, since they try to act like there's some rational middleground between left and right positions ... I have no idea what the thread subject was (tech bros? libertarians? climate change?) and I can't remember the name of the blog.

ring a bell with anyone?
