It's the ILX All-Time Milm and Foovies (Film and Movies) Poll! -- Nominations Thread

Message Bookmarked
Bookmark Removed

As promised in Pretend you have a ballot for the 2022 edition of Sight & Sound's top 10 movies of all time list, it's time for the official firing up of nominations for ILX's all-time greatest film and movies poll!

NOMINATIONS SO FAR: https://pastebin.com/LwvpYQ1A (1,221 candidates already listed, after combining TSPDT's top 1,000 with the nominations collected in the 2022 S&S thread)

Still working out the exact number of votes everyone gets to put on their ballot. Leaning toward everyone having a strongly-weighted top 10 and then listing up to 90 others if they choose with much smaller weight. Open to debate in this thread still.

Aiming to start collecting ballots mid- to late-October.

So after 10, you can list as many--by which I mean as few--as you like? I was thinking of 30-50 in total.

For sure requiring the S&S top 10 from every participant; not sure if I'll require a minimum beyond that.

Seconded! If you're not aware, there's a 25 issue comic series that continues on right after the movie that's fun to read.

I'm torn on The Rock remake - hoping he really gets the humor of it, and undercuts the hero image if he's playing Jack. Given his Jumanji avatar character, he should be open to that. Won't replace the original in my heart, though.

Working to add the backlog of nominations to the Pastebin list, apologies for the delay.

There's no limit to the number of movies people can nominate, but would appreciate people nominating only movies they plan to vote for.

Well, that depends on the movies that are nominated.

See, what would do is make a shortlist of my fav movies from the entire list, rate them out of 100, then vote for the top (howevermany)

So, it's quite possible that some of my nominated movies may not get a vote from me.

This is going to be so hard.

One of my top 10 would've been an American film, and one that I know he hated. Was looking forward to talking about it.

Yeah, when he posted upthread that he might not contribute I wrote out a post that was basically "ah come on, it won't be a film poll without your snarking" and then didn't bother posting it. But I wish I had, because I meant it.

So, after spending time examining not just the list of movies Morbs gave five stars to on Letterboxed, but also his responses to the prior two "pretend you have a Sight & Sound ballot" threads, I've come up with a pretty good snapshot of what a Morbs ballot would have looked like. :(

I present these Morbs "nominations" here as a tribute, but also open it up to anyone who notices that I've missed one of his pet faves to redress the omission. (It's missing Fritz Lang and Akira Kurosawa and Robert Aldrich, who showed up in the top half of his directors ballot, so if anyone remembers him saying he had a favorite from any of those three, lemme know.)
