Before I sign off for the evening I would like to reiterate that I believe that the one song we have been discussing is actually quite manageable but don’t want to jinx myself by going on about it too much since I myself will not be able to test this theory out right away or possibly for another solstice or two.

In the cold light of day slightly ruing the fact that I used up my one shot on something as easy if crowd pleasing as “Ring of Fire.” I know, I know you are all thinking, “Easy, you say? What about that foreshortened bar in the middle?”

Finally tried “You Got It” to get it out of my system. I had been there for an earlier musical performance but hung on as my friends left while the karaoke witching hour slowly approached. When it started I chased down the would-be kj who had overlooked me earlier whilst making his rounds so I was twentieth-something in the queue, after a lot of reggaeton I was unfamiliar with. This song, like many, has easy parts and hard parts. The regular part is not too hard to do, the only thing you’ve got to nail is “baby,” which I sort of did tolerably but wasn’t happy with. The really hard part is a bunch of high “alls” that I can’t really hit anyway, which was exacerbated by the especially off brand YouTube video the guy had chosen to accompany me. Those “alls” are especially hard to hit because they are like a vertical ascent, not like the top of a melody. Anyway maybe nobody cared about that part but me, especially since most were waiting to get back to the reggaeton anyway.

I think if I try another one by Roy Orbison it will be “Blue Bayou” or more likely his take on “Love Hurts.”

Or just do “Handle With Care” and sing all the parts in character.

No, it was a youtube video. But some are better than others at cuing you and filling up spaces in between vocals. Hoping you'll try it soon and let me know how it goes hitting that A for "all."

Just talked to the owner about his imminent karaoke kutbacks so it won’t be seven days a week. Which might actually work out fine for me since it will be more klearly koncentrated on nights that I can even think about staying up that late.

I did it. Mixed results.

My “Starman” was a little pitchy but “Thunder Road” was fine.

Might go for a Blecch Friday Special and do a third if the technical difficulties get resolved.

Third time was a charm.

Although I think it’s gonna be a long long time before I try that again.

For my third number I did as discussed on this thread, listened to some live recordings so I would have an option in my head if and when I was gonna miss a high note.

i still haven't done 'thunder road' but i'm worried that i will inadvertently air drum to the big fill after the last line, because you _have_ to do that

I just sat back down and waited for it to finish. Which was kind of nice, since a lot of tunes have some kind of two minute musical interlude at the back part and then you have to remember to sing something again at the very end.

Ha! This time it waved, but I often see "sway" as well. I always heard the first one so I prefer it. I guess "sways" rhymes better with "plays" but maybe it's too on the nose so I still prefer the other.

Here's my one unsolicited amateur tip: that tune has a metric ton of lyrics, so best to familiarize yourself with all of them to the extent possible so you have some ability to know the nuances of each little part otherwise it will be the klassic karoake reading a list of words performance and you won't get the ebb and flow.

my years long preparation is starting to backfire, because now i'm listening to the early version of thunder road when it was called "wings for wheels", and entire verses are switched out for other lines that have very similar themes.

i suppose i can get around this by loudly announcing "i'm doing the WINGS FOR WHEELS version of thunder road tonight, friends and strangers!" before i sing it. the crowd will love that

So the owner originally told me that he was stopping the midnight karaoke on weekends meaning Friday, Saturday and Sunday to let the live music go later while putting in an open mic on Tuesday, but yesterday he said he was going to extend the open mic to more nights so going forward karaoke will only be on Thursday. Which is fine with me since that is the best night for me anyway. Just kind of glad that I did my little karaoke krash kourse while I could.

Perhaps, at the risk of further embarassment, I will share some of the fruits of Dr. Redd's Experiment in the near future.

Believe they will be open on Thanksgiving evening.

Only no one can sing anything but Xmas songs for the next month.

all Bee Gees is fun actually. like "Jive Talking", "Staying Alive","Nights on Broadway", "I Started a Joke", so many styles you can play w/. maybe the best karaoke song to sing really.
