amateurist had a freakout after the '16 election, then briefly came back in early '17 to post on US politics/Trump threads before peacing out for good.

it was on the politics thread that i thought of them. someone said something cranky and i thought of amz. they could crank with the best of them.

I may have chased him off. I made a disparaging post about how he was prone to disappearing for stretches, showing back up and slagging the opinions of established ILXors by saying "I don't even know who you are." And I was like, well no shit, you would if you paid attention to anyone's posts but your own. So then he sent me an ILXmail that just says "You're an asshole," and never posted again.

Someone did that to me once in the wake of a long ago ILX scandal, I suppose it's a rite of passage

I think I wasn't paying too much attention to ILX at that stage so can not comment on their behaviour, but I v much enjoy amateurist on old movie threads and probably still parrot their takes sometimes w/o knowing

What happened with Josh In Chicago?

Amateurist was really funny because I can remember there was this period I was really downloading a lot of obscure arthouse films (through KG) and posting so much on it and all of a sudden he started commenting on that.

yeah, i just know that i found it a little acrimonious but just stated a fact at the end of it and haven’t seen him since.

there are times when i've seen ppl snipe at JiC when i've thought "why does he subject himself to this"

both times i left i definitely _flounced_

but neither time did it really have anything to do with ilx, i mean, really, i do have a life outside of ilx

i'm kinda glad i don't know what discord is. i mean i've heard of it but i have never looked at it. or twitch. or anything. i do finally go on instagram despite the fact that i don't own a phone. it seems phone-centric. tiktok i have only seen to look at my son's channel. which is awesome. but i have never looked at it otherwise. feels good to be blissfully ignorant sometimes. i just wish i had never gone on facebook.

I’m still don’t know if killfile is an actual thing or just an ilx expression. Like can I actually make particular posters disappear from my ilx experience? That would be super helpful

it is a real thing, but annoying on regular ILX desktop since you can't bookmark a killfiled post - the zing version is better and much easier

there's a former ilxor who used to have my current name. they took it a little personally when i picked this name. my understanding is that they were banned during one of my absences. i didn't get along with them, and to the extent that any particular poster is responsible for my leaving, their behavior was part of the reason for that particular absence. i got nothing against them personally.

i'm not aware of any other kates but i don't know most people's names here haha, i figure it's easier to refer to people by their usernames or display names. if someone's posting as "Karl Malone" i think of them as Karl Malone.

I was fortunate to know ex ILXor Admiral Lingbert IRL. He referred Mr. Jaq to a temp agency and would get a bonus if he signed on. It caused a mess when I assured Mr. Jaq the admiral's name was <actual first name> Lingbert. It was only that in my mind.
