I've gotten to know Hadrian a bit off-board and e-mailed him three or four weeks ago--said he's just generally not having a great year, but he hoped to be back eventually.

i'd hate to think he got chased off by the small coterie of haters who dumped on him pretty hard for a while because he refused to condemn French laws against religious garb in schools as virulently as they thought was required. their rhetoric got very personal and nasty.

Another person who last posted in March, funny how criticism of his racist posts was personal but Euler taking notes about a throwaway comment my husband made about not watching Eurovision in Israel the previous year and then trying to use it against me as a gotcha was cool and fine 🙃 If he had stopped posting after the shitshow that thread was, I wouldn’t pretend I felt sorry about it.

You will probably not be surprised to find out I wouldn't know how to killfile even if I wanted to but, yes, feeling like you have to killfile a dozen or so fellow forum users suggests it might not be the place for you.

i have only ever been tempted to killfile for one poster - not a poster who particularly annoyed me, they just posted frequently and in large amounts and i wasnt interested in reading their posts, but i never bothered my arse.

I liked Euler on ILM.

He was fine up until his Macronization.

he lived and taught in France. i thought that made his thoughts on such things valuable or at the very least tolerable.

Suggest you read the posts in question before saying that.

I think (though I'm not sure) I have read them. And if I did read them, I also think Euler remained "fine" throughout.
