I was born in 1955, in the middle of the boomer years, and came of age in the 70s. The media called us the “me generation”. They used that label because they thought we were spoiled, but I was sure it was just because we expressed a confidence they didn’t think we should feel. I knew I was gay at a very young age and that I was going to do everything in my power to escape my conservative rural community.

Dan S, Sunday, 19 February 2023 01:49 (one year ago) link

Man, growing up gay in a 1960s rural community must have been an epic struggle, respect.

"1980 but weirdly I'm 96 years old

― waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal)"

that's just queer time. personally, as a queer woman, i measure my age in terms of the lyrics to the boards of canada song "aquarius", which means i'm seventy-four this year. i'm looking forward to turning sixty-seven in a couple months.

"I was born in 1955, in the middle of the boomer years, and came of age in the 70s. The media called us the “me generation”. They used that label because they thought we were spoiled, but I was sure it was just because we expressed a confidence they didn’t think we should feel. ― Dan S"

i was just writing about the "me generation" on my blog the other day, my take is that wolfe was observing a genuine phenomenon but that part of being queer is being, you know, not like the others. i also think that calling narcissism a _generational_ phenomenon is overstating it a little. my mom is definitely a woman of her generation, but she's also her mother's daughter, you know?

There is highly embarrassing evidence of my teenage presence here dating back to '03 (e.g. my first post was to ask Momus to rate my livejournal) well over half a lifetime for me and I am so grateful that this place still exists and looks exactly the same, ilx is so good thank you to everyone involved

I am not multiple posters, but I was at school and in 3rd grade on November 22, 1963 and can recall a few bits and pieces of that day. Mostly being very uncertain what it all meant. I can recall even less about the Cuban Missile Crisis about a year before that, but some small scraps of those memories are still accessible.

I remember the 90s/early oughts dick sharing - when I first heard about Louis CK's #METOO moment, my first thought was 'shit, everyone of my skater buddies pulled their peckers out in front of girls at parties' but that of course ignores the power dynamic and overall creepiness of his behavior

aw, i didn't mean to make you feel unwelcome!

I've seen a bunch of 20 year old threads where the OP was saying 'I couldn't find a thread on The Microphones, what say ye ILM?' followed by an irate post from Ned along the lines of 'There's such a thing as the search function, asshole. Use it!' which is very funny because it seems so out of character.

I feel like there's the integrated Ned who walks among us, and that guy is like, a playable character and then there are the dualities of Ned with impossible XP, one who visits you in dreams and yells and another who sits in a lotus position surrounded by an orb of glowing light and imparts sage advice. And those two are the final bosses of ILX.

The field divisions are fastened with felicitations. (Deflatormouse), Friday, 24 February 2023 08:16 (one year ago) link

I was hoping this poll would allow me to pass along the moniker of 'oldest known ilxor', but until somebody steps up to claim one of those birth years before 1954 I guess I'm stuck. And considering the many disparaging comments about old people I've read here over the decades, this title doesn't feel much like a position of honor.
